If you could do away with 1 gaming genre, what would it be?

None. If you take away a genre you hate, those people playing it will find their way into the genre you love playing:(
Oh god...the last thing i need is a minigame involving Commander Shepard shaking a pop can >_<.
Or some form of shitty soccer variant in my final fantasy! Wait a minute....DAMN YOU BLITZBALL!!!!!!!!!

on a more on topic note, can we get rid of gameplay elements? Cuz if we can, then I'm adding quicktime events to my decision! I've never really seen a quicktime event that i was happy to participate in. Even the more "immersive" ones are generally worse than just watching the god damn scene >_<. I mean, you either succeed and feel no sense of accomplishment for such an easy task, or you fail and get pissed that you're otherwise depth-filled game just got reduced to a memorize or fail/die segment. Yaaaaaaay T_T.

For me I would get rid of turn-based RPG's. Turn based is retarded. Worms is the only game that ever made it good.
Ok, your turn.

EDIT: either that or button mashie fightning games. They're all the same and none are fun.
I would agree with you there, but two of my favorite games ever are turn-based; Pokemon and the aforementioned Worms. I just bought Worms 2: Armageddon on my PS3 and it's fucking awesome.

Anyways, OT: I'd probably do away with the MMORPGer. I think so many people could be so much more productive if WoW and games like it were erased from the world.
I'm not saying that no other gamers waste their lives, but MMORPGers just have this was of sucking hours and hours and hours from someones life like no other game can.
I'm not a man who posts much in his own threads, but you sir have the best avatar I have ever seen.
It's functional AND true!

None. Why would I take things away from people who like them? I sure wouldn't want my Mass Effects or Halos taken away.

Ha yeah it'd have to be turn based rpgs for me aswell.
Then Fallout would suddenly vaporize, then I'd have to turn on my bloody mess trait and rip you apart limb by limb as you shriek horribly and the blood mixes in with thedirtandI laughandgrindyourfaceintothetarmaAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Yeah... I'd go nuts. This is why these topics really are bad ideas.
still better sacrifice a good game and get rid of all the endless waves of shit of turn bades games.

FPS games. The entire genre is becoming stagnant, gameplay is utterly derivative and interchangeable between most FPS games, it ruins potentially good games (see the new XCOM) and is utterly unimmersive for me. Most FPS games that I played in the past few years would have been better off as some other genre, at the very least as TPS. If I could put a ban on one genre it would be the FPS genre, just so some variety comes back into the mainstream gaming.

The Yearly Sports titles.

I don't begrudge some people their desire to play a football, hockey or soccer video game but there's no real need for the yearly update to this shit.

Mainly just because I'm sick of browsing through the used/discount racks hoping to find the one decent game amongst the racks and racks of the past 3 years worth of Fifa world Cup Soccer and Madden Football titles.

- Shovelware (if you can call it a genre)
- (actually existing) sports games
- FPS's (at least until developers start innovating the genre exponentially instead of linearly)

EDIT: Oh wait...just one? Alright...FPS's.

Turn based combat. Come on, which idiot will stand there and willingly let another person hit him.
have you ever played chess?
or checkers?

those games are turn based
and capturing a pawn is technically combat.

with the broadest possible definition of "combat", and "technically"
LOL. Technically you're quite right. And I like chess. What I don't like about turn based video games is the fact your character and the enemy takes turns to hit each other. Just..not very smart. Then again, i'm basing my opinions of turn based RPGs on Battleon.

[sub]that was such a stupid game.[/sub]

FPS's.

I like turn based combat if it's done well and requires you to actually be intuitive and think the strategy through fully, not the mindless HOLD X FOR ATTACK AND WIPE FLOOR WITH EVERYTHING.

FPS's just because it'd be nice to see people try to use their imagination more then COD7012 and Halo4251

Edit:
Since people can't read, I'd preferably just end all sequels period. Finish the damn game and release it at once (Part 1, Part 2, etc should not be separate games).

Also would it kill you to call it something else (at RPGs and JRPGs like FF....)
Then if one game takes 2/3 years to make, if producers waited until they have all of the primary game and sequels made once, the game would last 36 hours; and it would last 2/3 years or more in production.

BUT, don't release the game with DLc's planned prior to the release date, because in this case, they should make the DLC and then release the game. I'm talking to games that have DLC's that release 2 days after the game is done. If they already have the content, join it with the game. though it's not a genre, iI would end these types of DLC's.

Hmm, Sports games, as I never understood why people would buy a game like Madden, instead of just playing football for real. One arguement is that the person in question isnt fit to play Football, my response would be a football player tackling his sorry ass... cause I still dont give a damn.

That or the Generic Dull FPS, not the whole genre, just the shitty ones, like COD.
I like games like Madden so I can play more as a coach. I like managing the roster, acquiring/scouting/drafting players etc. Sadly they've taken a lot of the features I've liked out like creating your own plays and Owner Mode. And the argument of not being fit is invalid for me, because I played 5 years and had to quit because of my migraines, haha.

I never really enjoyed the JRPGs I've played, but I'm not sure I'd ever go as far as eliminating a genre.

Okay, maybe games like Leisure Suit Larry, or bad movie tie in games if that can be considered one.

Bioshock and Half-Life.
You cannot possibly tell me that the combat in those games was thoughtless and not requiring of strategic thinking without lying out your arse. No offense, you're just ignoring some incredible examples that break your FPS mold.

Sports... if you wanna play the sport go outside and do it! playing it on a console or PC will not cut your calories.
