So it was, in fact, "changed for a larf" as I said and not for political correctness reasons by those infernal minorities who we keep being informed are very sensitive to such things?Flames66 said:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4782856.stmmr_rubino said:I just know if I Google this, I'm going to get a circle-jerk at best, so do you have any articles or anything like that you got the Humpty Dumpty thing from?
Again, this sounds like "One nursery school in West East Cheshireford, New South Nothing changed the rhyme around as a teaching tool for a larf one day" becoming "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS CENSORSHIP RUNNING THE WORLD ASTRIDE!!!"
There is the original event from several years ago. It now seems to have been widely adopted in this country with children I have worked with from different schools all over the city looking very confused when a black sheep is sung about and saying that they were taught about a sheep with the full visible light spectrum.
There are reports that the words were changed in the Oxfordshire nurseries in order to increase the children's vocabularies and I don't claim to know the original reasons behind it.
Sweet Jesus man, read what you post.Trezu said:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loony_leftDRobert said:You are plainly making things up. The lyrics have not be changed.
And how would they be changed? Is there a "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep Act 2011 (Cth)" out there? The "Political Correctness Regulations 2011 (Cth)" introduced by the honourable Peter Garrett mp? Is there now a part of the school curriculum that states how nursery rhymes are to be sung? As for people being sued for it, I say name them.
Seriously, all legislation, case law, and school curriculums are available on the internet these days. Go search for the evidence that proves that you are neither a troll nor a deluded individual sparring a strawman.
This is a challenge to everybody. Find a primary source backing up this claim (news websites don't count, I want a piece of legislation, regulation, case, school curriculum, something like that). Until such evidence has been found, please be quiet.

i told u i wasnt making things up
it was a huge thing people actually still believe that u have to say rainbow sheep
i dont make stuff up. I highly doubt i cud find a Document regarding this i did find a newspaper article
but they all seem to dance around the point
some places you CAN say black sheep others you can'y simple as that
I heard another iteration, of the same rhyme, that goes "bah bah wooly sheep". I had to bite my tongue, as I almost felt obliged to point out the inherent pointlessness in asking a wooly[i/] sheep if it had any wool.Trezu said:people use to consider it Racist to say 'Black Sheep'Magenera said:What the hell does bah bah black sheep has to do with racism?
Its Rainbow Sheep now

I think that, while political correctness might have noble intentions (ie, get everyone together in one caring community of tolerance), it serves to do the complete opposite, as it exasperates the differences between us and drives us farther apart.Trezu said:Today i was watching the news [which is rare] anyway there was this report on this portrait of Matt Moran.

anyway at the end of the Report on Television the news reader had to say 'This wasnt made to offend Vegetarians' that was the gist of it, ive been looking for the report for a while. ANYWAY i really hate that, i understand that they have to clarify but they shouldn't have too. Is everyone so paranoid that if we all have to say nothing mean about a Minority otherwise get sued By the Political Correctness people.
Its the Same with 'Bah Bah Black Sheep' if i said this in a classroom im a Racist.
[Just to clarify im not trying to be offensive or rude. Its just a Observation.]
The Goody two shoes just need to bloody get over them selves.

No doubt because you forgot to mention six or seven different historical philosophers, along with seven or eight different economists followed by a final paragraph that nobody understands but pretends is Diamond-quality stuff.gamezombieghgh said:It's B English, what makes you say that?mr_rubino said:You have a very laid-back teacher, I'd wager? You probably shouldn't be listening to this guy. He'll get you an F and convince you it's a PC conspiracy. You know all that "fact" and "source" and "proving that any of this stuff really happened" stuff I mentioned? I would gather he's no fan of it. (EDIT: In fact, he seems to be offended by the idea of making concrete statements and identifying where they came from at all. Look at him turn up his nose at the idea of quoting philosophers in a bloody speech about sociology.)FarleShadow said:No doubt because you forgot to mention six or seven different historical philosophers, along with seven or eight different economists followed by a final paragraph that nobody understands but pretends is Diamond-quality stuff.gamezombieghgh said:It's B English, what makes you say that?mr_rubino said:You have a very laid-back teacher, I'd wager? Essentially, if you haven't take class 'Pretending to be smart by reading other people's thoughts 101', you aren't worthy of making a comment on anything.
My problem is not with arguments that say 'Study X shows that Response Y is effective against problem Z', my problem lies with the people who argue that if you haven't read Sociology book X, then you aren't worthy of commenting on any issue in that field.mr_rubino said:You probably shouldn't be listening to this guy. Essentially, I hate the elitism that some pretend sociologist take away from the study of sociology. Which is apparently more widespread than I'd previously considered.
Just trying to point out that line of reasoning doesn't work in an assignment you might get a grade for, as most teachers prefer a few well-researched arguments over throwing out as many shallow points as possible. But I notice this a lot with those who identify themselves as anti-PC: Only what they think matters. Everyone else is just trying to silence them. The world encourages this. The Escapist certainly does.gamezombieghgh said:I got merit. But now, I feel... Dam, it's just your opinion means so much to me because you're an English teacher, and... Dammr_rubino said:Oh. You crammed as many anecdotes into your speech as you possibly could with as few actual sources as you were able to, stating them all as facts while still being as vague as possible as to where all these intrusions were happening. You exaggerated everything you could. You didn't go into any actual detail about any of your examples.
