You are not. And by the love of whatever god you might believe in, do not ever let go of that talent. Hold it tight, nurture it. You might just be able to do something productive with it. Like writing. Drawing. And its fun.

I still from time to time just randomly am able to dream up a story and will spend hours just explaining important backstory of the world to myself and the heroes in it and everything. And I'm starting to worry myself that I'm the only person that does this.
Every night before I fall asleep I usually guide a conscious dream for about 30 minutes or so. It's become second nature to me and I love it so much that I want to write it into a book. It's so epic and large though (seeming as I've been thinking about the story, characters, plot, etc for over a decade) that it would have to be several volumes.

No you are not alone. I have been doing this since I was in primary school. I'm 23 now. I honestly thought I was the only one too but it's one of those things that you just don't tell anyone about and so assume no one ever does it. I really appreciate this thread actually, I can really relate to it. Well done.

My idea was based on this old old video-game:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/gender-wars
Basically there's a war going on with a Romeo and Juliet sort of love story going on. Meanwhile soldiers are tearing each other to shit with technology and X-men like mutant powers. Meanwhile civilians (who lived in a post-apocalyptic setting surrounded by deserts) are caught in the cross-fire getting picked up by patrols and turned into converts for either side. Then aliens invade and enslave the human race. Then the main hero (after many years of enslavement) uses their wit, technology, and powers to completely turn the tables on the extremely advanced species and save the human race...

It only needs pirates, ninjas, and zombies and then it would have everything. Lol!

I do that all the time (without the acting part though) and I tried at a point to stop with it but then after starting to play WoW things got "worse" again. I am now 29yo and I find myself imagining that I am a hero of azeroth using my powers to kick some evil asses.

Yea... I often imagine myself as some character in some setting. Usually when I'm at work and am bored as hell :p

Oh wow! Thanks for the responses everybody! I'll go through and answer everybody's questions/Comments at a later time since I don't want to be a quadroupuel posting douche bag, now onto your 3:
1. Usually it depends, on wether or not the main protaganist/Antagonist is "Evil" or not. I do either, usually I'm one of the characters, I've gotten quite good at just filling in plot points on the fly instead of ruining the story for myself.
2. Never been a girl, dunno why now that I think about it.
3. I've had literally hundreds, some finish and I leave them finished, others I just stop halfway through and make a new one. How about you?
1: I'm always in my stories, but NEVER the main character. Always a sub-character. Important, but not the one the narrator would concentrate on.

2: Always a girl. Dunno why. I'm strait as an arrow, would never get a sex change, but still always a female character. Sometimes partially not human, but only ever to the extent of "elf" or "winged angel like-thing". Never furry, once i was a dragon. Mostly human though.

3: Hate finishing stories. I hate finishing a book. I feel lost and sad that all the great adventuring of that character or characters is over.

Constantly. I always try to live like a knight. I carved a sword from wood (for props for something my friend was doing for a film project, but lets face it, it just gave me an excuse). I write fan fictions about characters who sword fight (and is a knight). I went so far as to make a metal yard stick into a sharpend blade (which I've been told i cna be arrested for if i walke doutside with it be a neighbor cop).

So yes, I fantasize about it. Along side winning the Stanley cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins as captain and first line center.
Did it look anything like this? I made it for a school project when I was 11, and I haven't parted with it since.

I do fantasize, but not so much like all the phases I went though when I used to play in my garden a lot. I tried to please emperors with creations made of clay I'd taken from the park, pretend I was in Age of Empires by making a little town center with stockpiles of bark, charcoal, stones, and other little things, uselessly plow the dirt, make pathetic "strong throwers" that were more like seesaws, stockpile "weapons" (sticks) at the back of my garden, ride my bike through the streets while hitting lamp posts and bushes with the sword pictured, thinking it was awesome. I also went through a more girlish phase of having many imaginary unicorns, horses, and assorted make-believe creatures I invented, and a spy phase.

As I got older, my fantasies turned more to music, people, and solving injustice somehow via propaganda.

In a way, I still feel the same as I did when I was younger. I still like that adventurous and bright feeling of the evening, and I still run around barefoot. I miss playing like used to.

I'm the same for point 2 and 3. I usually get bored near the end of the story because it's interesting for me when there is drama/conflict. It's difficult for me to tie up loose ends when everything is all happy and gay-like and working out swell.

I fantasize regularly. Especially when I'm listening to music, because that's when the voices start talking to me...

I do as well. I have a very vivid imagination. I often imagine cute pairings of people, cute animals being silly, romantic moments or awesome outings with people I've never met, but really care about. I often think about how it would be to hang out with my close friends here, to experience things with them and see how they live their lives. It's really great, but the good thing is I do not let it cloud the reality side of the spectrum either. :)
I do this type of fantasizing a lot. The perfect afternoon with a girl whose voice while reading Hamlet was the voice of an angel - conversations with friends and family about certain things. If I was gay, what would happen? If I spoke my mind more, how would it go down? If I moved to Olympia, Washington, how would that fly by?

When I was younger, I would do just as the OP said. Hell, I still do whenever I have a stick that is sword-length in my hands and nobody is looking. I even got a friend in it once; we sword-fought until our fingers were bruised from a lack of cross guards. I started RPing when I was about eleven.

Honestly... it warms my heart to see this thread, and see some of the posts.
I do the same, actually. Although I've mostly grown out of the sword-fighting stage, I daydream a lot about little romantic moments.

I've also thought about what it would be like to be a tiger, and gotten caught up in a most delightful dilemma... am I a woman, dreaming I am a tiger? Or a tiger, dreaming I am a woman?

I'm not a furry. But it would be a thrill, wouldn't it? Stalking the forest, bringing down prey with my powerful paws and jaws, teaching my cubs how to hunt, sleeping in the warmth of the sun...

Yeah, I do it all the time. Usually these fantasies relate to how I wish my life was.

Kinda, I'd have to look for mine cause its at my friend's house, but it had thread down the hilt, and was painted silver on the wood.

Yes, I do it too, though not to the extent of the OP. Usually it's just daydreaming, particularly when I can't sleep (i.e., every fucking night). I tend to dream up stories, though, but I can only ever think of cool beginnings, and the writing fizzles out after a few pages.

Yep. I can't hold a handled object for long without pretending it is a sword or a dagger. It makes for some interesting tennis matches.

Yes, I do. Constantly. My imagination is not necessarily broad, but strange. I am often devising new music and video games in my head. I am a freak.
