I disagree with Yahtzee in a lot of areas, namely in his hate for great titles that don't try many new things and his love for ridiculous wacky titles that try many new things. Many times he has spoken of his love for ridiculous things like A French chef shooting veloceraptors out of a gun or the wackiness (stupidness) of Saints Row 2.

I realize now that I disagree with him a lot because I actually find his tastes in gaming quite often very stupid. The idea of a French chef shooting veloceraptors out of a gun doesn't appeal to me at all. To clarify I'm not saying Yahtzee is a stupid person, I'm saying I sometimes find his tastes in games stupid. He seams to me like the dumb guy in the movies that laughs loudly when someone trips on a banana peel, he just happens to be very intelligent.

EDIT: To clarify I'm not calling his opinions stupid, I'm saying some of them don't appeal to ME. They seem silly to me. I want to see your opinions.

I think he tries to be different, thats his style. I do disagree with on some games maybe that he didn't like that i really enjoyed but sometimes i do agree with him.

Dont be ridiculous. His idea about a game about a french chef who rides a stick insect and wields a gun that shoots veloceraptors was just hyperbole. A gross exaggeration of his wish to see more variety in games. If you were to take everything Yahtzee says literally than you may well think him insane (and even if you didnt take it literally you may well arrive at that conclusion).

Well if you judge by that then most people have 'stupid' tastes. Though I found Saints Row 2 to be superior to GTA 4 so I agree with him a lot.

Wait, let me see if I got this straight: You think the man has bad taste because of one joke he made? A hyperbole, at that.

You're blowing it out of proportion, by accident or on purpose. Should I now start a new thread titled "Do you think tooktook lacks a sense of humor?"? Of course I shouldn't.

And I'm sure your fashion sense is thoroughly dated...

In some respects, I think you are right, but not for the reasons you listed. Namely, he doesn't seem to like strategy games or (j)RPGs much, and he's hated a few good games like the DS Zelda and the Witcher. He is not required to like all games, but I think he should have a slightly more diverse taste in them before he starts bashing.

There are some games that I don't think a reviewer needs the prerequisite of liking though: sports and racing games. Why? I, at least, find them all to be the same, and the reviewing them for their subtle differences is just pointless.

Honestly if someone finds Gta4 to be more fun than Sr2 then they are a mindless drone
That comment is even more disrespectful of peoples opinions than the OP's. I haven't played sr2 but my friends and I found the many things you can do in GTA 4 to be very entertaining.

Anyway I personally wouldn't take Yahtzee personally all he's trying to do is be funny. That's it.

Edit: Beaten to dissing the disser.

I R HAL 9000. Destroy!

So you disagree with him, doesn't mean what he likes is stupid.

Do you think anyone should give a rat's ass about what Yahtzee thinks?

I know he doesn't care about what we think of him.

Yahtzee, Yahtzee, Yahtzee.. The Escapist has more to offer than just that, people.

I love his reviews. Whether I agree with his opinions or not, he never fails to convey them in a humorous or OTT way. I wouldn't call anyone's opinions stupid (unless they really are stupid!) because they are THEIR opinions. As Yahtzee himself said... I forget. But it was something about if you needed a reviewer to agree with you before you liked a game then maybe you don't like the game as much as you think you do. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Anyway, opinions are like bellybuttons. Everyone's got one, but they aren't all the same.

Personally, I don't think anyone's tastes are "stupid" anymore than liking vanilla over chocolate is "stupid".
Surely you have to have a scoop of each because chocolate on its own is too strong and vanilla by itself is too bland.

The only ice-cream flavor that is okay by itself is Strawberry Cheesecake.
