After finally getting bored of Age of Empires 3, I decided it's time to look for other RTS games.

I don't have any money to buy any games yet, so does anyone care to recommend me some good RTS demos?

I've owned Age of Empires 3 and Company of Heroes, so those two are out.

Edit: M birthday is coming up soon, so recommend me some titles to beg/command ask my friends to get me.

Starcraft 2 is coming out on the 27th. The first game and it's expansion pack are relatively cheap now these days. Sorry I can't really help with demos though.

Get Men of War. It is one the VERY few unique RTS games out there. It is absolutely brilliant, game-changing, and you are not a responsible RTS gamer if you have not at least TRIED IT. There is a demo on steam. Try it. You won't regret it. Chances are, all other games mention (Age of Empires, Starcraft, DOW 1, Starcraft II, Starcraft II, MY GOT WHY WON'T BLIZZARD INNOVATE, Starcraft II) Will all be the same basic gameplay. Men of War doesn't follow that shit. It is unique and brilliant.

It is incredibly realistic in terms of health and all that, and has very challenging and fun missions. The voice acting is hilariously bad. The level of detail in this game is absurd:
- Every unit has an inventory
- You can Isometrically control each and every unit (Diablo style)
- Every unit needs to reload
- You can take an empty flamethrower pack, walk up to a tiger tank, and if you're quiet enough, EMPTY THE TANK"S FUEL INTO THE FLAMETHROWER

That should sound awesome. If it doesn't contact your doctor. If you liked Company of Heroes, you will LOVE this game.

You could always obtain your games through....unconventional means. Wink wink. A fantastic RTS that I've been playing a lot recently is Warhammer 40k Dawn of War. The first one.

I'd say wait for Starcraft 2 to come out, but if you can't do that, Dawn of War II and Chaos Rising is a good choice, although rather unorthodox in how they're played. Company of Heroes and Opposing Fronts, the first expansion pack, is also a very good choice: great game with a still very active community.

It's already been said but i'd recommend waiting for Starcraft 2 to come out. It's release date is very close and Blizzard knows how to make a good RTS.

Starcraft 1/2. Warcraft 1/2/3. Dawn of War 1/2.

Expansions included where applicable.

You could try Rise of Nations or Rise of Legends.

Or definitely Dawn of War, Dawn of War 2 Is just as good but just slightly different.

I also recommend any Command and Conquer game.

I've tried that. I did it enjoy it a lot and I liked how realistic the system is.

Would definitely agree on the 40K Dawn of War franchise as a whole, they are all great RTS games, the second Dawn of War I feel really adds something to the RTS genre. If not those then I would go for Starcraft 2. CnC 3 is another good one as is Emperor: Battle for Dune if you can find it.

Edit: Almost forgot the wonderful Battle for Middle Earth Franchise, shame about the online support for the second one though.

W....wait a minute... you said that you're still looking for an RTS? Why?
I haven't been able to properly enjoy any RTS since Men of War happened, besides the once that sidestep the 'okay, I shot him - why isn't he dead?' problem, like SOASE, and Supreme Commander.

I tried to play Company of Heroes a litle while back... it's like playing Oblivion after playing Morrowind.

Disagree about Men of War. The level of detail is impressive, but it screws the fun quite a lot for me. The fact I had to repair my tank each goddamn second cause the tracks kept coming off pissed me off.

I would go for Starcraft II since its out so soon (8 days I think).

Something tells me you're playing the game wrong if that's happening...
