Apparently some strict anti-immigrant legislation was passed in Arizona recently and there's murmurs that it could come to violence. At least, according to CNN. And they have that 24-hour News Network habit of saying stupid hyperbolic things. The stuff you saw was probably not even related.

Anyway, seeing three military vehicles doesn't indicate a state of open conflict. I'm tempted to say something like "stop playing MW2 and watch the damn news".

However, recently I saw an APC tank, along with a military grade hummer driving down the road. And just now as I walked outside I saw a stealth bomber fly over my house! Are the russians finally invading!

Umm discussion, right...have any of you guys seen an increase in the military personel in your city. Or do you think im just being paranoid

We get one of those big military cargo planes flying over us every few weeks. That's about it.

There's actually an M1 Abrams tank factory south of here in the city I was born in. We used to get trains full of tanks on them coming through here.

You're probably not invaded, but I know what it's like. Sometimes these fighter jets fly over my house quite overzealous five times a day! And the noise that makes. I always think the germans are invading.

Also, everytime the air raid siren sounds I have to remind myself wether it's 12 o'clock and the first monday of the month. If it isn't, it's time to panic. Does anyone elses country do that? Monthly air raid siren checks?

But, I guess it's illogical to assume that too much commotion would occur from recent events. After all, there have been more racist things to happen in the world and not suffer backlash.

But isn't that the place where everyone is bitching because America is enacting ID-requirement laws (that virtually every other country in the world has yet somehow it's different because it's bloody America)?

(PS: I don't get how the BBC news outright compare the Arizona police force with the Gestapo (though they were quoting a cardinal) when our own police have had these same powers since the 1907.)

I live within fifteen miles of three National Guard armories. it's a weird Twilight Zone-esque place where approximately one weekend a month, there is no alcohol in any of the bars within a 40 mile radius of my house.

And I live on a road considered by most to be the best way to get from the armory in the north to the Armory to the west, so I get to see lots of anti-tank shit go by.

There's also a Forward Air Control Naval Air Station and bombing range twenty miles north-west of me. Overall pretty awesome.

And the Sheriff's Office SWAT course is nearby. They've got some nifty gear. I've considered taking hostages just to see what all they have.

Could you explain what is so awful about these new laws?

Because in my country (UK) the police have always had the power to detain people they think are in the country illegally, and legal immigrants are required to have papers at hand or be able to provide them. And it makes a lot of sense as if borders are porous and unenforced then what is the point in having countries anyway? The nature of a country would cease to exist.

Racial profiling sucks but it's one part of profiling that we get all the time. As a male I get profiled as a potential paedophile, as a young person I get profiled as a potential trouble making "yob", hell, if I wear cargo pants in a shop I get profiled as a shoplifter. And of course in an airport we're all treated like terrorists with virtual strip searches and online we are profiled by the cogs of capitalism.
