I like how it says that 'Many Publishers Club Members have been banned and there is no evidence to suggest that they are refunded.' yet it only cites one user who was banned after they removed their subscription and their PubClub status ran out.

Some people really need to factcheck their claims beforehand.

The title's a bit of a joke, because I never had any faith in the internet ;)

Anyway, I recently discovered something that really pissed me off. Basically theres this ED rip off where pretty much all they do is whine about LRR, Moviebob and the Escapist. :(

I'm a big fan of all these things, and it pisses me off to see people being this ungrateful/jealous/trolling this hard. I found this site on the LRR forums, they went and trolled that site afterwards as well until Graham and Kathleen stopped them.

The amount of douchebaggery and childish writing is hilarious. XD

For discussion purposes, have you guys discovered any nonsense like this on the web about The Escapist? What do you think of this pathetic site, find anything on there?
sounds about right, but how is it relevant? all that tells me is the escapist staff are human just like everyone else
it's just a pathetic troll attempt aimed at us 'so called' aspies

If you have any confidence you should be able to laugh at yourself.

And let's face it. The Escapist does have very strict forum rules. They're there for a reason and I support them but I can easily see how they could become joke material, most serious things are.

The Escapist generally also deals with slightly more serious topics then just whether or not the latest game was awesome/cash-grab. And like all serious things that makes it joke material, in the form of elitism.

And you can't really deny that certain topics have a tendency of reappearing over and over again on the forums. I mean nothing inherently wrong with that but it does happen. Again, easy joke material.

If you've got any confidence in the Escapist at all then just see them as the jokes these things are. Laugh at them if you think they're funny and ignore them if you think they're not.

But if you're feeling terribly insecure you can always start calling them names instead, because that will totally show them that there's not a grain of truth in their jokes at all.

Well, I kind of have to agree on this:

"Presumably, the members also have short term memory loss, as "X VS Y", "Am I the only one?" and "How do I get a girl to like me?" frequently return to the active topics"

Much of the stuff on MovieBob too.

Zombie Fish? I thought you were a mod. People do get refunded if they get banned, right?

I searched publisher's club and they have an article on it as well.

"Part of your money will go towards making the video slightly bigger, instead of hiring a professional writing team, animation production company or a 15-year old with a basic Business Studies GCSE, any of which would improve the site by ten-fold on it's own."
They don't seem to understand that no-ones being forced to pay for anything here.

It seems pretty obvious how its relevant... this is the Escapist.

I don't really see a problem. I've been reading through it and most of what they say is pretty accurate. Especially the forums, I'm honestly sick of seeing "The character in the last game you played is X", "I don't get My Little Pony" and "Poll: Is X really better than Y?" forum topics.

Seriously, please stop replying to these.

The site has taken a turn for the worse since the introduction of the Captcha and the loss of decent shows like Doomsday Arcade and Apocalypse Lane. It seems like things have gotten a little less light-hearted recently and it's a shame because I do like this site and people do need to lighten up a bit and stop taking things so seriously.

Frankly, I preferred ED's style more. It was way more in-your-face than this, which was also what made it stand out and be different from other sites. This one reads more like what Wikipedia would be like without the sucking up and political-correctness. A step up in entertainment value...but still boring in the end.

This.

I think MovieBob produces better episodes the lower his ego is.

Also to the OP about the thread title. You had faith in the internet?

So, I haven't gotten to check out the rest of the site extensively, but does anyone else get the feeling that this is what they do? The entire website is a wiki about showing the internet in the worst light possible for the lulz? The few other articles I've seen are all negative (I wonder if they have an article about themselves? That'd be meta...). In which case I'm not against the idea of a website that goes around highlighting the flaws and pitfalls of other things on the internet, it's by seeing where we are messing up that we can try and improve ourselves.

The INDb seems to be entirely that kind of stuff, not just about The Escapist and your favorite shows. Hell, just look at some of the headers 'This page isn't funny. Read the Editing Guidelines to find out how you can add forced anger, self deprecation, basement dweller comparisons, attacks on autism, crude humour and strawman analogies to this article.'

It seems the whole point is to mock things for amusement, not out of actual criticism, and the fact you took it seriously probably suggests they didn't do a good enough job (or maybe they did, if the goal is to laugh at people like you).

So, I say take it on the chin, either accept that some people find that funny, or learn to find it funny yourself, just don't get upset by it.

I found those articles quite amusing, to be honest. That kind of content is always good for a laugh.

I was a mod.

If someone's account gets banned then they only lose access to the private forums and their custom title. All the other benefits like HD videos, no ads, podcasts, contest entries etc. they get to keep until their subscription runs out, so by having their account banned they still don't lose out on the majority of the Publisher's Club stuff.

It may be possible for a user to specifically request a refund and for their subscription to be cancelled then and there (I think I remember a staff member once talking about that), but if your account gets banned then it typically won't get a refund unless you actually ask for one. I even know of one premium member at least who was banned at his own request yet still uses the premium membership and another who was banned before the PubClub was even introduced and is still paying for it.

I don't need faith in the internet. It exists. I might need faith that AT&T internet service will work for more than 10 minutes at a time.

I've seen this website before, in fact I vaguely remember the person who created it commenting on these forums. He said that he particularly hates Channel Awesome.

I never got why many sites hate the Escapist -- it's not like they took a huge list of websites, closed their eyes, and randomly selected the Escapist to hate on. They must be butthurt about something or other.
