There was more roleplaying this episode, so that's a good thing. This show still kinda sucks though. Why the Escapist is producing this is beyond me.
There have been a lot of very interesting discussions on how necessary Dice are to Roleplaying in both the Indie and Mainstream game'o'spheres, my favorite comment on Dice is that they provide a random element that can change the story in ways nobody expected, not the players, not the GM. They can also provide a fallback when you can't quite muster the necessary creativity to play without them.lomylithruldor said:Yeah, because rolling dice is really at the core of role-playing? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber_Diceless_Roleplaying_Game [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber_Diceless_Roleplaying_Game]Megido said:Two episodes in, and no dice rolling?
Also, i think you missed the character creation part of the last episode.
All the intense Troll rage towards Game Dogs and I Hit It With My Axe makes me lament the old days when The Escapist used to be a fairly friendly place that was stunningly courteous for an internet forum. Now it seems we've become like every other site on the web, this thread being only marginally less full of assholes than your average YouTube comment section.addeB said:Turned into a wolf... I have nothing against game dogs and i just doesn't like this show? Does that make the escapist a unfriendly place? No my good sir, it doesn't. The escapist still have much more friendly and fun members then most other sites.PedroSteckecilo said:All the intense Troll rage towards Game Dogs and I Hit It With My Axe makes me lament the days when The Escapist used to be a fairly friendly place. Yeah, i agree to that. I love when something unexpected happens because of a epic/epic fail dice roll. But, I don't think having any dice rolling in 10 minutes is out of the ordinary. I often see hours between rolls and that's all right, more so in the intro of the game.PedroSteckecilo said:There have been a lot of very interesting discussions on how necessary Dice are to Roleplaying in both the Indie and Mainstream game'o'spheres, my favorite comment on Dice is that they provide a random element that can change the story in ways nobody expected, not the players, not the GM. Actually that's pretty much what everything in Roleplaying is, a support system for play and imagination that you might not otherwise be able to muster.
That comment wasn't specifically aimed at you, more of just a general statement piggybacking on yours. But seriously, look at some of the earlier posts, damn unfriendly, angry, trollish stuff that might have gotten people banned 2 years ago.addeB said:I have nothing against game dogs and i just doesn't like this show? Exactly my thoughts, thank you.Vergast said:I feel like if i didnt have a Y chromazone and recorded myself playing warhammer i too could get a show on the escapist thanks to this show.
Pretty much this, when did strippers and porn stars get so ugly..and boring?mechanixis said:I really want to like this, guys, but it's shaping up to be "stupid, unattractive, and fairly self-important women squabble for five minutes, the show."
(Almost) every film maker knows not to take that kind of unfriendly comments personal, since the poster shows how unmature he/she is. And alot of people here seems jealous that this guy got a show on the escapistPedroSteckecilo said:That comment wasn't specifically aimed at you, more of just a general statement piggybacking on yours. This gentleman has hit the nail on the head. Sure, its got hot girls and its about roleplaying, two very good subjects, but this does not instantly mean that combining the two will be a success. Pretty logo though.messy said:So does it really matter if it's hard, if it's not interesting it's not interesting.
I whole heartily agree that a "previously on" section would do wonders for this. Being dropped in to the middle of this with understanding of, or connection with the characters makes this more confusing than I think it has be.Satine Phoenix said:Thanks a bunch! When I play other people's D&D Shows/Podcasts I like it when its long and I listen to it/watch it in the background when i'm working. My personal opinion is that this show should be at least 10 minutes long if not 20 minutes with "previously on ..." commentary at the begining of the show so you can really get into what is going on and connect with the characters better. But I'm not the editor or producer. Its really up to them.RougeWaveform said:I'm liking it. There's certainly room for improvement, but I could see it getting a lot more interesting once the game takes off a bit. Keep at it!
I do think that most of the other comments are a bit too severe, but this is the Internet. *sigh*
I agree with you on this, and the first episode was hardly gripping but it will be nice to go back to for reference to the players. I wouldn't mind seeing an episode where one of the girls turns the camera on Zak and we get to know him more.Undercover said:What the hell do you guys want? Here's a thought, how about instead of bitching like a bunch of whiny fanboys you actually suggest how the show could be improved? This is a rare opportunity to actually HELP a production rather than just shit all over it, and none of you are taking advantage.
Every new show goes through some growing pains, and I'm not ready to give up on this one yet. Lighting: MUCH better. Pacing: Getting its stride. Editing: a lot tighter.
Zak et. al., you're not there yet, but you're getting the right idea.
I know I'm going to get flak for this like I always do when I disagree with the self-important geeks around here, but if I actually cared what any of them thought, I'd never speak my mind.
Unlike the majority of commenters, I know what its like to produce a show and edit video & its bloody HARD TO DO.
So let them feed their own egos by dumping on your ideas, if that's all they can bring to the table then too bad for them for their lack of imagination or creativity. Its a whole lot easier to tear something down than to try and help improve it.
