I'd walk around for about an hour until I find something that I might be useful.
If I can't find anything useful while walking around, I'll probably just break into my neighbor's house and take EVERYTHING!

I'd be a settler. I don't like the idea of travelling when there are a million things out in the wastes that want to tear your entrails out.
It makes for a fun game, but a shitty realistic life.

The next time you turn on Fallout, take a walk across the Wasteland. See that charred and limbless corpse with a 10mm pistol lying several feet away from it? That'd be me.

I'd be a settler most likely. I even have a set of rules for surviving in this situation.
1. Keep walking until you find a settlement.
2. If the settlement has walls stay there.
3. If you have valuables head to a store.
4. If they have weapons trade for them.
5. If there are no walls keep on walking until you find one that does.
I'd still be likely to die following these rules but at least they aim for survival.
As a settler I'd probably end up having crazy ideas of creating a safe road system to help travelers get from one settlement to another without having as much of a chance of dying but never actually living to see my idea become reality.
