I hate "Natal" and everything it stands for...

I'm quite frightened about this whole natal business. I like to play games with a controller, or perhaps a keyboard and mouse. I don't want to have to stand up to play games. I don't want to have to make wild hand gestures to play games. Moving a mouse a few inches to turn around, or using a guitar hero controller, is the maximum amount of movement I can handle while gaming. (Not quite true.) If natal becomes so successful that it replaces the controller for the next xbox, I, an owner of an xbox and a 360, will be extremely disappointed.

On another note, my grandparents bought a wii. I don't know why. I asked and they couldn't give me an answer, except for a mumbled "for excercise maybe". I explained how if you want excercise you can just go for a walk. They only own wii sports. They haven't used it since the first time my sisters saw it and played tennis for a few minutes.

OK, HERE IS AN IMAGE

you are in a fantasy world
you lift up your hands in the air and say "FIRE BALL"

a fire ball is created above your hands, you take aim and fling your fire ball at the troll

you fail, the troll spots you and runs towards you, you wield your sword and parry his first attack, you then slash at his chest and only do neglible damage due to his body armour, you parry a few more times and make a 360 jump slashing at his neck, you decapitate the troll, you look down to his corpse and say "loot" the inventory oppens up and you grab whatever you need, close the inventory and continue to "edge forward" to walk.

now tell me if that doesn´t appeal to you!

So? It's still a box, not the logo
technically isnt the logo a sphere?
The 360 was meant to be the sphere of influence it made around it with its capability as a media hub working with a computer with windows media software. It never really took off to be honest.

As for Natal, taking as objective a stance as possible, I think that Microsoft is attempting to do what every major business does. Create, improve, or redesign something in the interest of making money. Will Natal be a success? Debatable, but history says probably not. If Natal is not a huge success, and I do mean huge, does anyone really think that Microsoft would make the huge financial gamble of standardizing it as the main input device for their next console?

Honestly, it may be a revolution in gaming. Or it may flop like eye-toy, and other attempts to revolutionize gaming. The important thing here is that they are trying something relatively new, and gaming cannot evolve without failures or successes because failures are sometimes more useful for growth.

I say good luck Microsoft, but I most likely won't be buying it.

Hardcore gaming characteristics...
- focus on gameplay and story
- challenging games
- well-made games

Basically it is for the most part synonymous with PC gaming. Its opposite is casual gaming, which puts a focus on rushing out lots of buggy games, fancy graphics, and amazingly easy to win. Casual gaming has long been tied to consoles such as the Xbox 360.
So by this definition, Bethesda's "Daggerfall" was a casual game, while "Peggle - Wow Edition" is hardcore?

Interesting.

So tell me, Sensei, is Pac-man casual or hardcore?

Methinks you need a new set of blinders, it's pretty obvious your current prejudices are broken.
Peggle wow edition is h4rdc0r3!

Natal sounds alright - it's Nintendo that are going to become the others but worse.

Anyway, as I have nothing better to do -

I know they're probably going to call it that, but stop and think. Does 720 make any sense at all? There are only 360 degrees!
Yeah and if they wanted to be literal about the term "360" then they'll put a bunch of "nextest next gen" hardware into an old Xbox, lord knows once they pull those weights out the bottom they'll have enough room for it all...

Pop a Ritalin and calm down. Natal will not destroy gaming any more than the Wii will. You will not be forced to use it. Now go sit in the corner and think about what you did.

Natal scares me. If only because it represents overcoming one of the main hurdles in technological progression - right before the terminators attack :|

Natal will succeed because motion controls will actually have graphics to back them up and not pre-set waggle motions unlike the Wii

The Wii is like fruit stripe gum, fun at first, disapointing later
The Xbox is like Stride
you mean I will see anyone using get rammed in the balls by a goat to stop? Sweet.

actually it's all in the power button on the original Xbox it was a circle and now it's a circle... but bigger! and with 4 separate lights.

Every person I know who owns a Wii barely plays it anymore. Every household of casuals I know who bought a Wii because of Wii Sports never touches the thing these days.
Well, in my case, I bought it for the shooters (mostly Resident Evils), and yeah... I don't play it day and night anymore... but, you could also say the same thing about my xbox, gamecube, ps2, GBA... so, that really isn't fair to say...

Ok, I have respect for what they're trying accomplish with Natal, and Milo and Kate aswell. However, I won't be buying either one. It just doesn't seem like fun, to me. I predict that the Natal will go the same route as the 32X and the Sega CD did. Hell, if they try and make it the next big console move (Which they won't), we might as well be calling it VirtualBoy (sp?). The tech, however, is remarkable. The whole mapping thing that Natal does has been around for a while, but to make it that size and relatively affordable is pretty big, and Milo responds to spontaneous commands in a very interesting way. If Milo can be more AI and less AIM ChatBot, it might really be something. Then you combine the two, and you damn near have a holodeck.

Why do we even care? It's just going to go the way of the Playstation Eyetoy. After all, it's just a souped up Eyetoy.

I get a headache just thinking about it. Sure, I'm probably overreacting, but MS is (was) the last bastion of hardcore console gaming.
Ugh. Not "OMGZ WE R TEH HARDCOREZ" again.
Oh, and.

Yes but many of it's games fail or become multiplatform games either way.

So we whine and complain about there being no innovation in the games industry these days but as soon as a product with potentially innovative applications comes along we whine and complain that it won't work because we don't like it? I really just don't understand. Natal opens up a lot of possibilities for games. A voice sensor, full 3D motion tracking and facial recognition? That opens up an incredible amount of uses. When combining Natal's capabilities with a controller you have near endless possibilities. Like a standard FPS except you can use body movements to lean around cover or peek over objects. Give squad commands with word of mouth, or try and force enemy AI to surrender by taunting them. And that's just one of many ideas for it.

The "natal" isn't anything new, if people would care to take a trip down memory lane there is already a thing out (out for quite some time) called and EYETOY, for the PLAYSTATION.

so the fella's at Microsoft should give each other big high fives.
