I want to hear your opinion on "The Monomyth" AKA "The Hero of The Thousand Faces".

Dont you find DISTURBING that ALL people can only relate to the heroes that follow that system /cliche of storytelling for almost 2000+ years?

I just don't start threads anymore anyway. I have horrible luck when it comes to relevant topics.

And betting. I also have horrible luck on that too. My last three football (Soccer) bets for example.
#1 - Cheltenham vs. Torquay. I betted Torquay to win. Cheltenham won.
#2 - England vs. Ukraine. I actually betted twice on England. One to draw and to lose. England won.
#3 - Chelsea vs. Manchester City. I betted Chelsea to win. You can bloody guess who won that match...

That'll do. Someone please suggest me some easy rocking songs to learn on guitar that aren't complete balls.
Depends what kind of music you like. Most Johnny Cash songs are really easy and fun to play.
Most green day songs are just power chords.

I'd like to talk about this plastic freak:

If you watch enough MovieBob, you've probably seen this freak. It's become slightly famous/imfamous in Transformer fan circles, due to how insane it is.

It probably won's surprise you to learn that this is ACTUALLY a Chinese knockoff, and not an original toy. But I bet you don't know what the original is. I do.

It's actually called Loco Squad. Funnily enough, the company that makes it is notorious for making knockoffs themselves, but this is actually an original mold.

I've always wanted to talk about one of my favorite bands, "My Chemical Romance", but have always being a little afraid, given their unfair "emo" lable
label.

First - I like MCR too, not as much as I did back in the day, but still.

Second - It's not an unfair label. MCR can whinge as much as they want about how they don't want to be labelled as emo, but in order for that to happen they'd have to stop making emo music (they are getting there, to be fair), and stop whinging about how they don't want to be called emo.

As for the OPs intent on the thread: I like camping. In the UK 'wild' camping as its called (as opposed to going to a camp site, which isn't really camping in my opinion), is getting more and more difficult as the popularity of the countryside increases. It's a shame really, but I did just buy a new tent. It's a Vango Chinook 300, if it survives this winter (I'm going to spend a few nights out on the Moors and I'm planning to head into the Highlands for a week in December) then it's going to come to Iceland with me next February.

I've recently developed an addiction to 'Greek', the been-off-the-air-a-while-now drama/comedy (dromedy?) about the Greek system in US universities. No one ever wants to talk about that, because apparently no one else watched it while it was on air.

Kelsey Freakin' Grammer's daughter is the main protagonist!
I watched it back in the day, but then after about 8 episodes, it struck me how not like college at all it was and how preposterous it was that I was watching it while actually in college. Also it wasn't that good. Not as good as Switched at Birth or as hilariously bad as Secret Life of the American Teenager. I might watch too much ABC Family

I do wish we talked about more TV than My Little Pony, Doctor Who, and any bullshit with Nathan Fillion in it. Or how British people have a monopoly on comedy (as told by British people).

Also, dramedy is pretty much an official genre these days.

I'm consistently disappointed with dragon games.
The last game featuring dragons that I was pleased with was Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

Dragon Age, despite it's name has painfully few dragons in it, I think there were only three worth mentioning in Origins
(The mountain dragon, Flemeth and the arch demon) Two of those aren't even dragons...

Skyrim has Wyverns, which fit the bill, but you're killing them and I would much rather control one or tame one.

Err has anyone on here had been watching that cartoon show Gravity Fall? I'm quite suprise how good it is coming from the Disney channel. I guess it show they can make something good once in a while that isn't some live action teen show.

Do you watch Archer? If so, that's something I can talk about, least of all, Quote a bunch. I don't watch much of any of those things (I saw Firefly and Serenity, but it's not ingrained into my life).

Playing the piano is a huge thing for me but whenever I talk about it I get either blank stares or "can you play *insert not very good pop song here*?"
Want to talk piano? I'm trying to teach myself how to play now, but I can't get my left hand (not dirty) to work with the keyboard (not dirty) because I don't know how to use it, with exercises or otherwise (not dirty).

I taught myself an Electric Light Orchestra Vocals part to "Shangri-La", which is only vocals, not the complexities, and I having been trying to teach myself how to read sheet music so I can play "Smiles and Tears" from Earthbound. Now if I can teach myself while not crying (No crying till the end and all that). What do you know how to play, anything classical, did you take lessons or learn by ear? Could you recommend me some exercises to teach me how to play some with my left hand/Both my hands?

