If you could feel pain would you still play?

Yes but only in say singleplayer games, on 100% and I'd probably play less often. But I think definitely it would make for at least a more memorable experience, like that bit at the end of COD5 when you stagger to plant the flag as your bleeding out.

Dude, you're way behind. Mario Party was destroying children's palms way back in 1998. You could even argue for twisted ankles on the Power Pad in 1986.

If I wanted to experience pain like game characters do, I'd just go into the jungle, find a nest of bullet ants, and whenever I think about what it would be like to feel that pain I'd get them to sting me. There's a reason the little bastards are called bullet ants.

That seems like an immensely dumb idea. You play games to relax, not hurt yourself.
Although I suppose it's a safer way for sadomasochists to live out their fantasies.

Well, believe it or not, force-feedback is one of the things I'm looking forward to (for several reasons, bow-chicka-bow-wow).

I think the biggest difference this would cause would be in how people play. As in, taking cover and being more careful instead of charging straight in.
As long as you have multiple lives, you will have dimwits charging in. Even with pain feedback, I'm sure you'd get idiots who would run back out there. I mean, seriously, have you seen some of the stunts people do on Youtube?

Interestingly enough someone attempted to build a product like this for the PS2. I still have it lying around, basically it was a vest with lots of little motors that would hit you with a mild impact. I think though if you felt actual impacts I'd be hesitate to play unless it was a game I'd be good at like a racing title, and only with a full steering wheel and forcefeedback.

Heck no.

It would kill Plants vs. Zombies for me. My back and knees would be destroyed the amount I have to run around, bend over and crawl around my garden to keep my plants happy and fighting.
And what if I screw up? Even if the pain's 80% less, my brain's just been eaten, I'm still 20% dead.

Even with the pain that small...No. It might make the game more realistic but i wouldnt want to feel the pain that some of the game charachter needs to endure.

Hmm...

If its non-physical (so its basically all in your head), and you dont ACTUALLY get harmed, then yeah sure. That way i can turn off the machine if the pain gets too bad. Next time the machine is turned on though the pain should either reset, or bit by bit go through your injuries to build back up to the pain you were in (rather then it hitting you full on).

If it can actually be made physical, and too much pain, then no because that would just be an extreme way to play a game.

It'd be nice having feeling some sort of sensation when you feel pain, like feeling a bit fuzzy when you get stabbed. Actual pain would be horrible though.

Maybe if a bullet where like the equivalent to a weak pellet gun. Because think about how many times you get shot in the average game of halo. Anything more than a very slight amount of pain would start to really fucking hurt after a while and it wouldn't even be fun at that point.

First thought: What is wrong with you?!?
Second thought: If it wasn't the real pain of getting shot, but just a little pinch where you were hit, it could be okay. But I wouldn't play it myself.
