2 years. 60 years.
Either way, your life is finite.
Try to leave something worthwhile behind.
But that's what's so fascinating about apocalypses. At least to us. Because we set ourself arbitrary rules to follow. And feel that if we step outside the social norm even on our deathbeds it would leave a bad taste in the mouths of those left behind.

So an utter apocalypses would free us of that because there would be no inhibition. Just people fulfilling their fantasy. Because no one would be left to remember what you did.

It's the ultimate freedom of desire.
I really don't look at it that way. Even in the face of an apocalypse, even if there's nobody else left to witness my transgressions after it's all over, the sad fact of the matter is that I invested what little time I had being an idiot, and that this happenstance occurred is a consequence etched into the very fabric of eternity. What are the cosmic signs of my passing, my greater influence on the cosmos, the evidence that bringing me into existence was supposed to be a good idea? If the answer is, "he did a whole lot of stupid stuff because he figured he could get away with it," then it's not a particularly satisfactory answer.

If we definetely knew, as a planet, the world was ending, I would be hiding in my house away from the mass panic, looting and anarchy. Everybody doing exactly what they want? LAw and order would be totally gone.

watch the entire elfen lied series, play a game, get a lounge chair, go to my back yard, pop open a classic glass bottle of coke, put on some sunglasses and watch the show.

Okay, I dont really believe in 2012. I believe that people will get so scared that we will end ourselves.

So, if December 21st, 2012 is your last day...How will you live it?

I would live it with those I love and those I dont. I would end any hate I had, and replace it with love.
awwww I don't live to see my 16th birthday on the 27th bummer eh ditch school do stuff

I'd find myself a nice looking girl and we'd have sex up until the very end.

LOL

What eternity. You'd be dead.

When it comes to the complete end of civilisation. I'd rather have some fun that sit there and say I kept composure rite until the very end.

I'm not even entirely sure I wouldn't do that if it was just a certainty I'd die. What do I care what the people left on earth think about me after I'm dead... I'm dead. Build a museum to how much of an asshole I was. I wouldn't care... I'd be dead.

What impact do you actually think we as a whole have on the universe. We're so insignificant we could blow ourselfves completely out of existence and it wouldn't matter. There is no greater idea behind your being. Even the greatest of us only impacted our tiny spec of a world.

You just happened. Enjoy it.
Sorry, we're not all nihilists.

I prefer realist. And it's better than self deprocation.
Realist, hmm? Who's reality?

It's funny you're hitting me up for being self-deprecating when you're the one who said life was meaningless, the ultimate self-deprecation.

In any case, my experiences with the Escapist moderators tells that our little exchange has gone on as long as they will tolerate, so revel in whatever beliefs you want; these forums are no platform for whatever this is.

Do tons of random drugs, drink copious amounts of strong alcohol and wander around in a hat and nothing more, then cut my left hand off. If we're all going to die I may as well see how many people I can freak out.

The one we exist in.

Not really. That's just accepting what we are and revelling in it. As opposed to setting up impossible standards for no apparent reason. Then judging those who choose not to follow them. We're only human.

Why?

We're just having a discussion. The mods won't do anything about 2 people having a discussion. It's not like we're hurling insults at each other.
When you say your reality is the one exist in, there's a fundamental problem with that as reflected in the allegory of the cave [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_cave]. You reality will inevitably be different than my reality regardless of the shared reality that may be between them simply by virtue of our different experiences and means of perceiving them. To say that you're right because you're the realist is problematic because the resulting lack of fidelity you have at truly understanding reality to its finest details.

Consequently, that I have a differing perspective of life from yours of existential nihilism [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihilism#Existential_nihilism] is not going to change. I'm choosing not to continue this conversation with you partly recognizing that the fundamental difference of perspective between you and I are so pronounced that nothing you or I could say will change this fact. By virtue of physical limitations, this conversation can't go anywhere but to shouting matches. Your best bet is to try harder to understand how my perspective differs from the one you already have, a task completed only when you can backtrack to my very first comment and understand why I wrote it.

The other part of why I'd prefer not to continue this conversation is because I've inevitably received Escapist moderator wrath in the past whenever I became intellectually entangled in these "innocent" little conversations. It seems my doing so falls under the umbrella of "trolling/harassment" simply because the nature is often too hard to understand by whoever's reading it, and my attempts to explain them usually just dig me deeper into an argument, robbing me of motivation to even try anymore. Besides, this is off-topic. My next probation would likely be a 10-day one, if not permanent. If it's once bitten, twice shy, I'm shy to the power of 16th at this point.