I have a thing for anything Kelsey Grammar related, but his daughter? I'm going to see if I can Netflix this.

OT: I'd love to have a conversation with somebody following these topics:

Metal Gear Solid and its sequels, and how the 2nd & 3rd are significantly better than the first, personally.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (The Englund Years, not the shite remake) and specifically, someone who likes Elm Street 2. That person would be interesting to talk to.
The Electric Light Orchestra and your favorite songs by them (You know, beyond Mr. Blue Sky).
Fritz Lang's Metropolis (Just the movie, nobody talks about it, but I always see Citizen Kane plastered everywhere, also, Why no love for The Seventh Seal?)
The Idea that Good and Evil do not exist and are merely placeholders for Normal people and Dickheads (read: people who do bad things "just because" doesn't constitute evil, in my opinion)
Psychology in Cinema (Rather, reading psychology into movies where it probably doesn't belong)
Exercise tips
Earthbound, and legal ways of Getting Earthbound 2/Mother 3 so I can finally play it.
Movies and games that could have been better if YOU were given the ability to write them.
EDIT: The AV Club. I don't know if that's Heresy or not (if they are competitors during webbys or something), but does anybody read AV Club, or even the Comment section? Stuff's funny when you catch the joke, and the jokes are almost very easy to catch.

Call me crazy, I might be wrong here. Maybe I'm just assuming. Or maybe even having weird illusions. Or seeing things. Maybe you're not even here...

*ahem*

Anyway, is your post by any chance a reference to a cetrain...text booky...individual of the musically academicy kind?

OT: Total War. Ever since I got it, it's been almost always all I've wanted to talk about. Sadly, the only friend who plays it plays Empire: Total War, and I'm playing Rome and Medieval II.

Stuff I know how to play consists of: 100 Years by Five for Fighting, 1000 Miles by Vanessa Carlton, Rush by Ferras, Anna Rose by Vienna Tang and jazz... a whole lot of jazz. Mostly improv but you get the idea. I haven't tried learning any classical music since I was taking lessons a looong time ago.

I took lessons from kindergarten until 5th grade and then I stopped. I'm also not very good at learning by ear but that's mostly due to laziness. As for exercises, arpeggio's are good for stretching your hands and even just running up and down scales with both hands is really useful.

One other tip that I found useful was pretending I had a rock on my left hand and a feather on my right. It kept my left hand stationary so it only moved for chords while my right hand ran around and did it's thing.

I want to talk about the stupid idiots I play with online.

I mean there's this one guy who I recently started playing Dead Island with who was fun to play with at first. Then I caught up to his sort of level, and he began winding me right up. He did this by standing in doorways, CONSTANTLY talking, telling me all these builds (Which are crap, you don't take the Exp skill!), constantly telling me my build is bad then going "WOW!" when I KO Thugs. The thing that really annoyed me was that he started handing in my quests for me, meaning I was missing story line moments, missing collectables. Just made me angry, cause he was ruining any story the game had for me.

I'm still playing with this idiot too, though I don't know for how much longer.

/Rant Over.

Nah, if anything biologists are even lazier... (says a chemist and biologist... but I'm not a biochemist... I refuse to be labelled a biochemist!)

Though having said that... 'codemanes' sounds like an awesome thing to have! =P

By all means go ahead, I'd probably join you. Though 'was', perhaps...?

Unfortunately, I'm still playing Napoleon, as well as a modded Rome on the side, otherwise this would joyfully become a TW 'I so kicked the enemy's ass harder than you did' thread given that...

I will talk about Medieval II until the elephants come home, I adore that game. It was my first proper PC game.
OP wants in as well...

Either of you know any decent mods for Medieval 2?

Christ, I haven't played a Total War game in years. Kinda miss them.

I'm trying to figure out this system of time-travel I'm implementing in something I'm writing but don't feel smart enough to actually discuss it.

I would like to discuss my upstairs neighbor. Why does he move furniture every day and sound like he's body slamming it on the floor and walk like he's a reincarnated Godzilla in human form? My current theory is he's moving bodies, so I've named him Stompy Dahmer. Oh Stompy... what are you DOING up there?!

Think that's strange? My housemate has covered his bedroom door and windows in bubblewrap. I asked him why, and he said he did it to improve noise insulation.
I'm in the bedroom below him and I can hear him snoring almost every night.
