I'm no fan of guns, however if I had the option I would get a fraking portal gun!
or a M134 Minigun, they are neat as well.
I always saw Miniguns as a wast of ammo. Yaa, you just took 300 rounds to cut your enemy in half now what about the enemy sniper outside of your range, that you can not put accurate fire on?

I am not even that big of fan of the SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon), I do see the tactical advantage of having a no-mans land were these weapons are aimed but it just seems like over-kill.
Ah well, I am more of a rogue myself actually. Always found the sniper far more apeeling than the heavy. But if you have a minigun rigged to, oh lets say: your front door. and it fires if some jackass tries to break it open, that would be a sadistic gory mess of fun and vengance.
but I do share your conclusion that snipers are far more tactical and not to mention far more sexy that heavies.
This is true, snipers are more strategic and automatic weapons are more tactical. (I hope I used strategic and tactical right, I sometimes mix those two up).
Strategic: large scale. Tactical: small scale.
So I did not mix them up good. Thank you

American rifles are usually good on the shooting range, but when in warzones the US soldiers prefer trophy AKs... Or so I heard.

Man when I read your description I imagined it having both barrels at the same time, then one button just sort of spins them around to change. The reality seemed kind of lame in comparison. :(

Glad that it's keeping the M16/M4 aesthetic though, love that look for a gun.
So do I, the M4 just feels so 'right' in ones hands. Like it is part of your body.
Wouldn't know, I'm English. I'm also jealous of you now. :p
If on holiday sometime, try to go too Nevada. They have some of the best gun ranges in the world. Horseback ranges, long-range ranges, you name it it is probably legal in Nevada. Almost makes me wish I lived there.

I believe that's a durability issue. You can damned near run over an AK and, so long as the firing pin's still in place, it'll fire just fine.

Guns are fun. Theyre fun to fire, you can hunt with them, have target competitions with them, all sorts. Guns are a hobby, like fishing or tinkering with cars, hence some people's "fixation" :D

Probably bollocks, I doubt their superiours would let them use AKs. They sound like enemy fire, and the US army wont issue it's men with the riht ammo for them.

Lame. It's versatile and light. Super. Give me something that is not a pain in the ass to keep clean and works regardless of conditions. Sorry, but they lost me when they brought up the cleanliness issues. If it's being a pain in the ass in field tests, you can be guaranteed that they will be a pain in the ass during operations, and I think our troops have enough on their plates w/o worrying about their weapons barfing in a firefight.
From the article
A hot topic in the forthcoming competition revolves around the operating system. Some prefer a piston, which reduces the number of moving parts and provides better stability. But there is more metal on metal, which can accelerate fatigue. Others opt for a gas-impingement system, which is far smoother in operation and has fewer malfunctions because heat and carbon deposits are reduced. But this system requires a lot more elbow grease to get it, and keep it, clean.

Colt's solution is a hybrid that offers "the best of both worlds," according to Battaglini. The CM901 can use either a piston or gas-impingement system, but this third alternative uses a gas tube on the front and a piston that is dropped into the upper receiver with a rod running back to the bolt carrier. The result is better accuracy without all the cleaning.
It sound like it will implement a new system to cut down on the cleaning.

As much as I like gunning down the Baddie of the Week, real guns make me nervous because - well, they're literally killing machines.

Although if I could pick a free gun, I most certainly wouldn't say no. I'd say, "One of those sweet-ass oldfashioned Winchester hunting rifles please."

this is true. You can do anything to that weapon and it will still fire.

I still like the M16/M4 because it is more accurate and 'feels' (I do not know how to describe the feeling) better.

The CM901 is a new rifle Colt making for the US Army that is being tested now.

It is a multi-caliber, change on the fly, rifle. Multiple, easy too change barrels, 7.62 or 5.56 ammo.

I could kick down the door with the 10.3-inch barrel, 5.56 ammo in the chamber. What is this? the enemy is 600m away coming in!! Lets switch too the 16-inch barrel, 7.62 ammo, and reach out to touch someone.

I want this Rifle, I need this Rifle. I am getting all tingly just thinking about this Rifle.

Note: (I want discussion on new weapons, how sweet old weapons are, ect. I do not care if you don't like guns, I do, and I will not talk about gun rights in this thread. I want to talk about my BOOM STICKS. [/rant])
I can see that going so wrong...

I'm a Lee-Enfield fan (Jungle Carbine). Then again, the family are enthusiasts, so we get together over a cuppa and shoot eat other. Not really

I know what you mean by that. There's a reason why I don't like most guns. That said, you give me a decent compound bow, knife set, or Welsh longbow and I'm happy.

I'd go for a Berretta Model 70s. 22.Long rifle and once favored by the Mossad. A PS90 would make for great home defense what with it's size and large magazines.

Sure, that all sounds good, but the problem is that we have psychos saying things like "kick down the door" and "reach out and touch [the enemy]".

If he is currently living in a place that has a conflict on its home turf, it is completely understandable. However, people living in America or most parts of Europe who have serious firearms also need a serious reality check... Probably because:

A: They've never lost a friend or loved one from a firearm. (Don't worry, neither have most people.) But yeah, trust me, this will seriously knock your love of unnecessarily dangerous weapons down a peg.

B: They've never actually had a gun pointed at them. Again, neither have most people. But I used to keep a pistol in my house. Then one day, my sister went fucking nuts when I wouldn't give her money for drugs, and I woke up looking down the barrel. Luckily she had no fucking clue how to use it or I might have died. Needless to say, I grew up, and have never needed a weapon since.

C: They're from South-East America. I moved to Virginia for a little while for school and was actually really scared about their opinions of guns (and honestly, the still blatant racism, but that's another story). Every single person there freaked out when I said guns were stupid. There were literally dozens of 18-20 year olds discussing how good there favorite guns would be at killing people and it made me fucking sick. It's must be something in the water there, or maybe they're just trolling the states to the north or something. Seriously though, again this is another story, but take down the damn confederate flag already.

But yeah, I'm all for having a pistol or something to protect yourself from robbers/murderers, or a hunting weapon, but when you start talking about the coordinated killing of people en masse, either join the military or seek serious mental help.

But why guns? I think something that takes more skill to use would get more recognition like bow an arrows.
You think it doenst take skill to hit distant targets with a rifle? Or to dust a clay pigeon with a shotgun?

And why should a hobby need to require skill anyway. Hobbies are for fun.

Op said he didnt want this thread to be about gun control or why people dont like guns, so I'm going to respect his wishes and decline to talk any further on the subject, Gun control threads are always exercises in futility anyways.

Well I know who to call if civilization collapsible. Ammo will run out but we can always make more bows and arrows.

Can you at least tell me why someone would want a gun that is made for offensively killing multiple people?

EDIT: I meant a civilian, not "someone".
