If you could do away with 1 gaming genre, what would it be?

Well, I'd get rid of the unintellegent FPS's, and the badly designed turn based RPG ( Paper Mario, Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core, and Kotor had the right idea)

Sports games

Frankly some great games have been turn based RPGs but I have NEVER liked a sport game.
They can leave first.

First Person Shooters
If they would stop making those we might see some real games now and again.
and while we're at it lets wipe Gears of War off the face of the Earth
then turn Grand Theft Auto 4 in to Grand Theft Auto Vice City 2

fuck brown, and fuck gray

I want some awesome colorful fun like Jak and Daxter or Viewtiful Joe
and if you don't like colors then God of War, or Silent Hill

but please enough with the brown and gray cover basses shooting. it's boring.

have you ever played chess?
or checkers?

those games are turn based
and capturing a pawn is technically combat.

with the broadest possible definition of "combat", and "technically"

None of them, because lots of people enjoy a wide variety of games. I have actaully never found a genre that has totally alienated me from it. I have managed to find a gem within every game type, and the innovation that can be uncovered if you're willing to open your mind is staggering. If you really think a genre should stop existing, then you are incredibly selfish. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean others don't, and remember, many people hate your preferred genres as well.

Basically everything has its place in this world, and that includes the things you hate.

I don't understand why nobody likes turn based RPG's it adds an element of strategy unlike games like Halo or Call of Duty. So with that said I would get rid of Rail Shooters.

While I really don't like 85% of turn-based RPGS and hate another 14%, I wouldn't get rid of the genera.

But I would get rid of sports games. They bring absolutely nothing to the market, and on top of that, they really suck. Only a sports nerd would find them enjoyable.

I don't think you understand the concept of turn based combat.

It's like slowed down combat so you can use strategy if necessary and watch every move play out instead of a battle happening too fast to either plan or watch.
"A turn-based strategy (TBS) game is a strategy game (usually some type of wargame, especially a strategic-level wargame) where players take turns when playing."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn-based_strategy
It seems to me like you are saying "that since players take turns it isn't like real time combat". It is the same thing only slowed down. In real time combat there is usually a turn based system at play under the hood. You think your blows in Dragon Age are in real time? No.

Turn based combat gives you more control by giving you more time to think and act. Even in button mashing real time combat games, there is a cool down period and that is your turn based equivalent.
Ah, but in RTSs there is a reason why you take turns to attack. It's because you have a cool-down period. Yes, my blows in DA are in real time because no human can repeatedly smash his sword into an enemy without delay.
In turn based combat, eg. Pokemon, Battleon, both your character and the enemy stand there like idiots taking turns to hit each other. What i'm saying is that THIS is retarded.

Me? A Halo fanboy? Surely you jest. I hate Halo. With a fiery passion. Hell, I called Halo and all of its bastard progeny insipid not one post ago.

If you're looking for FPSes that don't suck balls(I.E. ones I am a 'fanboy' over), try Half-Life 2 and BioShock.

Perhaps not a genre, but I'd do away with turn-based combat.

As a genre, I would say "realistic" action-war games (i.e. Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, etc.).
