I hate when people spoil game endings.

I share your frustration! This is why I never ever enter video games sites when a game I like get released and I have yet to play it.
Games are like food, I like to have them fresh and unspoiled!!

I actually don't like hearing peoples opinions on endings and stories at all if I haven't seen it through to the end myself.

Hearing people go on about how terrible the ending of Assassins Creed 3 is even though they haven't actually spoiled it by going into details is just as irritating to me as my experience and expectations are going to be coloured by knowing this and I would honestly prefer if people just shut up altogether most of the time.

Now obviously if I'm really hung up about something I can always make the effort to remove myself from the internet and block out all opinions and information until I've finished a game myself but alot of the time unfortunately my willpower isn't that strong.
I don't have that problem personally. I see people stat walking dead season 2 (the show) is worse than 1 and then when I got around to it couple weeks ago, I thought it was 10x better for very specific reasons. I disagree with many popular opinions on writing right now. Dark Knight Rises has terrible writing that is so contrived I could puke and it is completely full of itself. Green Lantern was a good movie (not great) that had some pacing problems. I could go on but that should give you a gist. Many people don't know why they like or dislike something and there isn't anything wrong with that. However, this is why other people's statements don't bother me much maybe. I know a few guys that after watching a movie/playing a game, they aren't sure what they think and it takes them time and multiple experiences with it to sort it out. I know other guys that will like or dislike something and can't tell you why. I am the only person I know who can walk out of a theatre/beat a game and know exactly why I did or didn't like it and can go on in detail about it on the spot regardless of popular opinion about it. I came out of DKR theatre mad that they wasted 3 hrs of my time on a Batman movie trying to be artistic when it wasn't. I came out complaining about scene after scene. Later that week I saw a review where a guy caught a couple retarded plot devices that I had even missed and trust me, my list was long.

However, the only person I have met in real life who thinks the movie is terrible is my brother. I work with a lot of guys who think it is a good movie, one of the best of last years movies somehow. They can't say why other than they just think it is good but they like it. Online I have to watch people knock Green Lantern like it is some disgrace and hold DKR up on some ridiculous pedestal and that makes zero sense from a literary standpoint. Now, if you look at it from the standpoint that mob mentality grants Nolan a free pass it makes perfect sense.

My point is, don't let others taint your views based on what they liked or thought about it. Most of the time they have no clue what they are talking about anyways. That may be a dickhead way to see it, but it isn't fabricated. Some people may raise good points, but validate those with your own perspective and not the other way around. If others talking crap on a game you haven't played taints your perception, it means you are seeking validation through their perception.
I haven't completed the story for this particular game yet and it only irritates me to be told it's bad without having the knowledge to argue the point or even agree. I'm just being told like it's an undisputed fact and that's bloody annoying.

I don't care if people dislike something I do(case in point I think The Dark Knight Rises is excellent) but I like to know a bit about it before being informed of it's quality by someone else, if someone is going to say to me "Look I won't spoil anything but just so you know it's terrible" then I think they should have just kept their mouth shut and waited until I've seen what they're talking about and then I can judge the validity of their criticism.

You are right that one shouldn't let the opinions of others affect what they personally think and I don't(well for the most part anyway). But when it concerns something of which I don't have the details and spoilers are a concern then people really can't give reasons even if they have them.

Before I played Mass Effect 2 a while back, I had several things from Mass Effect 3 ruined from rading threads on this website that weren't even related to the game in question.

Sadface. Sadface indeed.

I got Walking Dead spoiled for me since some person on Tumblr couldnt tag her shit. Unfollowed her ever since. Bioshock is... almost spoiled? I have a general feeling what the plot twist is supposed to be. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Good thing that nothing about Portal 2 got spoiled for me, since the plot was incredibly good and very satisfying to watch it unfold.

