They should completely do away with the XMB and make the PS3 start up to playstation home. I just went there today for the second time since I had the PS3 and its amazing now. Before (like a year and a half ago) it was barren and nothing was available except pool and show lameass ads. Now I found myself with tons to do. First I entered an open theater area where they streamed the season finale of the Tester (sort of a survivor type thing but the challenges are all game related), watching it with other avatars (people) from all over the world on the virtual movie screen.

Then I headed over to the mall where things like new homes, clothes etc.. are sold and they even now have some sort of Sony news thing runing on virtual flatscreens all over the place.

Next I headed over to the gaming lounge where I met up with some interesting gamers (I met a person who made their avatar Ezio and another like Lightning from FFXIII). There's even an option of forming gaming groups and partying up with people, launching the game from inside PS Home and playing online. I joined 2 other guys and a girl and played Black Ops until just now.

Theres also a ton of minigames (free) and stores (stuff in stores not free obviously) all over the place. The biggest complaint about PSN is that people feel isolated, what better way to fix that then to make PS Home be the new XMB.

Oh yes, and for people that don't have online set up they simply will be confined in their apartment place and play their games an stuff from there.

You don't get it. The only way PSN could rival XBL is to charge money for the improvements. Then they lose the price advantage. You can have cheap, or you can have good. Both sides offer one, but not the other.

Not as coldly as Cronq said it, but if you've been to Home lately as you say, then you know how long it takes JUST TO GET TO THE APARTMENT. Not to mention the constant updates and downloads you have to put up with. To get to ANY game you'd spend at LEAST 5 full minutes just prepping to get to the game, and not counting any patches for the GAME you're trying to play and whatnot.

Sorry OP, but this is the worst idea since charging for PSN. Home is great, yeah, it's finally becoming something worthwhile, but even those who like Home know how much of a pain it is sometimes, and to force people to go there when they boot up the PS3? No way. It's the equivalent of having constant Windows updates and being forced to download and install all updates before you can use your computer. Or at least close enough. Sorry, the idea is just...no.

Ugh, I hate home. The people there are creepy, to put it lightly. Though it was fun to make my avatar into a female and see how long it would take someone to flirt with me, quickest one was less than a minute.

Plus, the whole spend real money for fake things never sat well with me either.

Honestly, though I like Home I know that no everyone does. But so far I think PSN has been going on the right track for a while now. Free online multiplayer is perfect to me, that and I haven't had a single issue yet with service. But then they have plus, which is cool for the guys who want to test out betas like the current one for DC Universe Online, along with the 60 minute game previews (Basically like a demo but the full game for an hour.), along with the cheaper downloads for certain games.

They're on the right track already, and no worries I'm sure they'll keep adding to Home too, after all it's still in Beta.

Yes but if you don't want to wander around just put your game/video in and play. It took about 15 seconds to load from place to place. 15 seconds and you are in your apartment where you can have all the functions of the XMB there. I don't see it being a problem.

It isnt? o_O?

I thought it was since it only charged you 20 bucks as a one time cost. That sold me and most of my friends on it. But that might just be us.

I disagree completely. I think the PSN is well on its way to rivaling XBL, I mean we're missing, what? A few extra features no one cares about and Cross Game Chat? While XBL charges, the PSN doesn't so that right there knocks the PSN up a few notches in terms of equalizing the two. Plus the servers for Sony are pretty good, unlike some morons the system updates aren't hardly as constant as people claim and the servers don't go down often, and I'm always on there. So, PSN can definitely approach XBL with or without charging, it just takes a bit more to get there without, but then that ALSO adds to the quality, since you aren't being force to pay.

Edit: Perhaps "features no one cares" was strong, but I can't actually recall what we're missing...

I don't think you see the point people like free stuff if they started charging for the internet a lot of people would just drop use of the internet on the ps3 and just because they can afford to make improvements doesn't mean they will. I think its alright the way it is. Another point is that just because its cheap doesn't mean that its worse then something that you have to pay for

I haven't been to Home since last month, but last I checked there are constant downloads and you still have to load to the Apartment per your words, so still, that's a quite a while longer from loading straight from the XMB.

In my experience PSN is far, far superior to XBL. Adding some mandatory second life minigame to it would detract from the fact that it's easy to work, free and reliable.

Or you could just get SONY to stop faffing about targeting XBL and start targeting a real online system, like Steam.

True cloud gaming, massively faster downloads, much better prices, all kinds of chats and groups and free dedicated servers.

Heck, Steam's menus would translate brilliantly to a XMB-style layout.

The things you are missing are the things people care about. No one gives a rats ass if they can stream netflix.

I thought Home was a pretty cool idea, but me and my friends tried to make a point of logging into home everyday and meeting up in our apartments and hanging out and chatting for a bit before launching a game. Lo and behold though, we kept finding that at any point after 6, Home was...full? After giving it a real chance for an entire month, we had it with how slow it loaded things, how you couldn't launch 90% of the games, and how you couldn't always get on.

Now, I can imagine that nowadays it's better than what it was, but at the same time, that idea you have would be a DISASTER. Just imagine if this little 8 year old wants to log on to play his game. So Home got an update, so it's updating, but after that, he finds he can't even get into Home...which is now his XMB, so he pretty much can't do anything. Oh, or how about that little kids cousin, who doesn't have internet. He has to load some empty, isolated 3D world just so that he can put on some tunes while he cleans his room. Or does it even work? Because Home requires an internet connection?

This idea is terrible, no offence, so don't request it on the playstation blog.

Like what? We already can stream Netflix now, I'm just not aware of what we're missing these days...

If Sony wants PSN to be better than XBL they'd ignore you as PSN is already perfect (IMO).
There's nothing I want that PS3/PSN can't do....

If I wanted silly XBL style always online then I'd get an Xbox, I prefer to be able to start the PS and play a PS game without needing to connect online.

I'm not going to get in an arguement because my lil brother JUST got a PS3 so I have no idea what the online is like for that system but I actually like being able to talk to my friends who are playing other games while I am playing a different game than them
