There's been a lot of good additions (and some the breach my requirements that I won't be listening to because... they breach my requirements). :) You've all given me some great resources! Even if some of you posted 10 minute+ songs, your heart was in the right place. :)

Try this it is very Shinto/ Japanese but it could be cut down

Or this from Avatar the last Airbender (not the movie, god no) however the drums might be too heavy.

You should definitley check out Johan Johannsson

A bit long for what you want but I'd really recommend taking the time to edit out a section, some of his stuff would probably suit your project very well, 3:20 might be worth noting

Again, a bit long, but worth a look

try adagio for strings by samuel barber
I would agree with you there, but that's been over-killed so hard in pseudo-emotionally deep videos. Ruined something great, to me at least.

I'd go for Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkle, it's 5 minutes but most of the time when a song is used in other media, they don't play from the beginning, and there's plenty of places to cut out. Also in that vein, Mad World by Gary Jules
same kind of thing happened to madworld by gary jules

Replying to the top contenders here. :) My search isn't over, but I thought I'd check back.

try this on for size

the album versions a minute shorter.
I couldn't find any place to get this soundtrack or song. :( My usual methods of borrowing from youtube aren't working either. But otherwise this was one of the better suggestions in the thread.

Then how about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOMBzI66LJU ?
Incredible suggestions! That fits the criteria rather perfectly! Thank you for the suggestion. (Don't stop with the suggestions, everyone else. :) )
I thought this was it, the perfect fit. And it would be too, if it weren't for the rain track in the background. :(

got some for you :

-Sigur Ros
-Youkoso! NI NHK soundtracks (trust me they are awesome and lots of instrumentals) the bands name is Pearl Kyoudai

hope this helps :)
This is a great pick. I'm putting it in the pile just because it is so melancholic but different from the other (working) suggestions. :)
I still don't know if I want to use this one. A great suggestion, and still my eyes flick back to it.

Hans Zimmerman always wins, people.

This one is technically five minutes long, but the music dips and peaks so much that it can easily be chopped up to fit your needs. You could literally cut it off at 2:30.
That might actually work, in a round about sort of way.
