Recently my wife and I have started watching some Anime like Samurai Champloo, Samurai X, Corpse Princess, and a few others. While we enjoy these, we want to broaden our horizon. So if anybody knows of some good Anime to check out (and I'm sure you'll do) let us know. Thanx.

Death Note is a good start. And I don't think anime is a proper noun.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan (This whole series is available on Hulu for free, 24 episodes). This one is simply awesome all around. My favorite mech/action anime.

Durarara -- This one is a great suspense/drama/action/mystery anime with a dash of fantasy to bring out the flavor. It takes place in Ikebukuro Japan, and the characters are all very colorful and interesting. This one is 25 episodes long. This one is not on Hulu, but it's fairly popular and not hard to find.

And, if you don't mind some romance with your action and drama, Romeo x Juliet is a very well executed anime adaptation of the story. The changes to the story are quite major, but it sticks true to the general feel of the story. And the opening song is GORGEOUS. This one, like the first, is available on Hulu in its entirety, 24 episodes.

Trigun, if you like Westerns. Do you like Westerns?

Just tell me what genre of movie you like, and I'll give a suggestion or two.

Fullmetal Alchemist. Yeah, most other things will seem pretty bland in comparison afterwards, but it really is a great start.

You now there are like a million of these threads right?

OT: Death note is great, well before the last 13 ruined it

My advice: DON'T GET INTO ANIME! That rabbit hole goes deeeeeep, and will likely cost you your sanity.

I started with Death Note and that was pretty much what got me into all kinds of anime.

Although Full Metal Alchemist is also a really good and solid start (the original or the remake).

Baccano, Natsume's Book of Friends, Hetalia, and Code Geass are some good ones.
Also Spice and Wolf.

I loved F-Zero Falcon Densetsu. It's really cheesy, but besides that, its freaking awesome! I loved every episode.

Shakugan no Shana was good as well.

oh geez, where to start?
Action/comedy: Naruto, fairy tail, highschool of the dead, linebarrels of iron, tengen toppa gurren laggan, Occult academy, Black Lagoon, Fullmetal Alchemist (original/brotherhood)
Drama: Death Note
Romance: Love Hina (i'm a little embarrassed by that one)

Some of these are Japanese only so far so go here, http://www.animefreak.tv/, to watch them.

I suggest that you also read the manga of all of these. Most of these have much more mature themes and the manga of Highschool of the Dead has some nudity. You can find all manga scans for free here http://www.mangareader.net/, but support the creators by buying the actual books when they come out. Manga Reader also has a pretty good search by genre function if you get bored.

Last thing, try watching some Miazaki movies like Castle in the Sky or Princess Monoke. They are exceptionally good. Another one that was really good was Summer Wars (not by Miazaki).

Hope this helps!

First of all, trust no-one. People give suggestions based on who they are, not on the intended recipient. In our defense, you aren't giving us a lot to work with.

Anyway, watch Ghost in the Shell (the 1995 film), then the first season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Kino's Journey and Haibane Renmei are good too.

Fullmetal Alchemist is popular, I loved it when I watched it quite a few years ago, so it may be a good choice.

Other than that, Azumanga Daioh is a good gateway for slice-of-life shows (or is K-ON! more effective now? I can never tell, been high on these shows for five years and counting).

[sub]Also, do a quick search for the words "anime" and "recommend" in the forums. You'll notice that you are by no means the first to ask this question. Science![/sub]

damnit, now i wanna watch anime.

ok, Before you watch any more anime, go and watch Lucky star. from what i can tell it is the absolute BASELINE for any anime lovers, (go konata)

ok, after that, go ahead, watch anything, i can guarantee that after that allmost everything will make sence

then go watch Ika musume (AKA: squid girl) hilarious stuff

the first Full metal alchemist is allright but towards the end is just an endless slew of fillers, nothing is really happening, Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood is much better.

infact, screw it, go and watch everything by BONES, you wont regret it

Ok so that list is now:

Lucky star
Squid girl
Everything by BONES (link for reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bones_(studio))
(thats like FMA, FMAB, Soul eater, Eureka 7, Xam'd etc)

and also, if i didnt mention Gintama, a friend of mine would murder me violently. with a cheese grater and vinegar (he freaking loves that anime)

then there is Zero no tsukaima (AKA the familiar of zero) funny, needs another season though

Foolycooly, oh god, when it comes to the most random anime, THIS is it

Ergo proxy is good if you want a more dark, slow anime that you need to watch more than once to fully understand

some of the newer animes are good, but most haven't been dubbed, these are like Highschool of the dead and kore wa zombie desu ka?

also, i found that avoiding Neon genesis like the plague is a very good idea, it is hazardous to your mental health, especially when it doesn't end

TL;DR:

Lucky star
squid girl
anything by BONES
the familiar of zero
Fooly cooly
Ergo proxy
HIghscool of the dead
Kore wa zombie desu ka?

In that order,

OPTIONAL:
gintama (dont kill me!)

(ps, this is a guide, going through as many genre's as i can think of,(hey! its early) you dont need to do Gintama because it is like OVER 9000 episodes in length (205+ last count)

Probably isn't your taste but I enjoyed the Ghost in the Shell series. One of the only animes I ever really watched though.
