I wouldnt hit her, but id grab her shoulders shake her till she stopped. If she doesnt stop then id run away. Not because im scared but cause I dont want to go to jail and so it would be best to leave before i get tempted to backhand her.

No, because I would be caught too unaware to react. I would stand there dumbfounded no matter what gender.
I avoid violence with the opposite sex as much as possible, but if a stranger, regardless of sex, walked up to me and tried to punch, I'd beat their dumb ass. No questions, if you try to hurt me, I'm going to try and hurt you right back, enough so that you'll think twice about trying to continue fighting. Then I'd get the fuck out of there.

I dunno, I think I'd just ask her why she dd that. Calmly, no cursing. I'm really hard to piss off because I've spent years working on my self-control, so I believe I could manage a reasonable response.
If she tried it again, I'd just block the punch and continue to try to find out what was going on. Like I said, hard to piss off. I've gotten several people to back down just by continuing to talk to them in a calm, clear manner. You'd be surprised.
Also, aimed at everyone saying they'd scream "Why the **** did you do that!?" That wouldn't help anything. Actually, it would increase the likelihood she'd come at you again. Just a note.

Hmm... knowing me I would probably look her in the eye and say "I might have deserved that." If nothing else, it will probably cause them to take a moment to figure out what I was talking about.
