Actually, you would probably die grimacing screaming from the excruciating, intolerable pain. Hopefully death would be short, unless you happened to roll a Gyarados with a penchant for torturing people. In which case, you're screwed.
EDIT: Screaming works better there.
I meant you'd be laughing up until the moment where you can be considered utterly, utterly fucked. The moment Magikarp glows white and you know you can't run far enough away in time.

Also, there's no guarantee that the weak, cute ones aren't sentient. incapable of communicating with humans? Sure. But they're definitely much more intelligent than their real-world equivalents. "Often lost in thought" is an a personality descriptor in the game.
And for the record, that groudon was trained to 100, and my espeon was 80. Granted, she scored a critical hit and the trainer in question could have completely ignored his Special Attack or something, but it's still possible.
... and Darkrai would probably just float around my area destroying people's psyches.
... Okay, you got me there. That made me laugh.
Who knows how I'd befriend them? That wasn't part of the thread. Sure, Scizor, Darkrai and Tyranitar would be easier than Dialga and Giratina, but that can go for most Pokés. I'm sure I can find common ground, even if it's just me asking questions about everything since the beginning of time.
I suppose sentient isn't the right word. The point is, the weaker Pokémon tend to be little more than actual animals. Sure, they can understand humans better than their real-world counterparts, but they couldn't offer actual understanding and communication like Metagross or any of the other intelligent/psychic/telepathy Pokémon. If I wanted a rodent, I could go buy one. If I wanted a companion, I can get a cat or dog. If I was able to get a Pokémon, I'd get something that is totally incredible.
Fighting isn't my main concern - I tend to use Pokémon that I think are cool, with the exception of Darkrai, who, while moderately cool, is mostly just to help capture Legendaries. Dark Void + Bad Dreams + speed. Useful stuff.
That Groudon must've been awful in the special defence then, because to One-Hit a higher-level Legendary with just a critical hit and no super effective is ridiculous.
And yes, a real-world Darkrai would be amusing to watch.
