My other computer cost me about $600 back when I built it around 5 years ago.
It STILL runs each and every single game to date at high-ish settings.
Even Crysis 2.
just askin, how does one set crysis 2 graphics to "high-ish" when there are only three options?

My view is if there was a definitively btter platform everyone would use that as it stand it just comes down to perosonal preference, although I here PC didn't get to play RDR the best game of last year :p

That and the fact that consoles are sold at a loss for a couple of years, so they're cheaper over-all for the consumer.
Yeah but you pay that back with every new game you buy (which is why console manufacturers REALLY hate the used game market).

So yes, PC's are better than consoles. They can do everything consoles can and even more. Anyone who doesn't realize that is in denial.
Well consoles do have one advantage, any game made for the current gen will work on them until the next gen... while on PC sometimes the devs screw over people with good PC's by making their games not work on 2-3 year old video cards because a new shader model they don't have is a min requirement.
And without those developers that are "screwing people over" we'd still be playing Doom or Pac-Man on arcade machines. It's call progress and PC gamers look forward to it. There is nothing a PC enthusiast loves more than buying a new graphics card and seeing for the first time how it will perform.

I like PC because of controls, complex games like Total War series etc. and because on PC I can play games that came out 20 years ago. I don't have to plug in some old console to an old TV. I have everything in one package. And I can also use a console controller if I want. So yes, PC's are better than consoles. They can do everything consoles can and even more. Anyone who doesn't realize that is in denial.

And people need to stop with this "PC is dying" bullshit. How many consoles did this world go through, yet the PC still remains? After this generation of consoles die, PC will be there. PC is always there and with backwards comparability :D
Yeh to bad consoles have better exclusives, seriously the it is just personal preference anyone who doesn't realise that is in denial. TBH I use consoles because its easier to relax while playing and PCs have an accessability problem as a whole

Plus the graphics on my PS3 improve anyway, the graphics aren't still the same as they where when it came out, they're much better in fact (have you seen killzone 3?) and I didn't have to go out and buy a graphics card for it.

(...) Sephael, did you steal that or buy it cheap from the black market or something? If I'd spent that kind of money on an HP laptop 5 years ago it would have struggled with medium settings on contemporary titles even out of the box. These days? No chance. Maybe you're just playing old games?
For the record I spent $1000+ on one of their convertible tablets (which probably has about $600 of non-tablet/shrinky-dink computing power in it) at about the same time as you, got a damn good deal on it to boot, and the best I can really expect is maybe 20fps at fairly low settings in Live For Speed or a similar level title. Show it something like Crysis and it would probably commit suicide. I've tried a couple newer ones in between and they fall down to single figure fps on lowest settings at some points. The physics engines are what murder it, more than the actual graphic complexity. Mobile CPUs (& integrated GPUs... you saying you got one with a seperate chipset at that price?) of that vintage just aren't up to it. However in everyday computing use it's perfectly fine still, it's no slouch, unlike some cheaper ones owned by my cousins which have come and gone twice in the same time period (Celerons and Semprons and other slices of faecal matter masquerading as CPUs oh my).
I bought it used (1/2 months old) for around 3/4th of the original price. The key to using "medium" settings is to compromise.
I use lower resolution than my native, i usually turn off the shadows or keep them at minimum and turn off AA, as these are the most FPS-hogging settings for me.

Other than that, anything runs fine, e.g. Bulletstorm and Mass Effect 2 on medium settings.
For the reference, I've got a dual core 2.0, 256mb nvidia quadro nvs 320m but running on 8700GT drivers, as it's mostly the same card, and a crappy 5400 HDD (I suppose a 7200rpm would make it much snappier).

"better is a term i would'nt throw around lightly" as it's pretty much relative
for instance, I wouldn't trade the RTS genre for all the halo's and uncharted's in the world.

What about the heavy rain or the Red Dead redemptions (No PC Port) or the Littlebigplanets or the Modnations, theres much more variety in the console exclusives

You have to upgrade it every year instead of every 5-6 years.

...that's about it.
I haven't upgraded mine for 3½ years, I had to replace one component because it broke down. And the fact that you can upgrade doesn't mean you have to upgrade. I can still run every game I choose on my PC.

I think the bonus of PC is the fact that If component breaks down I can just open the lid replace and have it up and running under 30 minutes. With console I need to send it maintenance where it will spend months.

I play PC because I can not play with console - well I can but it is hard and painful -, because of my right hands neurological condition.

Indeed he can.

... and then he can start dreaming of The Witcher, STALKER, the Total War series, Civilization V, and ARMA II just to name a few of my fave PC exclusives.

I like it because you can upgrade a PC. So I can add and change different parts of it to make it better on almost any budget.

Soo... RTS', bland shooters and a generic RPG? wow christmas has come early! I'll just be sitting playing the thousands of creative and amazing games people have made on LBP then maybe play some Red dead multiplayer, maybe some god of war, then when my friends come round we'll play splitscreen (Remember that?) on modnation racers

Mods. Edit the game to your (or someone else's) liking.

Fallout 3: Want to play as a Terminator? Turn laser weapons into lightning guns? Add thrity-foot tall geckos? Spawn with all the weapons in the game? You can do that.

Do ya fellas realise that the OP just trolled you all?

But as a (mainly) console gamer, I think I should apologise for the OP. I don't think there is a better platform, merely a individually preferred platform. While I personally wouldn't mind playing stuff like The Witcher, Stalker and ARMA II - I just have to accept the fact that my '360 just isn't up to snuff with a good PC.

If you like the better processing power coupled with fantastic and imaginative modding scene which go with PCs - power to you.

If you like the convienience and DRM-free games which go with console games - power to you, also.

Have you ever played any of those games? If no, then how in the name of flying goats would you know if they were bland or generic?
