I dislike anime for the reasons of the "weeaboo" and I work in a store that sell the stuff. Granted I have a couple dvd's at home (full metal panic and patlabor) but on a whole I prefere american cartoons.

Avatar=not anime. Samurai C isn't even what I'd call a good example of classic anime. Saying Elfen Lied sucked? Wow, you have no idea what you're talking about. One of the top 20 best, easily.
Avatar has the art style and story telling of anime. As for Elfen Lied, That is your opinion.
When most people agree on something, it becomes fact. I won't put a number on it, but to say it isn't good is just plain wrong. You can dislike it, but that doesn't make it bad.
People agreeing just means they agree not that it is a fact. I also never said that I disliked it I had just said that it was your opinion.

Just a heads up, saying that disliking something is wrong is the first sign that you might be a fanboy / fangirl.

Please give a try to Azumanga Daioh.
It's not really the "Classic" animes people refer to but is really funny.
Yes it is about high school girls but this was made way before the "Moe" shitstorm of anime overwhelmed the so called "Slice of Life" genres.

This one is less about cutesy girls than it is actually about some of the random and generic things you might encounter in life even if it might not be directly applicable to you.

*PS Also forgot to mention GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka for one of the best Shonen anime I've watched. It's not about fighting and energy level but about high school kids (This one has equal proportion of boys to girls) dealing with their problems in life with a delinquent teacher.

then i found myself watching avatar the last air bender when i had some free time and it was pretty good then it got better and became quite good.
Okay, despite the correction that Avatar is not anime, it's fully American made, did you see it from beginning to end? Because that is the only way to watch that masterpiece of a show. If you only saw some episodes here and there, I cannot stress enough how much you need to start at the beginning and go to the end: it's an amazing show.

But yeah, there is some good anime. I recommend Death Note as a mind-bending psychological thriller, and Clannad if you're up for something different; a drama/comedy/romance that is guaranteed to make you cry in it's second and final season. Seriously, you will, I don't care what you say. You will cry. Beautiful show.

Alas another soul is lost to the seductive tentacles of anime. You will be mourned.

I only watch a little anime, but as long as you are having fun and not preaching how it is better than what I watch then keep doing what you are doing.

I am sure I am about to get laughed out of the anime thread but hey. I really like the Hellsing OVA, Gungrave was fun, Trigun has one of my favorite characters, and Vampire Hunter D somehow convinced me to like it. (If you have yet to see a pattern I pity you)

But anime is just like any other form of entertainment we will love some, hate others, but most will be meh.

So how do you get facts then? If all it takes it someone pulling the "it's your opinion" card, there is no such thing as a fact. "This thing we breathe is air." "No it's not, that's your opinion"

Shame on you!

Let's get real, it's pretty hard to hate Samurai Champloo ;)

Samurai Champloo works the same as Cowboy Bebop, As long as the anime wants to tell a story. Basically all of the episodes were fillers but they where organized to give a background to the characters. So when the Anime finished up, It felt truly finished, Even if The endings where cheesy.
I think it kind of works for Champloo (and bebop) to have it's episodes like that. The characters in champloo were kind of just lost in life, not really knowing what they wanted. Jin was just kind of "searching for something" he didn't know what, Mugen was just a wandering vagabond, living day to day with no long term planning and Fuu (the only character with a definitive goal) just wanted to find her sunflower samurai - but even she had no idea how or WHERE to find him.

Thus in this respect it kind of makes sense that each episode is basically just "them wandering and doing things" because in reality that's about the only common goal between all of them. It also helps that they all have very interesting backs stories and history to uncover.

Ergo Proxy is amazing in my books.... AMAZING. DBZ, is predictable at best.. gee I wonder if Goku will die, be reincarnated and then be able to go superscein x+1 from the last time he died (yes a gross over simplification but kind of on point). I liked Lied, but could see why ppl wouldn't, different strokes for different folks. But I do feel that Ghost in the Shell should be mentioned, especially the original movie before SAC or w/e the acronym is.

Champloo was alright, but it's not really what comes to mind when I think of "good anime." That phrase conjurs up images of the greatest anime ever produced, Fullmetal Alchemist. Intelligent yet hilarious, incredibly dark yet lighthearted, fantastic music, animation, and acting, with plenty of action, romance, and comedy to go around. Damn, is there anything that show *didn't* have?

Death Note is also up there if you want something incredibly intelligent, as is FLCL if you want something incredibly WTF!?-ish.

Not really. What we breath is called air. That is a fact. Not an opinion. How good an anime series is, is subjective. Therefore it's an opinion.
What makes that a fact is that the majority of people agreed upon it. That's what makes a fact, a fact. You can't just pick and choose otherwise I can claim anything is false because it is my opinion.

It's called the scientific method. It goes like this:

1. Define the question
2. Gather information and resources (observe)
3. Form hypothesis
4. Perform experiment and collect data
5. Analyze data
6. Interpret data and draw conclusions that serve as a starting point for new hypothesis
7. Publish results
8. Retest (frequently done by other scientists)

You cannot do this with an opinion.

A fact is something you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Fact = Trees are made of wood.

An opinion is a personal preference.

Opinion = I like mustard on my hot dogs.
