I hate COD because it abandoned what made it great. IE a great single player campaign based in WWII that let you play as the Americans, the British, and the Russians. Again, the great single player campaign that differentiated itself from the other WWII games and gave you a view besides the Americans. Crossing the Volga and going into Stalingrad, watching the man in front of me being handed a Mosin 44 carbine, and I was given a 5 round stripper clip of 7.62x54 rounds so I could pick up his rifle when he was mowed down by German MG42s was one of the most powerful and immersive moments I've ever seen in a game. Just before that, a man jumped over the side of the boat on the way across the Volga after they received fire from Messerschmitt's, and the officers fired on him, to show that cowards and retreaters would be shot on sight. It worked because it was true. Those exact situations happened during the siege of Stalingrad, it was portraying actual human beings under the harshest of situations.
That's why I don't like COD now. They're crafting their own wank off scenarios with hypothetical invasions and gun pron. There's no weight or meat to it. Being killed in COD MW 2 while fighting some nondescript Russians or Middle Easterners who just want to blow up the world for the lulz doesn't quite cut it. I seriously doubt the Taliban are out in force with G36's and FN-P90's, full body armor, and riot shields shooting it out in cave against freelance soldiers. It could happen, but I think the first two Call of Duty games were the best. They combined history with enjoyable games. And I do have a soft spot for Infinity Ward, since they made the first Medal of Honor for PS and it was one of my favorite games. (Well, the important people from the first Medal of Honor series founded Infinity Ward.)
