Canada loses the Stanley Cup and invade America?
or Texas secedes from the U.S. and a civil war breaks out?

or...lol okay enough jokes. a story I'd truly be tied to would be involving not oil...but sweet tea
take away that...and there will be blood

As in battle school Zero-g man on man combat? A game where you start of as a soldier and slowly work your way up to a Toon Leader then a Commander and each step gives you more tactical command over your fellow soldiers? THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

My FPS would be a parody of the "super soldier" formula, in which the main character is a genetically engineered dog trying to escape from a research laboratory. He would have mounted turrets on his back that he controls with his brain. Oh, and he can talk.
If he has a wise-cracking monkey sidekick you have me sold

What I really want is a WW2 game where you play it in a Nazi's perspective. That'd be a breath of fresh air for a theme that is done to death.

Yep, that pretty much sums up the entirety of the internet. I'm so glad you figured it out.
Umm ok I'm gonna have to show restraint here so I don't get banned, your acting very unlikeably,I'm not sure you realise what i'm getting at here, you where speaking like an idiot I told you so, and then I fell into your trap. Turns out you where purposely being an idiot and then being a Dic... unlikeable person, how does that work?
Basically someone complained about America always being in war games, so this guy took what the first guy said, word for word, and switched the words America and Australia around in a effort to show that you can make anything sound bad if you phrase it right. Not sure how it was really a trap but I get the basic Idea

You are an American journalist looking for some pulitzer prize material. You decide to do a story on a civil war going down in South Africa. You are on your way when your plane gets shot down by the ruling power in said country. You are captured and thought to be a spy sent by the resistance fighters. You are tortured for a while (which could serve as a tutorial level) when suddenly the actual resistance shows up to rescue their comrades and break everyone out of the prison/gulag. You are given a gun and run out along with the others. You get caught up in the fight and become experienced in the art of war. Eventually you stage a coup and put the resistance in power. You are betrayed and left for dead. You then realize that the Resistance is worse. You join up with the surviving members of the original party and retake the country. In the end you get your story and you realize that war really doesn't change anything. The original party is back in power and the only difference is a few more filled graves. The End.

I've been throwing this idea around and I intended to propose it when I got a job as a game designer after college. What do you guys think?

would you try to be original and come up with something new (Do explain) or would you just go with the military/space marine vibe? How would you make those cliche'd styles seem new story wise? Gimme awesome twists!
Your main character is sent to a planet that was colonized, but criminals took it over (never explained), and now you are sent in because you have a pair of massive ball-bearings instead of testicles with a hyper-deminsinal arsenal to kill every ************ on the planet. Would also have four player local and online co-op.

My idea is basically "fuck the story, nowbody really cares as long as there is a gun that shoots rockets drills and pleanty of nut-shots..." Basically Bulletstorm...

What I've been thinking of as a game idea is a sick long magic train that can ride off-rails, crushing trough major cities and countrysides troughout the game. You've just managed to get on and you don't know much but that there's something on the front.

It would give the vibe of the place being haunted, it's MASSIVE, so big it could be considered a little city, so there's plenty to explore. It's not just the traditional little box carts that are mounted on either, first you fight pretty regular military guys that are all over the place but realise there are some kind of supernatural beings on as well... Heavy Bioshock vibe there really.

I love trains.

Honestly it wasn't a trap, the only reply I thought I'd get where from people who are trolling.

The magic masquerade is broken. Elves, hobbits and dwarfs exists amongst the populous and have been revealed. Their magic and their technology is now shared with us. But only in England.
America, in a fit of Jealousy,Takes all their weapons and decide that maybe the world would be better under their own control. First starting with Germany who want nothing to do with this conflict but are the chewtoys in this scenario
Thus it comes down to England to go up against them.
By trying to take over the world first.

Complicating things is Japan who have released information on mecha piloted by youkai, Russia where http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSd-SPOR5LU [this] happens,China mastering the art of cloning and creating a propaganda spouting army and Napolean coming back as a half zombie half cyborg leading France who have gotten tired of cowardly arrogant frenchies jokes.

You take on the perspective of 3 people over 3 campaigns.
-A patriotic badass part bald eagle super soldier for the American campaign who uses the latest in high tech weaponry like arm cannons but melees using his fists and his boots backed by an army who want to cause as much shit blowing up as possible. He will have the highest amount of health, and has airstrikes to back him up and focuses more on one man army style gameplay

-A tea sipping half elf wizard gentlemen sporting a generals moustache who prefers using weapons backed by an array of magic powers and wields a rapier and is backed by an army of artillery and magic users who also want to cause as much damage as possible albeit in a more controller but still satisfying way. Also, their army is lead by the resurrected King Arthur.
He will have less health but is backed up by an arsenal of magic and having technological dwarf demolition team, stealthy hobbit spies(ala james bond) and elf and human soldiers so has a higher focus on teamwork