If someone spoils the ending to a game, or anything for that matter, I'll usually not play/watch it at all or I will to see how it plays out. Some asshole I knew spoiled the ending to Borderlands and when I rented it, I got bored of it extremely quickly since I knew what was going to happen. With the release of Borderlands 2 though, I might go back and play the first all the way before playing the second to get the full experience.

What pisses me off are the people who just casually mention it like on the facebook comments on this site. It's not like the forums where you get tags or have to scroll down. If you are reading an article you can see the facebook comments at the bottom and I had people post spoilers on that which really pissed me off.

Or you get people in topics such as "What character deaths did you hate?" or similar, where people don't think that perhaps it might be an idea to put them in spoiler tags.

I actually think it should be against forum rules, seeing as they are pretty strong against more lighter things such as using images and low content posting (not that I do either).

I would say you do let the opinions of others affect what you think for the most part. If you want to judge AC3 and someone says it is terrible, and that affects your ability to judge, that is letting people's views affect your own. I know that when I am looking forward to a game and people rag on it, I get a little upset that there is a possibility it isn't good. I experienced this with Alpha Protocol, I braced myself and went in anyways hoping for the best. Turned out I loved it despite much of its criticism being true. To this day I won't dispute it's shortcomings with anyone but I like it. Their views didn't taint anything for me. They worried me as I had been waiting on that games release for so long but I never rule out the possibility of it disappointing me. If someone's opinion alters your ability to form one entirely on your own, then what you think is being affected by others. It's just how that works.

If you can, play through as if you don't know. make all choices as if that is a "possibility" and not a constant. That may salvage it a little. That one thing isn't all the game has to offer, I assure you. It just an really low blow.
Okay, I may give it a shot tonight then, after all. It was just that one thing spoiled, thanks. I think I will message ya to let you know what I think, and probably to thank you. Just in case, here's a thanks in advance. Thanks :)
I'd recommend you do,
There are definitely events you will see and depending on your prior behaviour choices you may get that affect the impact of that particular spoiler. Whatever there are things that happen you'll want to see even with that knowledge.

I don't read threads about games I haven't played yet but want to play.

It tends to save me from having endings spoiled.

I don't really mind spoiled game endings to be honest. If the experience towards the ending is good for me, I'll forget about what the ending actually is and when it does hit me still enjoy it. Then again it's different for some people. Some want the ending to be the best experience, some want it to be the journey towards getting to that ending.

The only spoiler I ever give out for a game or film is "It's shit", because that's the only spoiler I know of that can be beneficial to people. Games are expensive.

It irritates me that so many people on the internet who use spoiler tags on forums to prevent from spoiling (including many a member on this site) are so fucking horrible at doing so.

Step 1: State the name of whatever it is you are about to put in your spoiler tags
Step 2: Put said spoiler in spoiler tags
Step 3: There, was that so fucking hard?

So many people just put up tags without anything else. I've had Arkham City and both Infamous 2 endings spoiled for me on this site.
You know what irritates me?

Someone clicking on a spoiler tag and then complaining that something is spoiled for them.

Step 1:Don't click on spoiler tags
Step 2:There, was that so fucking hard?

<spoiler=So Do I>It's an illusion. Captain Walker killed everyone, and Konrad was dead the whole time.
Lee is bitten at the end of Episode 4, and Connie has to kill him.
Cortana dies.
Aerith dies.
Sephiroth is controlled by Jenova.
You were being mind controled, and Atlas is Fontine.
Bowser and Peach are actually lovers, and Mario is a stalker.
You were just building the Atom Bomb

I've had major plot details spoiled for me recently about Far Cry 3 and Skyward Sword, two games that I really got immersed into the story of. That absolutely made me mad.

I had someone spoil the twist in Dishonored for me. We were talking about the game and it's the first thing he blurts out. Needless to say, I was annoyed.

Youtube comments are bad for this.

Sometimes there will be spoilers in the comments that are completely unrelated to the video -_-
Random unrelated Youtube comment completely ruined the big moment from Bioshock for me before I played it. By the time I realised exactly what I was reading about it was too late :/
