Prevent Hitler from invading Russia. In other words, force him to finsh what he started in Europe. Then I'd see what would happen from there. I suspect Russia would eventually fall without support and the allies forcing the German army to be split in two, and America would be invaded shortly after. Now that would be intresting.

If that isn't possible, then keep Rome from falling intially. Again, it would eventually collapse, but how long would it have kept going without the fear of horde attacking it.

Stopping Gavrilo Princip from killing Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, and see if that prevents WW 1 and WW 2. (WW 1 was an escelated conflict due to the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and WW 2 is the logical aftermath of WW 1.)

Personally, i would go back to when i just started university and altered some of the choices i made then.

In general historical terms however: I would make people actually realise the potential of the Aeolipile, invented by Heros of Alexander in the 1st century AD, and hopefully trigger off some sort of industrial revolution in the Roman Empire.

I'd like to see what would happen with WW2 if Hitler never came to power. Would it still happen? Would it have a different outcome? How would history play out?

I would prevent the burning of the Library of Alexandria and see how much more advanced we would be today if all that information was not lost.

Seconded.

1)Prevent the shooting of Irish rebels in the early 1900s which lead to the irish war of independance, save Britain from 50 years of terrorist attacks funded by America.

2)Teach the chinese to use glass instead of Laquerwear, allowing to develop sophisticated glass objects such asa lenses, leading to an enlightenment and possibly a much earlier industrial revolution.

3)Kill the Duke of Prussia, preventing Germany, and possibly Italy from ever Unifying, leaving central europe a cluster of tiny principalities, no world wars for sure.

4)Napolean wins the Battles of Trafalgar and Waterloo (he had the best Navy and army in both battles prespectively) and see how the world changes with France as the dominant Empire.

5) Prevent the decline of the Republic of Novgorod and the rise of Kiev, leading to a Russian culture with entrenched democratic values and a hatred of dictatorship.

The 2nd Boer War wouldn't have happened, so there wouldn't have been the formation of the British Expeditionary Force, meaning we would'a (probably) gotten crushed by Germany in WW1.

Just to see what would have happened...

Britain wouldn't have saved France, france would have been conquered and likely capitaultaed, Britain would either have not joined the war, or would have surrendered. We'd have no Tanks, No Bombing aircraft, we'd still use Dreadnoughts.. Trench warfare would still exist, creatign stalemate wars.
and those are just the immediate consequences.

Hm. Stopping the Mongols from destroying Baghdad. Considering that the city of Baghdad was a pretty enlightened place at the time, with science actually being DRIVEN by religion (in that the scholars at the time felt that Islam was incredibly supportive of trying to discover all the answers, so to speak). Seriously, a few scholars had already been theorizing evolution in plants, astronomy was booming (they knew about the heliocentric system, that the Earth was round etc, around the 11th century) and their knowledge of math and medicine was really beginning to flourish.

I'd want to change something that affects me. So I'm going to say that I'd prevent my own birth just to see how the life of my friends and family would be different.

I would make it so that the Abrahamic religions never came into existence.

It would be completely bonkers.

Shoot the bastard who started WWI (the guy who assassinated that other guy).

Remember that cracked article that claim one man set off WWI which set off WWII. Yeah it's not much of an exaggeration.
The members of the 'Black Hand' who killed Franz Ferdinand certainly did not start the First World War. Tensions between Germany and the rest of Europe were already at boiling point, and by the time Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, war was inevitable, so preventing his assassination would, in the long run, have very little effect on anything.

Kill a butterfly in Japan.
To test the theory, so to speak.

Honestly though, i would prevent the birth of Lenin and his fellows, the first communists.

The ottoman empire winning the siege of Vienna, what would happen to christian europe? Could the Turks be stopped?
Nah, the Turks were unstoppable during the reign of Suleiman the magnificent, the deciding factor in the siege was that Suleiman was fighting too far from Istanbul, if the Austrians were defeated that day, the rest of Europe would probably have followed.
