If the award had been undeserved then yeah, you may be able to trot out this bullshit argument, but it wasn't. She won on her merits, not her race.Hopeless Bastard said:You only have to give one token award to stave off accusations of racism. Best actress was the easiest one, comparatively.
And in most years there isn't a black winner of an oscar, not a major one anyway. Take last year, none of the major winners were black. In fact in the major categories there were only two black nominees. And the year before that only one black person was nominated and none won, yet no one cried racism. You can't pass off every black achievement as being the work of liberal guilt on the part of white folks; Precious was a very good film, Monique was very good in it and deserved her award partly because the year was otherwise lacking in outstanding performances and partly because she herself was very, very good.
Oh and FYI, she won best supporting actress not best actress.
I do like how at the end there, you pretty much just repeated what I've been saying. Female performances last year were extremely weak. Her competition was Penelope fucking cruz! It was the easiest affirmative action award they've ever had to give.
Of course, its better than giving another award the patron saint of winning multiple oscars for playing the same fucking character, denzel washington.
and I'm sleep deprived. I keep dropping the "supporting" accidentally.
Wow so someone who clearly didn't watch the film (since im gleaning that you have some kind of thing against black people) commenting on how her performance didn't deserve to win?
The logic coming from you is awesome
