Because while we all pretend to be British, smooth talking, tea-drinking, aristocrats we're all actually sweaty American teenagers who can't think of anything other than boobies.
How DARE you sir?! I am NOT sweaty...

Okay, the real question I have here is: Why do male Escapists like talking about what they like in a girl?
It's what males in general do, not just here on the escapist. We are males, and thus have certain hormones which make us think and act in certain ways. The exact same mechanism that makes us discuss boobies is also responsible for making us carry home all the heavy shopping, unblock the toilet, and put all the shelves up.

Those threads have made me quite a few friends, since I'm always pining for some male company... It's not always about lonely little nerd boys, it's lonely little nerd girls too.
Hear hear! :D
We should start a lonely hearts club here with all these romance threads flying about...

Did I just have an idea? :p

SecretTacoNinja's Dating Service! I like the sound of that...
I'd join. You'd get a lot of members if you started it up now too, since valentine's day is coming up and people hate being alone on that day.
Ya think I should do it? It might shut up all these 'What do you like in ___?' threads...

I seem to remember someone doing one once. It got locked very fast.
Edit: Found it; jim_doki's love filled shack-esque building [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.78642#984901]

...but it's probably because some people feel they have weird dislikes and likes, and want confirmation that they're not the only one?
This is probably what spawns 75% of the threads and 90% of the forums on the entire intertube: people seeking validation for their personal preferences. If you look hard enough, you'll eventually find groups for everything. Like eating ice cubes? There's a forum for it. And for everything else.

I'm more than likely gonna get flamed for this... But Most of the guys on the escapist, (note the use of most) are Anons, and for those who dont undertsnad what i mean... The anon has no luck with women, He either comes across as too much of an asshole, or to much of a desperate nerd. He therefor likes to talk about what kind of women he likes, to ease his pain at the single life, and almost convince himself, that he hasnt found the right girl for him, and that THATS why hes single. Until not long ago I was one of these guys. So i know it to be true

People who keep linking these damned cat pictures are clearly lacking attention in real life. Please discuss that with your therapist.
Actually, that's more of an unsupported hypothesis. I don't know why Nuke does it, but seeing as he's pretty popular around here and he seems like a nice guy, I don't think it applies to him. Me, I hopped on the bandwagon for the sake of giggles. Just letting the part of me that enjoys annoying bewildering people play for a bit. And though I don't mind that you don't mind (though saying 'damned' cat pictures and calling us lonely social rejects suggests otherwise), you could be a little more polite and, you know, ask us to stop next time? I would've been happy to oblige. All calling names will do is start a war.

Now, you didn't say anything [http://cache.gawker.com/assets/resources/2008/03/puppy.png] about other things that we could link to.

Well I have never commented on any of these, although tempted, mostly for fear of revealing my gender.

I would also like to point out how entertaining this thread was to read, even if it wasn?t about what it was almost about to be about in the first place... I think?

If I had an image of my cat live, I would put it up, I much prefer the older cats and it?s a rather excellent photograph.

Oh no, I know why he does it, I'm aware and I was there of the reason. I just don't understand why people suddenly jump on the bandwagon and start doing something they have no idea about.

Just like lynch mobs, you see?

And I wasn't being impolite, it was just an observation. I could've taken other routes. I was brisk because seriously, if you ask people to stop doing something they just keep doing it. Or they'll feel like doing it. It's better to cut it by the root.
a) As mentioned previously, because it's entertaining and, to a degree, fun. Especially in the middle of the night when your sense of logic is all screwy.

b) Only these lynch mobs are cute and fuzzy, not to mention safer.

c) I know that you could've said worse, but calling people lonely nutters in need of a therapist isn't exactly the nicest thing to say, particularly when it's pretty clear that we were just being goofy. So I guess it's less like a lynch mob and more like a meme.

Also, it's not an observation unless you've personally delved into the real lives of everyone who's jumped on the bandwagon, in which case I'm a counterexample already. No, the word you're looking for is opinion.
