Let's say that the internet was a country somewhere. Maybe like an island out in the ocean. What would it be like?
Like Earth, except the land marks are shaped differently.

How many people live there?
Billions, but quite a few of them are spam bots and trolls.

What's it like for crime?
Well, lots of illegal and mostly deadly stuff is sold in spam regions across the globe, and there is a high concentration of organised crime in the areas known as Youtube and 4chan.

What does it look like?
As I have said before:

Like Earth, except the land marks are shaped differently.

What's the housing like?
They can be any design you want. As long as it fits within the 500 brick limit.

What's the capital city?
The Internet has two capitals. Facebook and Twitter. Facebook is a bustling city, filled with culture and thriving on the various people, groups, bands and communities that lie there. Twitter is the same except conversations can only ever consist of 150 characters or less.

And more importantly... Where do we Escapists fit in?
We are one of the more civilised countries in the gargantuan continent known as "Forums".

There is but one rule:
You can't copy the internet from Futurama. I saw those episodes too.
I didn't actually think of that until reading that post.

------------------+ pop ups would block you, you would hire a personal bodyguard (virus protection) to stop the terrorists (hackers), youtube, myspace, msn/yahoo would be the leading territories and there'd be quite a bit of barren wasteland (noob stupidity)-----other than that, porn would be like the galaxy where its only a small part of an epicly collosal universe (aliens do porn too?¿?¿?¿?)

---This. Everything is porn related. After all, the internet is made for porn. We'd have dildo skyscrapers and lubricant tube stations. (Imagine grocery stores...)

It would be a dark and horrible place that no sane person would dare set foot into, filled with trolls and porn of all types both ones you would enjoy and ones that would make you vomit uncontrollably for hours and it would eventually be destroyed by the rest of the world and for good reason.

If the internet were real people would (Pardon the Language) Smarten the fuck up and probably act like they have a brain, for fear of actually being in human contact, which can lead to human beatings if they decided to talk trash. Who knows? Maybe there woulden't be as much fanboyism (Haha.. Yeah, right.)

It would be like Amsterdam's redlight district, only less sterile and more "open for business" than most would care for.

That, or what I said in page one.

I think what I said in page one is the more realistic one.
Alright, I'll check it out.

Edit: Dear lord, you have nailed it. 1+ internetz for you.

If the internet did become its own world everyone would turn into there avatars and live in their own cities (websites). If this does happen, I will put together an army of Escapist an other clear minded people and wage war on /b/ and all the sad pathetic children that live in it, and if this doesn't work we just use my original Idea of nuking their asses.

Also, imagine how the government would work........the horror.............

The Internet already is a real place or rather part of one. Everyone behind the key boards and monitors is a real person (except for the chat and spam bots)even if their persona are staged.

They left out Distance.
The Internet is just the Real World's digital scrap book and bulletin board.
As for the sex (ugh, again with people here and their hang-ups about sex), the world is a sexual place. Just keep your eyes open during Springtime. (Springtime in Caligula's Rome must have been a sight to see but early Puritan America would be a better spectacle for denying human sexuality.)

[EDIT]
A lot of people are mention Dave Chapelle. I would like to clarify that I have never seen or heard of this man in my life and this thread was not inspired by him or this skit he did that everyone's talking about.
You never heard of Dave Chapelle?!?!
