I give everyone that look all the time, because I'm a pretentious bastard.
Or at least I like people to think I am.

This thread is just asking if you ever had an experience where you knew more/better then someone who was talking about a certain subject?

For example, I'm a DJ at an Oldies station, so I hear lots of songs from the 80s, 70s, 60's, and sometimes even the 50s (their few but most are pretty good). I notice that while a few are quiet excellent in their own rights, there are many that have sexual innuendos and meanings in them. Also, it seems I'll play for 10 minutes straight songs that are nothing else but about Some Girl and how Great she is, how the singer wants to Hold Her All Night, Love Her All Day, etc.
I find this funny, because many of the older and middle age gents and madams I know will usually complain about how today's music is all about sex and how everyone is the same thing but with a different singer. When they do say this, I just simply smile and shake my head at people's misconceptions.

So, dear Escapist Community, have you ever had a time when you just laughed at someone's lack of knowledge/misconceptions? Or did you do something more then just laugh?
Actually, I find I know much more about politics, the wars of recent history, and books (like, really really long books :p) than anyone I know.
I doubt you do, but I bet you are more willing to bore others with your opinions!

Love the 'really, really long books'! Makes you sound about 12!
Whats with the random, sudden hostility?

Makes you sound like an angsty pre pubeasent!

It's amazing the kind of stuff parents will make up and tell their kids when they're at the zoo.

"Mommy, what's that?" "It's a dog." It's a goat with horns and hooves and there's a sign right next to you that says so! If you don't know what something is and you're too lazy to read, just ask the zookeeper who is standing right there.

It ran out of money because it was too successful. It worked better than they thought it did. Why is this so hard to understand?

I kid, well, not really. But I seem to see that most people hate on our government or politics when they really have no idea what they are talking about.

They just spew whatever Rush or Keith told them the day before without actually looking into the matter.

It probably makes me come off as arrogant, but I prefer to bring people up to my level.
I'll spend an hour explaining something completely trivial to a person I barely know, in the hopes they get it right next time, in case it's with someone less understanding than me.

But if it's something opinion-based: taste in music, politics, religion, I just go with the flow. As punk/ska band Area 7 puts it:
That man is not the same as you
But what he sees can be just as true

I "hate" on our government for many reasons.

And I don't listen to either of those two clowns anyway. I do my own research.

Another thing I'd like to say, is that I didn't say it was bad or good. I'm fairly neutral on the whole Cash for Clunkers debacle since there are plenty of other things to be upset with him about.

I know you used your little scapegoat of "I kid", but don't make such rash generalizations about another poster or well, anyone really.

When I hear people talking as they walk by, sometimes I want to correct them because what they think is completely wrong. I never butt in, though. I let them figure out what the truth is.
What do you want to correct? A view on politics, religion, gaming? Or just general stupidity?
Facts or absolutes, misconceptions (2012 is NOT the end of the world!), and standpoints on things which many people would consider wrong or distasteful.
What? But I cancelled all my appointments after 20th December! And I have a shooting spree planned and everything!

Did you ever play Fallout 3? Because there's this song about how Pete just rolled into town...

Internet Kraken. He said that the current pope did not know anything about the holocaust.

He was born and raised in Germany, fuck, he was a hitler youth for christ's sake. Someone probably mentioned it to him at some point is all I'm saying.

before some religious fanatic goes crazy on me I am in no way suggesting he had anything to with it, just that he certainly knows about it at this point.

Every time I hear someone shoot off about how great Obama is, and how much he has done for our country.

When in all honesty, he has done fuck all of nothing.

He DID have a tea party with the queen though!
hes trying to get u free health care ffs

anyway its a shame i wasnt there but in an a level histoy class a boy retook the first year and the teacher said, 'what can you tell me about the cold war' to which he replied 'it was fought in winter'

ow and on an english essay about rudyard kipling (author of hyaenas) some guy did an introduction going like this 'mr kipling sells cakes'. man that was funny.

another person was doing there R.E. gcse and wrote for every question 'i dont believe in god' and he got marks for it. (not arguing about gods existence/non existence but the fact that you write what ur supposed to for marks)

anyway i usually ignore them as it reduces there liking of you for showing them up and gets you nowere.
