I finally figured out why I refuse to watch... that one show. You know the one. The girly one.

If you like something and want to share

Fine.

If you don't and just want to ignore it,

Fine as well.

But never just say that it's someone else's fault that you can't watch it because of potential ridicule.

Stereotypes exist, we deal with them every day, this is no different. If you want to just stay away, then do it.

But don't use that as a goddamn excuse.

Yep. It's a My Little Pony topic. Yep. I realize that by making this topic I am contributing to my own issue with there being too many pony topics. And yep, I realize that many of you have already left this topic with an exasperated "you're not helping" sigh. But I'm on my meager lunch break, so I find myself pressured to put this out here regardless.

Anyway, I admit that Lauren Faust is good at what she does. Powerpuff Girls is and always will be one of my favorite cartoons. I admit that MLP is quite possibly good. I even admit that if I watched it, I might like it. But I won't watch it, ever. And it's all your fault.

I never, EVER, want to be a brony or confused for a brony. I've seen how annoying some bronies can be about MLP, and why so many people hate you guys for those loudmouths. My concern is that I may become that guy and frankly, I don't want to be more annoying than I already am. I kind of like some of these people. The other problem is that even if I DO resist the urge to vomit Fluttershy facts on people, the instant someone knows I watch the show, they'll assume I am a brony and either mock me or, if they are a brony too, turn the whole conversation into a pony one. It's just too much hassle for me to have to deal with for watching one stupid cartoon. It ain't worth it, especially since their are dozens of other great shows to watch with fanbases that aren't exceptionally annoying.

So there you have it. If you agree, then good for you. If you think I'm just making excuses and are giving into peer pressure, then I give you a hearty "Yea, maybe." Either way, I don't really care.
I've Warmed it up for ya!

OT:
Me personally, I do watch MLP and I find it a damn good show, but I dont hate on enthusiastic fans because they like something or because they just want to talk about it alot, who cares what people think haha.

I do think you should try treating excessive nagging bronies less seriously, and just have a laugh while doing it.

Heh, this again. MLP isn't my sort of thing, and doesn't appeal to me. I even watched one episode to prove it -- I don't get why people are so fanatical about it, except maybe the humourous expressiveness of the characters which are so often used in reaction images and avatars. Still, I don't actively dislike the show or its fans. I just like winding Bronies up at times.

Really? Oh, that's fair enough then. I assume he doesn't like anything ever in the history of the universe, since you know, if you like something you might end up being an annoying fan.

No wait, that's just retarded. Care to explain again? I still don't get the issue at all.
He's worried that if he watches it he'll end up ridiculously over enamored by it like the loud minority of the brony community.

~Eees no complicate!
That minority that you're talking about are annoying because they are loud, not because they like the show. They would be equally annoying no matter what it is that they liked, and I'd bet a lot of money that they were annoying before they started watching it too. It's not like a bunch of quiet, reserved people chose to watch the cartoon one day and were suddenly transformed into annoying internet trolls.

Is that really what he's afraid of?

I watch the show. Some people know I watch the show. No one really cares, and I don't go on a diatribe or monologue about it either.

What I'll never understand is why teenage to young adult males try to act like a persecuted minority when someone makes fun of them for watching a tv show for pre-teen girls.

admittedly, I only came in here since I thought this was going to be a troll thread because of the title's wording and I wanted to see the reactions. *sigh*

Well being a brony, I've known for quite some time that the opposition we face is being generated because of internal problems in our community with overly active people trying to convert non-bronies and others bring up the show too often in non-related topics. However, I don't have to let it get in my way of enjoying the show or what the creative part of the fan-base has to offer since that would just make my life less fun. If someone accuses me of being one of the two previously mentioning stereotypes I simply explain that I'm not. If they continue with accusation I just laugh at them for being an obvious troll.

I don't let the opinions of random people on the internet that I don't know or care about get in the way of my enjoyment and neither should anyone else on any subject matter.

Well if you don't want to watch the show, no one is going to make you(except maybe the most rabid of fans, but they need to be locked up anyway). However, I also think not watching a show because you're afraid of being associated as a Brony is a bit convoluted.

There are a lot of people who watch the show but aren't bronies. It really comes down to if you want to talk about it or not. Hell, no one even needs to know that you watch it unless you want them to. As for getting mocked, if someone is going to mock you because you watch a fucking cartoon then they aren't someone you should be associating with in the first place. I've had friends mock me for watching the show, but then they either watched it and joined me in liking MLP or eventually realized me watching MLP has nothing to do with them so why should they even care.

However, if you really feel like you'll become one of those more...obsessive fans...then you have a choice: you can forget the show exists like you do currently, or if you feel like you should try it and enjoy it you can talk with the many people who do enjoy the show and have them help you either find ways to healthily express your fandom or help them keep you in check.

At the end of the day, it is your choice and I at least will respect your wishes.

Literally nobody knows I watch this show, and I intend to keep it that way.

No, come on. You have to admit people have been swept up in the stupid craze. Identifying as a brony is more of a metameme than anything else. People who've never participated in anything like that have probably been absorbed into it.

What he's worried about is being swept up in that craze too. Because to people who don't watch the show, it's just annoying when people quote it for no apparent reason or post an but load of images in threads. It just gets tedious.
You get annoying pony fans just like you get annoying fans for everything else, to completely avoid watching something you might like because you're afraid of becoming that is just stupid. Watching a cartoon is not going to randomly change your personality, or how you act.

You have a choice on whether or not you're going to watch the show, and then you have an entirely separate choice on whether or not you're going to spam threads with pony images, or quote it incessantly. Watching the show doesn't force you to do anything, I still just don't get the reasoning, there's no subliminal messages hidden away the cartoon controlling your mind. Or at least, there's none that I know of...

The OP doesn't want to be one of these annoying fans, so he won't be, whether he watches the show or not. He's surely not so weak-willed that watching a cartoon could somehow force him to do something he doesn't want to, so what is the harm in watching it?

You'd like to enjoy the show, but you don't want to be a brony? Alright then. Ahem.
"I invoke the primordial rights of the beasts of the beyond. Horrors beyond space and time, I ask for your blessing. Heed the call of your most faithful servant. Forever bar the title of `brony` from Jack the Potato, I demand it! Musta Krakish, Cuthulu, Chelsea Handler, Rrush Shunack, Joel Schumacher, Mel Gibson: ancient horrors that lurk beyond immagination, I invoke thee." *Giant energy wave that envelops the entire thread* *dink*

Ok, done. Enjoy season 2.
