I hate to criticise TheEscapist but....

I'd like to preface this mini rant by saying how much I love The Escapist and how its my main source of gaming news and that iv been watching it grow since its early days.

But these ads are getting silly. Now im not a whinny so and so and I realise they keep a lot of revenue coming in foe TE to keep producing great stuff but recently the ads have got my goat. It all started when I decided to watch the entire back catalogue of I Hit it With My Axe. So, every 4 or 5 mins I have to watch not one but two video ads telling me the same thing, over and over again. That's 1 minute of advert for every 5(ish) of gooey nougat content. I get that if your current, like with other shows this only means watching them once or so a day and that's cool, no 'real' problem, but with back catalogues is got me pretty riled. Anyone else sympathise?

Once again I wanna say that I'm not trying to be provocative or aggressive just commenting on things that I see as being not quite right on my third most visited site.

Well, I never like ads, but the escapist is not that obnoxious with ads. They used to play ads in the beginning of video clips, but they stopped that now. They just show the ad around the video, which I think is better.

I don't understand you, I don't find these adverts to be intrusive and if they were, you're not paying anything to be on this very awesome site and Ads are where the profit is. (and the Publisher Club)

They still do that, it's just not as common anymore.

It adds revenue to the site and is an encouragement to subscribe I guess. I don't like the ads but then I haven't bothered to subscribe yet, so you just have to put up with it.
But yeah, I can sympathise, I only wanted to watch one video and it gave me two ads.

Well if you really dislike ads that may be motivation enough to join the publishers club, ad free browsing is nice.

Comes with a lot of other nice benefits too.

Sorry to be vague. I don't like the Video ads that play before the videos. None does. However i realise that they are part of keeping TE afloat. What i was trying to say is that the clips that take the bulk of the views are the current ones, and i understand why they ahve ads over them. But is it necessary to keep the ads on the much much older videos (say the ZP Bioscok which whilst still funny isn't current). It'd allow people to catch up on programs much easier.

At least its not like Gametrailers where you go there to watch an ad, but there are other ads at the sides of the screen, then you try to watch the ad you wanted to watch and a video ad blocks you for 30 secs, then the ad you wanted to watch don't work (but the ones you didn't want worked fine)so you have to refresh the page whereupon another ad, possibly the same one, blocks you again. So then you just go to youtube because its quicker.

yeh, i resisted joining for a long while, i kinda spend too long browsing forums and not working. But iv been here since it was pretty much just Yhatzee.

Joining the PubClub i suppose is the solution if it bothers me that much. I just suppose its getting more and more. First one ad per video, now two. WHEN WILL IT END!

Really? The ads are so minimal I barely even notice them, If it worries you that much join the publishers club. (It's really cheap)

The only thing that bothers me about the ads at the start, and this is something that ztara mentioned, is not so much that they are there, but that it's the same ad several times. Yes, I quite want to see 'Sucker Punch' but do three videos in a row have to advertise it? Variety is the spice of life after all.

Althought this is most likely due ot who is paying for that top rated ad space.

Of course no one likes the ads but it's the major way that we can enjoy this content without paying a penny. Don't get me wrong, I do understand what you're saying. Unfortunately though, the videos count as permanent, recorded material, and as such they keep the adverts on everything.

Well the PubClub is something i will consider, and yeh Vanguard i suppose your right. I suppose it'll have been one of the stipulations of the ad agents, to be on ALL THE VIDEOS. I don't know i only published this cos it had now gone to 2 ads before every video. So i'm waiting a minute (or there abouts) to watch each video.
