Spoilers don't usually bother me or ruin things, but I found people intentionally spoiling Red Dead Redemption for others to be insanely dickish.
I'm confused with what you're trying to tell me here? If other people have a different opinion than I do and I'm aware of it then I can't help but have my opinion altered by them?Savagezion said:I would say you do let the opinions of others affect what you think for the most part. If you want to judge AC3 and someone says it is terrible, and that affects your ability to judge, that is letting people's views affect your own. I know that when I am looking forward to a game and people rag on it, I get a little upset that there is a possibility it isn't good. I experienced this with Alpha Protocol, I braced myself and went in anyways hoping for the best. Turned out I loved it despite much of its criticism being true. To this day I won't dispute it's shortcomings with anyone but I like it. Their views didn't taint anything for me. They worried me as I had been waiting on that games release for so long but I never rule out the possibility of it disappointing me. If someone's opinion alters your ability to form one entirely on your own, then what you think is being affected by others. It's just how that works.
You claimed earlier that if someone said a game you hadn't finished yet was terrible it would "colour" your perception. Unless you are going into the game thinking that is an absolute impossibility then I don't see how that could colour it. Do you think it impossible for AC3 to be bad? Do you think it impossible that someone may think it is terrible despite it being good to you? Do you think it impossible for them to be wrong? I wouldn't think so, so why is it annoying to you and how does it colour you experience. Why feel the need to defend the title to them? Especially if you haven't completed it yet? I am just pointing out that the opinions of others shouldn't have any bearing on your experience, especially if it is as simple an opinion of "It did or didn't suck". Do you also get upset if someone says "It's wonderful" or is it only if they are talking down on it?King Billi said:I'm confused with what you're trying to tell me here? So if I get around to finishing this game and end up loving it, it won't be because it what I honestly believe but just because I want to spite all those people who said it was terrible or something..?
I'm sorry but I don't understand, I was just talking about something which annoyed me.
Oh my God, that reminds me of when I was watching a portal 2 trailer 2 days before it came out and a guy in the comments said the whole plot twist and how it was resolved for no apperant reason.Karoshi said:I got Walking Dead spoiled for me since some person on Tumblr couldnt tag her shit. Unfollowed her ever since. Bioshock is... almost spoiled? I have a general feeling what the plot twist is supposed to be. Let's hope I'm wrong.
Good thing that nothing about Portal 2 got spoiled for me, since the plot was incredibly good and very satisfying to watch it unfold.
I'll take that on board, thanksRack said:I'd recommend you do,chozo_hybrid said:Okay, I may give it a shot tonight then, after all. It was just that one thing spoiled, thanks. I think I will message ya to let you know what I think, and probably to thank you. Just in case, here's a thanks in advance. ThanksSavagezion said:If you can, play through as if you don't know. make all choices as if that is a "possibility" and not a constant. That may salvage it a little. That one thing isn't all the game has to offer, I assure you. It just an really low blow.
There are definitely events you will see and depending on your prior behaviour choices you may get that affect the impact of that particular spoiler. Whatever there are things that happen you'll want to see even with that knowledge.
Lucky for me, I already knew all that stuff. Why the need to do that, without listing what was under the tag. Hopefully no one looked at it, because it spoils a few games, some new, some old.saintdane05 said:So Do I
I think the point is that people are bothered about different things being spoiled for them, so it's helpful to give some idea what the tags are hiding. If a thread is about a game I've already finished, I'll happily click on any unlabelled spoiler tags, because I assume they'll be about the game. It's a bit disappointing if they turn out to be about a completely different game/film/book that I haven't yet finished.MetalDooley said:You know what irritates me?imahobbit4062 said:It irritates me that so many people on the internet who use spoiler tags on forums to prevent from spoiling (including many a member on this site) are so fucking horrible at doing so.
Step 1: State the name of whatever it is you are about to put in your spoiler tags
Step 2: Put said spoiler in spoiler tags
Step 3: There, was that so fucking hard?
So many people just put up tags without anything else. I've had Arkham City and both Infamous 2 endings spoiled for me on this site.
Someone clicking on a spoiler tag and then complaining that something is spoiled for them.
Step 1on't click on spoiler tags
Step 2:There, was that so fucking hard?
They're called spoiler tags for a reason though. If you click on one then you've pretty much given up your right to complain when something is spoiled for youMetalMagpie said:[I think the point is that people are bothered about different things being spoiled for them, so it's helpful to give some idea what the tags are hiding. I agree that the safer option is never to click on unlabelled spoiler tags, because you have no way of knowing for certain what the contents is (beyond that it's probably a spoiler for something).
Rosebud is the sled. Darth Vader is Luke's father. The Planet of the Apes is Earth. Soylent Green is people. Dumbledore dies.
Not all of these are equally as well known.MetalMagpie said:Rosebud is the sled. Darth Vader is Luke's father. The Planet of the Apes is Earth. Soylent Green is people. Dumbledore dies.
