A long time ago I was playing steam after purchasing the first humble bundle. I had heard of steam and wanted to check it out and this seemed to be the best bet. I had a blast. Then my internet went out and Steam game me some BS message about 'connect to the internet to play your games". So I figured "whatever, I'll continue to play when my internet gets fixed."
Later that week I attempted to play on my steam account again (internet was fixed at this point)
The client game me some line about my internet not being compatable with the client. So I poked around and eventually gave up.
Fast forward a few years to now. I was still getting updates about humble bundles and see a Civilization bundle. Since I had planned on getting and playing these games, 16 dollars for most of them didn't seem so bad. I re-installed steam, having completely forgot about the problem. I had moved and am with a completely different provider (that's faster, as well) and was reinstalling the first humble bundle I had, along with Civ 5. Then the downloads stop. They tell me an update is required. I check, and my client is up to date. So I try restarting it. Then I get the same message. "your internet is not compatible with our client."
TL;DR
Seems my internet isn't compatible with Steam. Maybe it's just me.
EDIT: The exact error was "Steam Could Not Connect To Steam Network
This Could Be Due To A Problem With Your Internet Connection or With The Steam Network. Please visit Steampowered.com for more info."
The problem was rouge processes.
