Click onto any forum on the internet and you'll more than likely hear jokes bashing some country somewhere. Ironically enough, I have taken notice that this mostly comes from people who actually live in said country. Americans mock America more than any European I've seen. I suppose nobody hates a country like their own countrymen--a statement I have said in pure satire in the past, but after a bit of thinking, it definitely has a ring of truth to it. If you think about it, people don't usually fully comprehend the problems of other countries until they've lived there.

Anyway, just wanted to throw this one out there on the Escapist and see the response I get.

I fucking love my country.

I can't comprehend how someone could ever hate their own country of origin...

Yea, no one knows more about what is wrong with their country than those who live there. As an American I've been given the lovely opportunity to witness the idiocies of my country, the arrogance of the diehards who believe America is better than everything else ever, and the lovely hate that so many people feel towards America. Fun fun.

I like my country quite a bit. We have a good enough relationship that I can make fun of it whenever I want. Also, I'm going to let any Americans here in on a little secret. Canadians make fun of Americans ALL THE TIME. I don't care how much you make fun of your own country, we probably do it more.

I love my country it kicks ass. And at the risk of sounding like a douchebag, I don't think anyone really hates Ireland

I don't hate my country. I just hate most politicians in my country. Mostly all the politicians in the Republican party is where my hatred goes.

I also hate Jack Thompson.

I live in America, and I love it. I admit that our government could be better, and that there are a lot of idiots, especially out west, but I would still rather live here than a lot of other places. Like Somalia.

I'm an arachnophobic. Hence why I hate Australia. Also Michael Atkinson.

Seriously though, I love it here most of the time and most of the time my problems are with the kind of people that are found all over the world.

That sounds like a sensible sentiment, but surely that's a reason to be grateful to be an American, not proud?

i like my country. Sure we have made some mistakes in the past, and continue to make mistakes, but a lack of pride won't solve that so...
