Yes, its all your fault.

As punishment you have to make me a cake and dance for my entertainment.

While you may be a horrible person, (after all, who wears sweaters in March? It's March!) you are not responsible for the Nano's disappearance. How can you be responsible for something you didn't know existed?
People in Michigan wear sweaters in March.

If you didn't know it was there then no. You're not horrible. What you could do is suggest you could pay towards getting a new one for her, rather than just getting her one off your own back, those things are expensive and it isn't your fault it vanished.

No. If you didn't know then it's not your responsibility and you're not a horrible person. Don't be such a wet blanket. Instead, why don't the two of you retrace your steps and see if you can find it instead of whinging about it on a forum?

This is an opportunity!
Get one online, engrave it with her name, put it in pretty box, wrap in blue (because it's the new pink) tie, deliver, observe much happiness.

Then beg her for some food because you spend your lunchmoney on a stupid nano.
Indeed! I have more fun and more money when I just hum a song to myself anyway.

I wouldn't say so, but then again, this is a woman we're talking about here. They're working on a whole other level when it comes to blame and responsibility.

Yes.

If it isn't your fault it has to be hers, which can't ever happen.
So it is ALWAYS YOUR FAULT.
Exactly.
Are women monsters? That's the vibe I'm getting from what you're saying...
No, no, good heavens no. I love women! That sounded wrong, I mean most of my friends are women.

However, men and women generally have some very different ideas about things, especially blame and consequence. For example I once got blamed and totally cut out of a section of my peer group because one woman felt that I had ignored her.

This was news to me. xD
A lot of my friends are girls, too. Not sure why, though. My girlfriend is their leader as they plot my destruction.
Is there nothing men can do?!

DO NOT GO INTO THE BASEMENT[/B][/I].
I hear Max is still around there somewhere...

OT: it was an accident you lost it and her fault for not telling you/keeping track of her stuff. also I'm pretty sure it will turn up somewhere.
Should I ask who Max is or is he something similar to He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named-But-Is-Named?

I'm gonna say help to get a new one so you'll feel better, because a bunch of Anonymous posts won't help you feel better.

Also, welcome to the Escapist. You should come to the Basemnt, we have cookies and Tic-Tacs
I'm not looking for pity from anyone if that's what you thought. I probably could have worded my story a little better to make myself sound a bit less depressing, but it's what I thought at the time.

Thank you, good sir! Can I bring Doritos to the basement? Cookie-Dorito breath demands Tic-Tacs.

Just buy her another one you'll be fine.
Better yet, Buy her another one, and load it up with her favorite music.
She'll love you. Trust me.

Here's a story for anyone interested.

My girlfriend was borrowing my sweater yesterday during school and she put her iPod Nano in one of the pockets. She never told me that it was there when she gave the sweater back to me and I went home wearing it.
I come back to school today wearing the same sweater and she reaches into my pockets. She tells me that her iPod is gone when I had no clue that it was in there in the first place. I frantically looked and asked around anywhere it could've been, but no luck.
Now I feel like I'm a horrible person and I'm responsible for it going missing. She told me it was okay, but then I felt even worse....

So, my question is: AM I really a horrible person and AM I responsible for its disappearance?
You have 4 different options, i have ranked them in order of how appreciated you will be.

Heartfelt apology: You more than likely did this already, never mind, do it anyway, say you will continue to look for it.

Give her yours: This is a nice personal touch, this will be appreciated.

Give her yours AND track down all her songs and replace them: Very nice personal touch but she may not like the fact that she is taking something of yours.

Get her a replacement (and add songs if you want): she will love that for sure, engrave her name on the back, believe me girls love that sort of thing, you will be loved forever for the song thing i can guarentee you.

Get her a better one plus above: Depends how rich you are.

In all fairness, this is not your fault, unfortunately anything i say is unlikely to console you. See this as an oppertunity to prove to her that you dont leave any wrongs un righted or that you dont care about her loss of it, did she treasure it as a valuable possesion?

KEEP LOOKING, ive found ancient things before, if you find the old one in a while and tell her you kept looking then all will be well. Dont beat yourself up, if she cares about you the last thing she wants is for you to be unhappy, try and cheer up for her.

Ive been in this situation before, in the long run it wont be as bad as you think at all.

No you are not because the ipod was not yours and you had no previous knowledge of it being in your pocket therefore it is not your responsibility.
