All the time, I have this whole imaginary Sci-Fi universe that I go to whenever I am bored. It helps me get threw the day. I have a whole timeline of events, and several pictures of the planet my story takes place on. When I am done with that, there is nothing wrong with taking out a foam sword and swinging it like a lightsaber.

Yeah I do it.....and sometimes I think of a script and start talking to myself in the exact tone the characters would say it in...then people catch me saying it.

I also imagine a lot stuff and sometimes we do it in a video game where we roam around in a private match and make our own storyline and usually they happen to be even better thatn the real games plot.

I have a very vivid visual imagination. It's quite fun at times. You haven't lived until you're playing WoW and you get the most vivid flash of two boars and a bear killing a bunch of convicts while a minotaur and an elf shoot down on them from above.

Yeah, I fantasize all the time.

I fantasize all the time and when I was younger then it was quite of many survival triggers I had against people that wanted to hurt me.

Being bullied?
I went into a fantasy world where I was a mage corrupting sheep to march towards my flock and overthrow the king.

Someone was yelling?
I became a bird and flied away from all of these harsh words.

Parents blaming me for their problems?
Then I turned into an adult and there I saw how terrible it was.

But really my imagination has always been quite fruitful ever since I was young and yes my parents told me that I would never amount to anything even tho I had better grades then they had in school ._..
Yes I do have extremely strange parents.

Yes, constantly. Often about how I wish my life was compaired to now. Earlier I imagined me winning $50,000 while gambling since my mom suggested going to Atlantic City during the weekend of my b-day (Not for me, she just wants to go on vacation and apaprently that was when)

Yes, I do it all the time, i'll just be sitting somewhere and be like "oh, that's a good idea for a campaign, i should write that down." Ahh, being the nieghborhood DM, fun times.(Yay for teenagers who like playing Tabletop games!)

Also, i'll craft entire stories in a game that has nothing to do with the game as presented, which is why i love sandbox games. For example, I used to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and pretend Cj was a pilot for some foreign country who's plane crashed down in Los Santos and he was tasked with Causing unrest in the country.

Lately I've been playing Saints Row 2 and pretending I was a Batman-esque vigilante who made base on the Saints Yacht and traveled around the city riding atop the Trains who called himself "The Martian" .

And oh, the fun i had with Oblivion.

This is how some writers operate. Sudden moments of inspiration.

On topic, yes this occours to me, it allows me to zone out an cool down when I really need to.

And no, the thread title has nothing to do with masturbation, you sick person. On to the thread:
Ever since I was a wee lad I have always had a vivid imagination, I would run around in the sun and pretend I was a swordsmen killing whatever I wanted, or a superhero, or whatever, I went from necromancy to being a king. I was able to concoct surprisingly deep stories, wether the bad guy was an orc named phil who had a nephew who dabbled in black magic and turned human and ended up becoming a druid in the name of justi- You get the idea. Point is I would always escape into fantasy land whenever I had nothing to do, probably like most kids, maybe.

Then I turned 10, and would jump from couch to couch swinging a pretend sword being a pirate.
Then 13, laying in my bed imagining to be a knight rescuing princesses from orcs and undead.
Now 15, I STILL DO THIS. I still from time to time just randomly am able to dream up a story and will spend hours just explaining important backstory of the world to myself and the heroes in it and everything. And I'm starting to worry myself that I'm the only person that does this. So I have to ask you, the escapists, do you ever escape without the use of videogames?
Not only will i add a "hell yes" to the cacophony you've already gotten, but i'll add that what you described is word for word what i've been doing for the last 10+ years. (i'm 20 and still going).

However, as a child i lived near a wooded river where i could wander and speak out loud my fantasies. Now that i've moved into the middle of town, i have had to train myself to speak in my head. I take long walks through town making stories.

I've written 3 books. And they're still in my closet written on old leftover notebooks from highschool.

Whatever you do, don't stop.

Edit: just a couple questions...

1: Are you always one of the characters or more of an omniscient narrator?
2: If you are the main character, are you ever of the opposite gender? Ever non-human?
3: Do you like getting the the finale and actually finish the story? or do you prefer a never-ending story, or to stop halfway through?

I fantasize so very often. Losing yourself in a world/idea of your own creation is the ultimate form of entertainment. Usually my fantasies involve me doing something to impress many people or sacrificing myself in some way that makes me a legendary hero to be remembered for all time.

I do as well. I have a very vivid imagination. I often imagine cute pairings of people, cute animals being silly, romantic moments or awesome outings with people I've never met, but really care about. I often think about how it would be to hang out with my close friends here, to experience things with them and see how they live their lives. It's really great, but the good thing is I do not let it cloud the reality side of the spectrum either. :)
I do this type of fantasizing a lot. The perfect afternoon with a girl whose voice while reading Hamlet was the voice of an angel - conversations with friends and family about certain things. If I was gay, what would happen? If I spoke my mind more, how would it go down? If I moved to Olympia, Washington, how would that fly by?

When I was younger, I would do just as the OP said. Hell, I still do whenever I have a stick that is sword-length in my hands and nobody is looking. I even got a friend in it once; we sword-fought until our fingers were bruised from a lack of cross guards. I started RPing when I was about eleven.

Honestly... it warms my heart to see this thread, and see some of the posts.

Oh wow! Thanks for the responses everybody! I'll go through and answer everybody's questions/Comments at a later time since I don't want to be a quadroupuel posting douche bag, now onto your 3:
1. Usually it depends, on wether or not the main protaganist/Antagonist is "Evil" or not. I do either, usually I'm one of the characters, I've gotten quite good at just filling in plot points on the fly instead of ruining the story for myself.
2. Never been a girl, dunno why now that I think about it.
3. I've had literally hundreds, some finish and I leave them finished, others I just stop halfway through and make a new one. How about you?

yes I do. I stand on my porch, and I make entire worlds. With histories, and everything. I write them all down. I'm at 1,042, at least I think so.

I still do that, and I turn 20 in a months time (a month today, in fact :D). Of course, as a writer, it all just becomes fuel for my various short stories, which is by no means a bad thing :D.

All the time, especially when I'm trying to get to sleep. I can't help it, fantasizing is the first thing my mind does when I'm bored. I tried writing a story based off a superhero idea I really liked, though unsurprisingly I didn't like the way my writing was turning out. I still like the idea, so perhaps I'll return to it at some point.

It's about a guy who gets killed on his wedding day, and upon returning as a ghost discovers he can solidify himself. He goes on a crusade against the people who killed him, and afterward decides to become a superhero until he can figure out how to reach the afterlife. That's one variation on it, anyways.

I used to, my imagination was one big wonder. So many vivid worlds and situations, crazy or completely normal yet always awesome.

But I'm pretty damned depressed for quite some time now, and I just can't no matter how much I try. All I can think about are the problems I'm facing and the shit I'm in.

It sucks.

Yeah, this is exactly why I began to learn how to program, I wanted to learn to program so I could make my own video games, and thus my own worlds I could escape to.
