Skyrim is a sandboxy role playing game where as most mainstream so called RPG's are played more like a choose your own story book. Games like mass effect and Dragon age don't appeal to me and many others because its like watching a 40 hour long movie where you have to make some kind arbitrary choice every 5 seconds just to watch the ending movie and get it over with, I don't want to care about the characters, I want to be the character and that is what a role playing game should be in my opinion. That is why the TES games are so loved by many and disliked by many. So its not you flavor, play something you like and get over your self.
To address the hype and elation over Skyrim, the only add or review I had for buying the game was Morrowind and Oblivion, no add or review convinced me to like the game, just the fact that it was similar to the others from Bethesda I would have at least 80 hours of enjoyment and I did.
To address the bugs, I played 120 hours game time on 1 play through on my PC and had 4 bugs total, maybe 2 graphical glitches or a plate falling off a dresser...sorry for everyone else that had bad luck but it seems the game I bought worked fine.
Skyrim is not bad and it is not broken, some people just don't like it, if they did I might not like it... it just boils down to different people like different things and hold to different virtues in their gaming experiences.
to the OP I hope you like your next game more.
