If Jesus hated Christmas, would you still celebrate it?

Wouldn't give a shit, Christmas is about food and presents and sleeping and drinking and going slightly crazy from spending so much time with your family.

Lets just say that what some guy called Jesus allegedly liked or didn't like has not even once in my life been a factor in any decision I have ever made, and is very unlikely to ever become one.
Yes, let's say this twice.

I'd be asking jesus a lot more than his opinion on christmas

like OH MY GOD WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!? and IS IT ALL TRUE!!??
$10 say he already made a second coming, but came in the 60s and got beaten the fuck up by the cops XD

OT: yeah I would
my family doesn't celebrate it because of religious reasons but rather because we spend time together, eat fuckloads of meat and drink fuckloads of champagne while shooting fireworks

ah good times

I have never seen christmas as the holiest time of the year (even as a child) I see it more as:

-spending time with my psychotic family members (not actually psychotic)
-apreciating people you don't always show it to either with gifts or bringing them jello shots
-getting so drunk at your job's holiday that you can't even remember but seems like everyone does

my extended family is catholic. The most religious thing that happens to me is eating christ cakes that my grandmum got from the priest at her local church and by christcakes I mean these:

If Jesus Christ came to Earth (proving that Christians were actually right), decided that he didn't want to bring about the apocalypse, and banned Christmas, I'd listen to him, I can live without free stuff. I would then hide in terror as he showed everyone who flipped him off why Jewish people were scared of God.

Please, if he walked around trying to get everyone to stop celebrating he'd be back up on the cross before he finished with a single city.

Actually Jesus was never really involved with Christmas to begin with, I'm like 95% his birthday is never actually mentioned in the Bible.

Christmas was one of those Winter Festivals where the Church said, "You guys convert, and with a few exceptions, you can keep this holiday, we'll just repurpose it"

So if Jesus came back, he probably would hate Christmas, and I would be all like "Whatever bro, I got Egg Nog!!!!!"
His birthday kind of was... but it puts it in between the end of March to the beginning of May (usually everyone would agree to end of March-mid April).... The Catholic church just stuck Christmas on the winter solstice because the Romans had a huge feast and celebration then before they converted... and a great way to piss people off would be to change religion and get rid of one of the biggest festivals ever, so they stuck it there.

Also.. EGGNOG! HOW I LOVE YOU SO!!!!!!

Well, considering Christmas is supposed to be a celebration of Jesus's birth and by most historical accounts his birthday was actually around spring-time, yeah he probably doesn't like it very much that we're getting the day wrong.

Well, I don't celebrate it for religious reasons, so his opinion on the matter wouldn't impact my celebration. For me, it's about being with your loved ones and showing your appreciation for what they add to your life. All the cheesy, cornball, Hallmark stuff about peace on earth/goodwill toward men? Yep, that's me at Christmas. It's my time for grand gestures of love and affection, for people who probably don't even realize they mean a lot to me.

Oh, and cookies. Lots of homemade cookies.

If Jesus hates what I am doing he can come round my house and tell me. I'm not going to bother praying or looking within, because nothing happens to me. I'm not gonna ask before I do everything it should really come from him.

This could probably be applied to most of the things I do on a daily basis like Blaspheming, wanking, coveting my friends shoes and beating women who dare to speak in church! Just joking the last part is just fine.

Christmas was a "pagan" festival before the church came and forced Christianity on people. They said xmas was ok but it was to be used to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ (our saviour and king of kings). They also corrupted a lot of other "pagan" symbols, such as Pan the earth god a cheery little bro with goat legs and horns. The church decided to say that this was what Satan looked like, when before he had been a fallen angel or an evil spirit or temptation or a c*nt (take your pick). Also the Easter rabbit also has some significance here but he is more an embodiment of the capitalistic desire to sell Chocolate Eggs to fat women, not really a church thing but still a recycled pagan symbol.

But yes if Jesus really hates Christmas I will be there tearing down the false Christmas tree idols, and throwing the corrupted fake Santa priests from their false temple grotto's. If anyone wants to join me thats cool I hear that the more infidel blood we spill the less time we have to spend in purgatory.

Christmas as celebrated has nil to do with Jesus to begin with, at least in America. So Hell yeah, I would celebrate it as the bastion of commercial greed it is by trampling a few people and maybe soccer kicking a grandma.

well considering christmas is on the winter equinox and that's a pagan thing... i think he'd actually hate it.
But christmas should be about family, love, and blah blah blah...

Man, eff Jesus. Kris Kringle's my main man. The fat fuck has the illest parties, yo.

Ahem.

Christmas has as much to do with Jesus Christ as the Fourth of July has to do with the Easter bunny. Christmas, as an initially pagan holiday, began as both the pagan traditions surrounding Yuletide and as the Roman period of the year called the Saturnalia. I'm pretty sure it was Emperor Constantine who decided to more or less mash the two of 'em together, along with a choice few early Christian elements.

The King's Feast tradition has mostly fallen out of style, but some people still stick beans or little plastic baby figurines into baked pies. Whoever picked up the bean or the plastic baby becomes king for a day. Our big bashes, family gatherings and our food orgies are leftovers from Saturnalia, while the only Christian elements Constantine managed to associate to it were only based in iconography.

December 25th? A totally arbitrary date chosen by Constantine. Christmas, like a lot of holidays, is chock-full with political connotations. Arguing how Jesus would feel about it is equal to arguing how George Washington would feel if the Fourth of July was moved to the fifth or the sixth for purely administrative reasons. I don't think he'd care.

Not religeous, our christmas is just a family party, a reason to spend a day or two together.

Christmas is a capitalistic holiday, not christian. But if Jesus did contact[footnote]Valid forms of contact include but are not limited to: appearing in person, telepathy, letters, e-mails, phone calls or text messages. Letters, e-mails, phone calls and text messages may require a further proof of divine identity.[/footnote] me and told me to stop celebrating christmas, as capitalism was against his morals, I would visit a mental hospital and take all the tests. If I was not found insane there, I would probably stop being so antitheistic and start doing all that christian stuff that christians do when they feel like doing christian stuff (and of course stop celebrating x-mas).

Seeing as how I already celebrate it, as an atheist, purely as a gift-giving and spending time with friends and family sort of thing, yea, I think I'd get over it. That, and it isn't even his birthday to begin with.

I dont know if Id call it christmas but id certainly still celebrate. despite all the cynicalism of how they're no religion in religious holidays anymore, or how its too commercial, or how its wrong to celebrate them, I still enjoy the thought of christmas and easter. for my family its a nice sit down dinner we all get together for and spend time togeter at.
