I don't like the ESRB

I'm British and 18 (19 on the 14th of this month)were classified by the BBFC which the highest rating is 18 so well... I couldn't give a shit... they could place all games at 18 for all I care, it really doesn't stop many kids playing I mean I like many others was playing Vice city at about 14.

OT: first of all its M for mature because of online interactions. I see lots of messed up guys in halo... second these ratings protect our kids from nightmares... I saw a documentary about korean gaming once and this one kid (about 14-15) cant sleep on his own because he thinks someone will sneak up on him and blow his head off... I feel kinda sorry for the guy... Third M for mature should be for mature people not necessarily 18 or up. I see lots of 19 year olds scream and ***** about losing like five year olds but I also see mature 14-15 year olds as well...

Idea behind it is fine, rating boards are just a little too strict.
I have to say I was lucky that my parents knew I "could handle it" because they always just bought stuff for me, I'm 20 now so I do not have those problems any more though.

I actually like the ESRB. Sure, they overreact a tad (Like with the Manhunt 2 incident) but they ae commonly the first line of defense against politicians who try to put a smack down on M rated titles, or games in general.

They are here to help.

Oh, and just for the record, Halo has no shred of controversy that I can see.
The ESRB rated it M for the same reason games like Call of Duty 4 recieved an M rating.

I was playiin M games at 13. So I never had a problem. PLayed Fallout 1 and 2 at 14/15.

You know waht it was like before the ESRB? Nintendo edited out the word "Blood" From a Final Fantasy game. So be happy we have it.

Also, relax dude, there are plenty of games not rated M that are worthy of your time, Like RPG's or Adventure games. Or Puzzles. Or strategy Games.

I do think that the ratings system is a bit messed up. Like I would let a kid play Team Fortress 2 all he wants and it's rated M. I would never even think about letting a kid play Fatal Frame because he would be up all night crying and that was rated T. I think that the ratings board should be a little more specific when it comes to games.

Obviously you are very young and judging by your grammar and your examples, you are not mature enough to play these games in the first place.

The ESRB is not perfect, but it's a necessary evil. Think about it: this VOLUNTARY organization decides to stop, then the government will step in. Do we really want Hillary Clinton rating our games?

The I ask of you: Do you really want a voluntary board with no oversight rating your games and movies?

I am firmly against censorship on all levels and would much rather see the government set up a board to review media than independent groups like the ESRB or MPAA. They are FAR worse than the government.

I don't exactly like Esrb, but in the way it's not exactly saying - YOU NEED TO BE EIGHTEEN - it's more of a suggestion, I guess I'll not make any sense unless I tell you a story! (opens up book)

Once in the province I lived in stickers were put on games, instead of it having the annoying ESRB {T) or (M) It had this far more sinister thing -

"NO ONE UNDER EIGHTEEN" or something of that...trash.

SO, basically, the stickers implied I HAD to be eighteen. Meanwhile ESRB implied the age was simply suggested, I could still rent or buy a game without a parent back with ESRB. Due to that stupid sticker though I had to actually BRING MY PARENTS, neither of them liked walking, so it was pretty unlikely I'd rent or buy a game for awhile, since I couldn't get it my self. I couldn't spend my own money on what I wanted, and why? Just because I was ONE year younger then the enforced age.

It's especially ironic, since from what I know hunting is definitely not illegal.

Apparently It's all right to kill an animal just for fun, but it's not all right to kill Pixilized people? The laws get only get stupider when it bumps up to an EIGHTEEN just because it shows a naked person, especially since most of us have sex before we're eighteen.


Luckily that dark time is passed for me, and at last I can buy games without worrying.
But, hey, I'm not just gonna stop here.

If the government thinks they should get in the way of what I should and should not purchase then I think they should impose some rules on them selves as well, just to be fair. A few examples are -

If a game is banned due to it's violence, regardless of the artistic expression or story behind it then the one responsible for the ban should not be allowed to fish, hunt, or even eat meat. (Fishing banned because it involves impaling, hunting because it involves a gun, and meat because it has gore in explicit detail.)

If a game is banned due to it's has sexual material, then they should be forced to wear a chastity belt, if they are caught glancing at any pornographic materials then they are to be castrated.

OH, and if a game has swearing, then I just guess we'll have to cut their tongue off, because I know for sure those politicians have dirty mouths.

I was playing mature games since I was just a child and I never hurt or tormented anyone, it was always the other way around, people hurting me. Even as a child I knew that a game was just a game, apparently those bullies that beat me up daily never even played a game, so the problem isn't about what age group plays the game, it's the person that plays it.

In the end, if nine year old is a moron then, he'll still be a moron when he grows up, and games will have little to no result in that.

I don't think Halo rated M has anything to do with Cortana's nudity. More the fact that you kill people. All the time. And the swears in Halo are barely noticeable.

What kind of society are we living in where a game that contains a minimum of sexuality or swears gets the same age restriction as a game where you kill tons of people?
