I can't believe we've reached page 3 without anyone pointing out "Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood". Its so perfect, it's BioWare, its so simple as to be insulting and has lots of bright, colourful characters. Its basically "my first RPG".

Blue Dragon.

It's both fun and child friendly.

Pokemon.

Very, very deep RPG's that are insanely easy to get into.

And there is plenty of grinding.

Long story short my sister became a farmville nut, and when I introduced her to a couple casual games but she felt they were lacking grind. I need a few game ideas.

She likes:
-Farmville
-Animal Crossing
-Dress-up Games

Dislikes:
-Anything overly complex

I was thinking something along the lines of an old school SNES game. Maybe Earthbound or FFIII, but I felt those might be a little too deep(for lack of a better term).
Final Fantasy X is really simple to master if she can cope with all the cutscenes.

-KOTOR 2: it might be alittle coplex, i don't know, but it is a classic. Design your player (avalible party members differ with gender of player character. As you go, you'll level your abilities to fit your play style. Pick up and play, not the easiest, but the story and expierence are amazing
Nine is too young for that kind of disappointment. I never recovered.

Thats nice. What does that have to do with it being simple? Because it isn't.
It was actually voted "Escapist Magazine's simplest game of all time" by the readers. Just because it's hard for you is no reason to be upset. Just lower the difficulty and turn tips on.

If you have a SNES, get her Earthbound. She will love it. AN RPG about other 9 year olds saving the world. She should be able to identify with it pretty easily.

my first thought was pokemon.

also there is an online mmorpg called "free realms" its subscription cost is 5 dollars a month I believe. the game is free to play but im not sure how much content is available without subscription. You can set up an account for her and play with the parental controls such as turning off the chat feature. The story is simple but fun. The last time I was played there were 8 or so classes that were free to play with a handful more that required a subscription. I could spend all day talking up the game but it would be easier for you to just check it out yourself.

that link will give you a general idea of what its like, click around to see more or just play yourself.

edit: also dragon quest rocket slime is a fun rpg type game.

Fallout series or Morrowind/Oblivion
Are you retarded? Or are you trolling? Those are both undoubtedly good series, but they are hardly simple.

How can anyone in their right mind recommend them to a nine year old?

Moron.

OT: How about Viva Pinata? Pokemon is also a good choice.
I was playing Master of Orion when I was ten, so don't knock what kids are capable of.

Super Mario RPG sounds like it'd be best for the kid. If she likes grindy stuff, you may want to check the free MMO scene. There are kid oriented ones out now she may like. There's a bunch listed in the latest issue of PC Gamer (Deus Ex: Human Revolution cover issue) along with info about them.
