Cooking, pretty rewarding and essential to your survival.
Funny... I opened this thread just to say that, and it's the first post.

Yes. Cooking is easily the greatest "hobby" (if you can call it that) of all time. It's not too expensive, it's easy to learn, and the rewards can be quite tasty. If you get good enough at it, it can even be a career.

If you're worried about it costing too much, just try to get good at something as simple as bread making. Water, yeast, salt, and flour are not expensive at all.

I glowstring.. It can be hard to get into just because its challenging to learn all the tricks that can be chained together. Its usually done to techno and trance music, but anything with a solid beat works.

That actually looks pretty cool.

I do Jiu Jutsu. It is a martial art, and it is really handy to have, even if you never need it.

You could also read a book
write a book
Go cycling
Build things (lego, or actuall things)
Listen to music
Learn to play an instrument
Do some exercise. I.E jogging, walking, stuff like that.

That's all i can think of right now, but i will add more if i can remember any.

I found myself in your situation not so long ago. But then two tings helped me:

The Rubik's Cube [http://xkcd.com/457/]
and Board Games

Just be sure that you have a gang of friends who are willing to play board games, or else you'll waste the money buying the games no one will play with you... (Tried this before)

But still less expensive then eating out every single night.

Play Sudoku, try to solve Rubik's Cube and write novels. Or maybe try to do something creative in Photoshop.

Musical Instrument
Sport or other physical activity, my suggestion: Parkour
Read one or more books.
Tabletop/pen-and-paper games.
Learn lockpicking (something I'm considering myself really)
Build Stuff! (whether it's an actual space shuttle built from scratch or a hamster cage built from matchstick boxes doesn't really matter.)

Well there is like...an almost endless list of things you could do, so some more details about your general interests would be nice.
Even still, I got a tip for you: if you like British humor (Monty Python, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, things like that) I can heavely recommend reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Yes I've read that you don't read a lot, but it's dámn worth it. It's a pretty big collection of books, about 37, and new one's are still being written. It's divided into a couple of sub-series, each about different things from the Discworld universe. If you'de like to start with them, I can recommend a reading guide like this:
(kinda small I know, but this one is the most updated I think)
I'm currently reading the Watch sub-series starting with Guards Guards! It's the series about Discworld's largest city (Ahnk-Morpork) and it's policeforce. Hilarious really.

Entomology.

It's really interesting and you can learn a lot from looking at the little critters we share the world with (who are arguably far more successful than we are). Get yourself a digital camera and you can get some really lovely snaps too.
Far more successful!? Pah! Who here has the nuke? /evil grin
And who survives the nuke? Roaches or humans? :D

Squash. Seriously one of the most fun sports ever. It's also insanely good for your health.
