If you could do away with 1 gaming genre, what would it be?

FPS's just because it'd be nice to see people try to use their imagination more then COD7012 and Halo4251
You say that as if first person shooters have the monopoly on chronic sequelitis.

Less boring sports games, more fun turn-based RPGs. Preferably Fallout games.

I'd get rid of FPS's, just to piss EVERYONE off...

Oh, and it might make the gaming scene a little bit less homogenous...

Hard to say. The first thing on my mind would be Point & Clicks. Then again, Monkey Island and Sam & Max are pretty populour and might be funny.

Maybe Rail shooters. What's a 'rail shooter', you ask? It's where you don't explore, you just get from one position, shoot everything and then move on to the next.

Sports games. And everyone just needs to leave mah JRPGs alone. I'm not big on the FPS genre but I pretty much leave it alone (except when an outstanding example like Bioshock comes along).

He only allowed me one. If I had unlimited, I'd just end all sequels period.

I'd say turn-based but FF is kinda good, I'd say racing but then there would be no driving in games at all, so I'ma gonna go with RTS.

Sports. I'd say racing too, but there are some damn good racers like Mario Kart or Burnout.

Also, I shed a tear for all the people saying turn based games. While they are slow most of the time, some times they hit that spot where you feel like gaming, but just need to take it easy. On the other hand, I'm picturing Final Fantasy Tactics, Fallout/2, and Civilization when some one says "turn based games." Turn based combat systems in JRPGs certainly can go though. Rarely are you ever weak enough against the common horde that mashing the "select attack" button doesn't instantly win the battle. I've fallen asleep while playing those games.

FPSs, because I'm completely fed up with them. I want them to all go away and let me role-play/explore interesting locations/solve puzzles/not shoot ANOTHER BLOODY RIFLE at ANOTHER BLOODY SOLDIER. I haven't bought an FPS in years, and just wish they'd go away and devs would take risks in different genres.

I agree with you on JRPGs and FPS, in a sense. The JRPG scene is stale But there are the true gems that can shine through most of the crap, just like FPS. For all the CODs and other stale war FPS (which, BTW, has anyone else noticed that alot of the bad FPS games are modern-day War shooters? Something to consider?), theres at least one good FPS like Bioshock. I think what needs to be done for FPSs is to drop the Reality wieghts, and go crazy. And for JRPGs, they need to try and re-invent themselves, cause the normal turn-based sword and dash is getting boring. One of the reasons I loved Resonance of Fate, its unique and new, with a combat design that, as far as I know, no body else even attempted...

For me I would get rid of turn-based RPG's. Turn based is retarded. Worms is the only game that ever made it good.
Ok, your turn.

Ha yeah it'd have to be turn based rpgs for me aswell.
Then Fallout would suddenly vaporize, then I'd have to turn on my bloody mess trait and rip you apart limb by limb as you shriek horribly and the blood mixes in with thedirtandI laughandgrindyourfaceintothetarmaAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Yeah... I'd go nuts. This is why these topics really are bad ideas.

I just don't get threads like this. Why would anyone feel the need to do away with some other genre, anyway?

Just seems like a thread like this is doomed to negativity.

Can't say I really have one genre that I'd totally want to wipe out the existence of. There are two genres, however, that wouldn't impact me in the least if they did disappear and those would be realistic driving games/simulators (like Gran Turismo/Forza) and RTS games.

FPS. Oh please let FPS die, the good games have all gone and now we are left with shit franchises focused upon online play and full of bitchy toddlers.
