I don't watch US porn, only hentai and Tokyo Hot, so these names mean nothing to me.

That said, I am purely interested in the shenanigans of a group of people (most don't appear to be newbies) playing DnD. I do pen and paper once per week (my group consists of 3 girls and 5 guys) and it's always a blast, especially since my group is mostly interested in setting fire to things, killing things, looting and bickering. It's good to see we're not alone

As for the show, I wasn't keen on the first episode, but now that you're actually into the role play, it did hold my interest. I wasn't as entertained as I would have liked, but I could relate to the snippets of conversation, and Sasha (she's the new one, right?), reminded me so much of a friend who just loves to loot.

improvement? how about a story? start at the begining, give them an objective, and film the progression. it's hard to remain interested because it looks like it just jumps around and no one really knows whats going on, just an idea.

Ok a few tips aka reasons I am having trouble getting involved in this show:

1. I don't know or connect to any of the people, to me they are names and faces. Maybe take some time to get to know each person and their D&D character? then have a little overview of what happened during that game?

2. The story, what is the goal here, to play D&D? to save princess peach? to show me porn stars are people too? Make this clear.

3.I want to see the evolution of the people and the characters see first point.

4. The game seems a little rushed due to lack of detail, this could be due to time constraints or limited video time, but more detail for the quests, characters, and world.

5. Let the girls shape the mission, she wants to kill the inn keeper let her, just make every action have a reaction, I want a sandbox D&D not a linear story, this will help us get to know the players.

6. Add some humor more-to-come needs to show up as a villan
(this should D&D lite for those people that have little experiance with it or those who are trying to quit)

This is constructive, to the point and exactly my opinion. I've been mastering various RPGs for mostly one core group, but which has varied with additional players over the years. We first started in the early ninetees and from my experience the above tips will generally lead to concise and memorable sessions.

However, lets not forget there's also a camera present. Maybe the idea is that if anyone could put a D&D session on film it would be pornstars; something which is really kind of personal and intimiate--you are making an ass of yourself in front of your buddies pretending to be an elf with a broadsword shouting one-liners after all. Dunno if that idea came to fruition. Getting naked (etc) and playing D&D aren't really the same kind of embarrassing ....

I'm still watching, at least.

PS. Btw, this is the first reality show I've watched more than five minutes of since MTVs Real World back when. I hate reality shows.

No, no this show is not for me. I mean I stayed with game dogs and I'm mildly glad I did but I haven't actually watched a full episode of this... I just can't do it.

Same here, GameDogs got quite good after aome eps, especially with some of the game shown now, but watching some pornstars play D&D, sorry, not moi.

Apperently I have a terminal condition called a social life, and I don't like D&D a lot anyway...

I fear The Escapist have gone all Mass Effect 2 on us. By that I mean that the mere mentioning of adult media draws lonely gamer-viewers as well as lonely D&D player-viewers.

Sorry, it's still dreary(for non-intimi) old D&D, no matter who plays it...

As a DM myself I'm still enjoying it, I can watch people play D&D and still be interested. It's also a little disappointing to see people criticize Zak's DMing style based on 5 minutes of video instead of looking at his blog.

Yeah, some DMs don't get really theatrical, that doesn't mean they can't run a good game. The important things that need to be done when DMing D&D actually has very little to do with whether or not you choose to voice act all the NPCs, but more to do with how you do your world-building and whether you can put together an adventure that keeps your players interested.

I think where the problem lies with the whole blog thing is.. And I'll admit I may be wrong... We had no hint of the blog before the show came out.. So when the first episode arrived. We'd be watching this first.

Because of this.. Those who found the show unappealing wouldn't want to look into the background of it more by checking out the blog.. The show was already uninteresting for them, so why would they bother?

If they had shown the blog first, like a day or 2 before the pilot, then I'm sure maybe some would understand it enough to try to follow it along a bit longer, but this didn't happen (That I'm aware of.)

If it was up prior to the first episode however, then disregard this post. I'm only going on what I know and saw at the time, and from there trying to figure out where the problem would stand.

Um... how is having all your friends over for a house party that just happens to involve rolling dice and collaborative storytelling indicative of not having a social life? Clearly you have some major misconceptions about the Pen and Paper Roleplaying hobby.

i still think that it just needs some quick funny animations after actions or something, better camera work and a bit more time spent of it and then it would be pretty funny and interesting. from now on i think that people could be a bit more constructive with their comments because i'm pretty sure all the bad points have been mentions about 40 time over.

To be honest I do, because I find it easy for a dungeon master to break a game if he decides pretty much what happens to everyone, the amount of exp you gain and where you end up 'n stuff.

As for not having fun with it, I said, in the piece you handily cut of the quote, that it's " dreary(for non-intimi) old D&D, no matter who plays it..."

I talked about who played it, but it also shows what I am, someone who never got D&D, and therefore is not able to judge the game.

Not to say I hate fantasy or anything, I like Warhammer and read the LOTR books(not just the movies, then declare to be a buff).

Oh no, wait, I get it. Since D&D is for "nerds" only, that means they are the stereotype who are socially awkward, wear broken glasses, have pocket protectors, and have no friends to play the game with. I guess the same goes for anybody who plays video games, 'cause most of those are played alone. You don't need to talk to anybody at all. Man, people who play games in general are nerds with no social life.

I think the best analogy I can think of for my reaction to this series goes a little something like this:

I like kittens. I also like milkshakes. However, I wouldn't want a milkshake made from kittens. Or even a kitten-flavored milkshake.

I love D&D, and I like porn. I even like these particular pornstars. That may well be a contributing factor for why this series just feels somehow wrong to me. I could write a rather long post on what I think the psychological reasons are for that, but I think I'll let it lie.

As far as suggestions for the show as a whole... more coherent editing and a longer runtime would probably make it easier to digest.

I suppose I just don't understand why people consider DnD and other RPG's "anti-social". Hell RPG's almost REQUIRE you to interact with other people face to face and are far more "social" by my measure than being an anonymous twat over Xbox Live.

It's odd, I've been roleplaying for so long I often ask myself what do people who don't roleplay even DO with their Saturday Nights that's so much more special than what I do? I mean I suppose if your single you might be out looking for a date, and if your Significant Other is a non-gamer you probably want to spend time with them, but what about everyone else?

AND, most important: I hate club music. There's a bar I attend every once in a good while, but since the music is usually oldschool rock it's okay. You make a good point. Maybe one of the reasons I dislike the show so much is that I feel the same way as you; insulted that it is supposed to (and apparently is much to my dismay) appeal to the "nerd" crowd.

I really wish stereotypes weren't true, but the fact that this boring show is supposedly very popular is kinda throwing that right in our faces. It has no merits beyond that it contains attractive women, yet, according to Archon, it has had the biggest opening of any show on the Escapist. I can only hope that's due to the shit storm it's causing, and not because lots of people actually like it.