-And finally a clone made by Germany who also has some vague prophecy surrounding him being the balance being magic and machine and having some magic powers because of this prophecy. He will focus on stealth guerrilla warfare and causing as much destruction while playing both sides. He has in between health

The campaigns are all self contained so the game will have 3 different endings, 1 for each campaign

It's going to be OTT and there'll be a huge variety of creative weapons with the sole purpose(however impractical) of causing as much destruction as possible. Infinite arsenal on single player, 6 weapon capacity on multi

Wow that was long and I am tired and shouldn't be operating a keyboard

Another idea:

A RPG/shooter hybrid. You are a convicted felon in the future, accused of a crime (not detailed) and sentanced to 2000 years. Instead of putting you into prison, they instead send you to a prison planet to live out your sentance. you are modified with nueral device that copies all you bodily information (aka, stats, abilities, skills and such), and if you die, they will respawn you, making it so you have to live you whole 2000 years. But there is a catch, if you attempt to escape from the planets orbit, and succeed, your sentance is voided, and you are free to go. So the end game itself will involve actually attempting to escape, or rest in the knowledge that you will remain here for 2000 years, and get to work killing shit. If you do attempt, you can either succeed which ends the game (and I mean ENDS, as in PERIOD! no playing after, start a new character), or you fail, in which case, your character is cyro-tortured (cyrogenically frozen, but you brain is kept functional, so you are aware) for half your sentance...) than you are executed.

It would best be a kind of Single-player MMO hybrid, where you can play it alone, or link up to the community, and see other players also. Instead of gaining levels and expeirence, you just get money, which you can spend on increasing you abilities, modifing yourself with either genetics (aka, splicing like in Bioshock, making you kinda like a magic user), cybernetics (which will be limited at 90% total augmentation, so the more augmented you are, the less human you become), or nanotechonology (the least evasive, but the most expensive). Yopu could also spend that money on training to up your skills, buying new armor or equipment, and other such things.

In place of quests, there are jobs that pay money. These are not all like the, "'Our town is going to be attacked by trolls, you are our only hope' says the mayor to 'the chosen one' player #8,967,168".

Death will be handled, like already mentioned, by having your character die, and be respawned. But if you do die, all the gear on you will be left to be looted by others. Though, there wont be legendary items thatr will be taken, most of the legendary items will most likely be heavily modded weapons and armor the player can make.

The weapons will have a large selction, and will also feature a set-up kinda like a cross between Blacklight: Tango Down and Army of Two: 40 days; you have a few different weapons types, like pistol, rifle, and shotgun, but tons of different pieces to take and combine to make all kinds of different weapons, like a rifle could be made into a belt-fed sniper with a undermount shotgun, or a pistol could be converted into a SMG with the right parts. Armor likewise will be different pieces and layers of cloth, leather, and metal, with cloth giving the most freedom of movement (besides being completely naked) and metal or what ever is higher giving the most protection from damage.

Your character would be very customizable, along the lines of the new EVE avatar thing. There would be 5 body archetypes, Light (which makes your character fast and small, allowing them to fit into vents and hidding places, but take very little damage) normal (the even build), muscualur (strong and powerful, but less graceful and slower), Big (overwight, offers some stregth, and added damage absorbtion, but slowest and some stat punishers), and "sexy" (basically a sexualized form which has some similur stats to normal body type, but with added alur to NPC and such). Also, as it would not take long for someone to do it (come on... its the internet) these avatars would can be fully nude, and automically correct. (this will most likely get FOX in an uproar, but this game is going to be at least M rated, and an MMO with monthly, though very, very cheap, fees.

It would most likely be a PC exclusive, will feature a single player part, which is basically a like the main MMO part, but playable even without a membership (just alot of the actual fun will be gained from the interaction with other players.)

You are the incarnation of Kali, the laws of death have been broken and the walking dead roam the land. You must kill zombies and to regain heath you must feast on their flesh. To regain mystical power your must gather souls and send them on their way to rebirth. You've a host of powers at your command as well as weapons.

Obviously this would be an Indian(as in the country) themed game.

Earth is on the verge of collapse war has not only ravaged resources, cities and every other important aspect of normal life, but the overuse of biochemical weapons has had an adverse effect on the victims, turning them into the flesh eating un-dead, weaponry is power in this day an age and those who have acquired said power are using it to destroy the competition, meanwhile pockets of survivors who simply want peace have to fight for their lives be it from blazing marine gunfire, shell-shock bombardments or even the rotting jaws of the un-dead, while this conflict is happening, a race of aliens orbiting the decayed earth plan to wipe the rest of the human race, seeing their hunger for more advanced weaponry and constant lust for war a threat to their own kind, unaware of the rampaging hordes of un-dead this ship of "intelligent" life forms, become fatigued and over powerred by the sheer force and undying vilagence of the zombies, now with a hybrid breed of alien zombie survivability is fucking nil.

who will you play as, marine, survivor, alien or undead

(think of it as a fallout/oblivion shooter :D)

A stealth game where a rogue journalist investigates the alliance of criminal families and companies who plot to take over her city while police and government are crippled by underfunding. After witnessing a close friend and colleague on the same story die in an obviously arranged accident that no cop wants to touch, she's quit honest journalism and turned to independent espionage.

