The CM901 is a new rifle Colt making for the US Army that is being tested now.

It is a multi-caliber, change on the fly, rifle. Multiple, easy too change barrels, 7.62 or 5.56 ammo.

I could kick down the door with the 10.3-inch barrel, 5.56 ammo in the chamber. What is this? the enemy is 600m away coming in!! Lets switch too the 16-inch barrel, 7.62 ammo, and reach out to touch someone.

I want this Rifle, I need this Rifle. I am getting all tingly just thinking about this Rifle.

Note: (I want discussion on new weapons, how sweet old weapons are, ect. I do not care if you don't like guns, I do, and I will not talk about gun rights in this thread. I want to talk about my BOOM STICKS. [/rant])

Looks like an excellent piece, actually...

I'm more of a knife nut myself, though.

I'm no fan of guns, however if I had the option I would get a fraking portal gun!
or a M134 Minigun, they are neat as well.

Knifes are good within twenty feet. I am teaching myself to use a sword. but I always like to be half a click away when I greet someone

I always saw Miniguns as a wast of ammo. Yaa, you just took 300 rounds to cut your enemy in half now what about the enemy sniper outside of your range, that you can not put accurate fire on?

I am not even that big of fan of the SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon), I do see the tactical advantage of having a no-mans land were these weapons are aimed but it just seems like over-kill.

I prefer quick and quiet. That said, I'll take a decent M21 scoped rifle and I'll be happy.

I don't know why but I love the Dragunov SVD, beautiful Russian engineering, easily mass produced cheaply, easy to use for a Sniper Rifle and still not entirely outdated. Also looks so damn kickass!

I do admit, there is something to be said for stealth. But I also like the idea of the enemy falling before the hear the shot (I do love supersonic rounds).

Ah well, I am more of a rogue myself actually. Always found the sniper far more apeeling than the heavy. But if you have a minigun rigged to, oh lets say: your front door. and it fires if some jackass tries to break it open, that would be a sadistic gory mess of fun and vengance.
but I do share your conclusion that snipers are far more tactical and not to mention far more sexy that heavies.

If I ever come into possession of a Winchester '94, then my life will be complete. I will not rest till I own one. Theyre probably common as muck in the USA, but sadly I doubt that in the UK.

Also, I'm a shotgun nut, and I love this beast the the British Army have started using, very similar to the M1014 I think, but shown below in the hands of Brit soldiers with an EoTech, a folding front grip and a 8+1 magazine :D

SAW's probably seem like overkill, but I think their main purpose is for supressive fire, they send that much lead downrange to keep the enemies head down.

Man when I read your description I imagined it having both barrels at the same time, then one button just sort of spins them around to change. The reality seemed kind of lame in comparison. :(

Glad that it's keeping the M16/M4 aesthetic though, love that look for a gun.

This is true, snipers are more strategic and automatic weapons are more tactical. (I hope I used strategic and tactical right, I sometimes mix those two up).

Strategic: large scale. Tactical: small scale.

So do I, the M4 just feels so 'right' in ones hands. Like it is part of your body.

Lame. It's versatile and light. Super. Give me something that is not a pain in the ass to keep clean and works regardless of conditions. Sorry, but they lost me when they brought up the cleanliness issues. If it's being a pain in the ass in field tests, you can be guaranteed that they will be a pain in the ass during operations, and I think our troops have enough on their plates w/o worrying about their weapons barfing in a firefight.

Wouldn't know, I'm English. I'm also jealous of you now. :p
