Okay, the real question I have here is: Why do male Escapists like talking about what they like in a girl? There are so many threads that turn into this, and I don't get it. I mean, you've got your "I like big boobs", then your "I like a girl who's attractive and likes me", then your "I'll take whatever I can get" and then your three paragraph long one about what colour hair she should have, and past experiences with girls of that hair colour. Is there some thrill in saying these things? I really don't get it. I've taken part in it maybe twice, and I'm not really sure why, but I know I don't feel inclined to say it again at every opportunity I come across.

I don't think the majority of them are sexist, so I want to make sure I'm not misinterpreted that way; I just think they're odd.
i Think Girls on The escapist should make a Thread on What they like about a GUY

Perhaps then the girls will say "I like a guy who...", and it be something we can match up to?
right, I like a guy who is quirky, funny, loving and honest. Physically, a fit torso and bum are good points, long black hair and a broody/hungry look (the kinda look you give a woman when you're feeling REALLY horny)!

And YES, i do think vincent valentine would be perfect if he was a real guy! lol Although in reality, as long as I'm attracted to someone, their appearance doesn't have to be the above :)
Sorry, I don't like to be the party pooper, or the naysayer, but this thread is kind of anti-'what do you like in a (wo)man'. It's sort of the opposite asking why we do this all the time.

I guess I can link this to a question:
Why did you post the above? Gratification? Because you could? Wanted to share? I don't really see the point of telling a bunch of people you'll ever meet what you like. Or I guess in a way it's like telling a brick wall. You just want to hear the echo.

(Sorry, the above post is by no means meant to be taken in any aggressive or negative tone)

I agree, perhaps it's the anonymity that we all know the internet so readily provides which spurs people on to pour their hearts out when they would do no such thing in person. Think of it as an outlet, in a way.

I do, however, find it odd, the number of threads like this, and indeed the nature of the majority of the responses.

In a way, isn't it a good thing?

In a world where we're all supposed to lust after Britney and Justin Timberlake (yes, my cultural references are ancient, because I can't force myself to care enough to follow the trends, I dunno, the cast of high school musical?), it's kinda nice to read that not all people want that, and actually their ideal lust target (if we're talking looks and not 'life partner ideals') is something no advertising executive had ever considered.

I do believe just about everyone has someone who'll find em attractive, just some people have a larger pool of people to choose from.

I think the main reason that the threads are so popular is that every has an opinion about what type of girl they like. Whereas for something like maybe 'lets discuss this point of string theory' where you have to actually READ the opening post to have an opinion. Which brings me nicely onto something that made me laugh, some people are replying to this thread where they clearly havent read the opening post because they're replying to the question:

I like a girl who....

We salute you members of the internet who post in threads they dont bother to read.

I'm also hoping evolution hurries up and catches up with Scott Adam's (dilbert) theory that soon big muscles, strength and fitness will fall away as attractive, and glasses and ability with a screwdriver and utilities disc becomes a thing of lust, as after all, we're supposed to be attracted to the people can defend us against predators, and provide for our family, surely a credit card stealing virus is more of a threat than a tiger that needs wrestling.

Because while we all pretend to be [b/]British, smooth talking, tea-drinking, aristocrats[/b] we're all actually sweaty American teenagers who can't think of anything other than boobies.
...You've really never been to Britain have you?
Exactly, and neither has anyone who pretends to be like that.
What, you can't be smooth-talkin, tea-drinking and aristocratic, once you've seen Brittain? I must have missed something on my last visit... Is there some terrible secret here?

I think that's the whole point. A lot of people enjoy venting their frustrations online, and this is the same sorta deal. At the end of the day, it IS just about equivalent to the aforementioned wall chatting, but I hypothesize that it's relaxing to just let it out every once in a while.

Besides, some of us gamers don't get a lot of action. Maybe some people talk so much about what they want in a woman because they've had a lot of lonely weekends to think about it. Obviously there are tons of exceptions to this, but I'm just wondering if that isn't one possible reason.

Sometimes the echo is cool, too. Don't belittle the echo.

Or maybe they were drunk when they were posting? Drunks tend to ramble on and on.

Perhaps it would be a fair comparison to see forums as kind of like a multiplayer diary? However, that does already exist, and it's called a blog.

Maybe people just really enjoy talking about themselves.

Isn't Foe-Hammer the callsign for the Pelican pilot in the first Halo game?