With only a mini camcorder, flash memory cards, cheap lock picks, a pocket knife, a suppressed pistol, and her own quiet and inconspicuous nature, she's breaking into offices, copying documents, eavesdropping on meetings, recording mob enforcement and, if possible, picking off the enforcers in the act.

After a successful mission, she dumps her load of evidence straight to the Internet. The player can browse some virtual news and video sites with the incriminating materials and stories thereof. Viewers' ratings and comments depend on her in-mission conduct, and in turn hint at the degree of opposition she'll face in the future. Saving hostages and sparing non-threatening enemies may convince some fellas to draft their resignations, while a carefree murder spree is the surest way to swell their ranks.

A psychological shooter where the world is filled with abstract images: Elephants roaming in fields and vast office blocks among Dali like wastelands. As you play the game includes tips hinting that every abstraction has a different significance to your character and you must discover who you are and slowly break back into reality(or go into madness) the twist being that the reality is a worse place for your character. Adding a good difficulty curve and interesting experience.

An open world FPS, similar to Far Cry 2 only A: Better and B: in a large world, with the parkourness of Mirrors Edge, and the intense yet authentic combat of Medal of Honour. Problem is that it would have to be PC only, since it would require far too many buttons than a console controller could do, even with the differences between tap and hold.

As for the story....an immersive future setting similar to Dues Ex, or Ghost in the Shell.

you play a solder in a expeditionary force that is going behind enemy lines to try to win a war agests an alien race. the difference is that there is no humans, and every ship, and solders is controlled by A.I. you play a are a fragment of an A.I. that controls a controls a robot solder. if you die, you mind is transferred in to another body and teleported in to battle

the aliens are non humanoid and humans/A.I. still don't know how most of there tech works. the aliens are in the same shoes. this mean you can pick up a use alien weapons because you don't know how they work or where the trigger is. you can bring Alien tech back and there a chance that they could figer out hot it works, or get a weapons upgrade out of it.

the gun you have is made out of smart matter, and can be configure in to many different guns.
I also picture that both sides use energy weapons, and projectile weapons.

you can drive tanks, jeep, and operates guns on a Bolo super tanks.

you can teleport you self but you have a limited range. that could make a firefight interesting.

I would attempt to create a more atmospheric, horror-themed WWI or WWII-shooter set in the trenches and such. The game wouldn't focus on having contant gunfire or bombs, but rather on being silent and discomforting, making the environments seem unfamiliar to player.
The player would essentially be completely alone most of the time, and while access to guns and such is provided, there wouldn't always be use for them, kind of like in the Silent Hill games. I'd try to take advantage of a darker colour scheme, kind of like the black/white seen in Limbo.

The story would go like this:

The player character wakes up in a seemingly abandoned camp in the WWII-trenches. His entire squadron is gone, as well as the enemy soldiers, and the entire place has seemingly gone quiet and foggy. Without any clear goal, the player must try to find out what happened to him and his company, searching the seemingly endless trenches and further across bizarrely deformed landscapes.
Soon, he discovers that he is not alone, and is chased by creatures that don't seem to have any real form or shape, and cannot be killed by regular force.

The story would essentially focus on the player character's company who have met an unknown fate and told with very little narration, if any at all.
While the monsters in the game are more or less invincible in their non-structured forms, the player will slowly be able to defeat them as he finds out more about what happened to the squadron.
There would be gunplay, but outside of the fights with fully rendered monsters, gunshots will only slow enemies down. Conserving ammunition would be very important, and used as an attempt to make the game feel more challenging. Stealth could also be an option.

That's more or less the basic setup.

I'd like to see a shooter game where you play as a child. Like the story of a young boy around 14 or so who's family is killed and the child is taken and being put to work as a child soldier in a violent war going on between parts of the poor country you live in.

The game begins at the time of your kidnapping and get taken into a squad of other kidnapped children being put to military work. At first gun handling in the game is near impossible (high recoil, slow reloading, poor aim, etc.), but as you progress you slowly begin to improve your abilities.

By the time you're 17 you are able-bodied enough to escape. You and the few of your remaining friends you made along the way of this story find the right time to run away and flee to another country where it is safe, with others chasing you down.

Now I know the idea of children involved in warfare is probably a taboo theme, but it would most certainly be original and interesting.
