I need fun, simple RPGs for a 9 year old. Yeah, you read that right.

You should get her Pokemon Blue. It's kind of an RPG.
it IS an Rpg, and maybe not Blue, but one of the newer ones. After all, at her age, vibrant colors and nice graphics are probably an important factor.
I know, but some people don't think so. The colors and the like are good but the newer ones are more complex then the older ones. So I mentioned one of the older more straight-forward, less complex games.
I agree with that vibrant colours and and graphics would be important, so I wouldn't go for the early black and white game boy games. I also agree that some of the later ones might be a little too complex as well. Maybe FireRed or LeafGreen would be best or, if you don't think it would be too complex and she owns a DS, SoulSilver or HeartGold. She might appreciate the funny pokewalker thing too.
Firered and Leafgreen are definitely good ones. Haven't played the remakes of gold/silver yet.

I always enjoyed Pokemon Yellow Version as a kid, if you can find it.

Fallout series or Morrowind/Oblivion
Are you retarded? Or are you trolling? Those are both undoubtedly good series, but they are hardly simple.

How can anyone in their right mind recommend them to a nine year old?

Moron.

OT: How about Viva Pinata? Pokemon is also a good choice.
Agh, you got me. I was trolling.
I dont even understand Oblivion! nd im (insert guessed age here) shes NINE! wheres meh troll swatter

Mario RPG a great first RPG (or any Paper Mario games like it), any Pokemon game, any Kingdom of Hearts game, Rogue Galaxy, Wild Arms 5, the original Lunar game (though there's anime nudity hidden in it, and even more in the sequel), after that Final Fantasy games are pretty basic (FFVII has a cross-dressing up game, heh), and I suppose any Disgaea game (the ultimate grinding games: level 10,000 the lowest max level you can reach in the series, and that's without reincarnating).

Fallout 3 is a fun filled game for the whole family. Kids love all the sweet loving characters, such as President Eden and those oh so silly Super Mutants! The whole family will enjoy the brightly colored post nuclear apocalypse setting, and the memorable fun locations like the Super Duper Mart! Fallout 3 is definitely the kid friendly RPG game that children of all ages will love.

Final Fantasy XII
Give her a Pokemon game.
Preferably one of the new ones for the DS.
I loved those when I was growing up!

Um, my 10 year old cousin played Oblivion on my PC.
Thats nice. What does that have to do with it being simple? Because it isn't.

If you are now going to say that you were addressing my post out of the context of the OP, that doesn't make any sense. Logically, any post with content directly relating to the OP should be considered in the context of the OP automatically, even if it is not explicitly stated.

Plus, the object of my ire up there, already admitted he was trolling, so the point is moot.

My list:

-Breath of Death VII: The Beginning (XBLA, a parody of RPGs, also tribute ro classic RPGs, it's only 80 MSP, aka $1, and is INCREDIBLY simple )

-Pokemon Soul Silver( DS, and the Pokewalker encourages exercise!)

-Fable (XBOX, available for download off Xbox Live MArketplace)

-Super MArio RPG: LEgend of the 7 Stars ( Simple RPG featuring MArio! Wii Virtual Console and SNES)

- Paper Mario (Simple RPG featuring MArio! Wii Virtual Console and N64)

- Paper MArio: The Thousand Year Door ( Slightly more complex, yet still simple RPG featuring MArio! Gamecube)

- Final Fantasy Tactics Advance ( Really complex compared to these other games, but I think it's pretty simple in the long run. Just pick a race, earn a class (Many come free, but if you know what you're doing, you can do thigns to unlock more, leaving things for her to discover! Gameboy Advance. Might want to look into the DS sequel too, although I haven't played it, personally)

- Final Fantasy: Chrystal Chronicles (Only game in this series I've played is My Life as a King and the original. Both are fun and simple. The original is an action-RPG with simple character advancement and equipment making, MLaaK is a city-building RPG in which you create and manage a town while sending out Adventuring parties to earn money and dungeon delve. Original is on Gamecube, MLaaK is WiiWare)

-Final Fantasy IV ( great beginner RPG, with a good story of classic swords and sorcery, fun if a bit harder than the GBA or SNES incarnations. The full, "complete" version is on Gameboy Advance, with a full 3d Remake on DS. A much easier and dumbed down version is on Wii Virtual Console and SNES under "Final Fantasy II")

I don't think kids are idiots either, so don't be afraid to throw in something a bit more complex, like Fire Emblem (Gamecube, Wii, GBA)

Yes it is. I rarely ever do things here that resemble trolling, so don't worry. I troll facebook, though and that is fun.

Super Mario RPG

Solid classic with already lovable characters and a simple story
This or paper mario (either 64, TYD or Super). They are all massive fun (I played through Paper Mario TYD only a few weeks ago.
