Recently ive been coming across alot of people saying things like "If you havent played this game you arent a gamer" or "If you havnt seen this movie you suck" and stuff like that when they just saw it the first time themself maybe a day or two ago

Anyway, whats your opinion on people doing stuff like this?

Completely ignorant. These are probably the same people who think popular = quality, when really its pretty much the opposite.

These are not the most empathetic people, as they seem to not be able to comprehend a reality other than their own. Gamers are people that play games, if you've never touched a Nintendo Franchise in your life then you can still be a gamer (and might even be better off for it). Likewise for whatever else people might say this about (Halo? Final Fantasy?). Just because certain things have mass appeal does not make them the end all and be all of a genre, and people as ignorant as that scare me.

which console war? there been like three with increasing viciousness each. i've only participated in the latest one, and even mostly i just make snide comments to any xbox or wii fanboy. i still dislike ps3 fanboys but i just thumb them down whenever possible

There's nothing worse than a snob. It's why I usually hate talking about my hobbies. I mention I love comics, music, or games, and everyone's got some holier than though attitude they feel they need to shove down my face because they've read some dumbass review online about something or head some "expert" opinion. I usually counteract there stupidity with actual knowledge on the subject.

Besides, you can find a flaw in any game, or anything for that matter. If someone says "You're not a ____ because you never did ______", just point out all the things that were wrong with it.

I don't see this pop up that much in games because there are very few games that apply to everyone and a lot of really good games are highly category specific.

You've never been to the GameSpot forums where if you 'haven't played Halo or Gears of War, you're a fag'. It's sad but some people actually say that.

OT: Yeah I don't get that at all xD, you can't call someone a gamer if they've played a certain game. There are loads of different types of games, chances are there are gamers that have never played any of the "classics", but still count ^^

Although, I could say that if you've never played any game then you're not a gamer ;D

People that say things like that are generally bluffers. They may watch a film and say "you haven't seen x? It's great" without understanding why. Or they secretly know you haven't seen it and they're trying to make themselves look/FEEL better than you.

Sometimes I've found myself wondering if I am REALLY as into games as I think.
Ya see, I live with this dude who is always always playing something or another, either new or old or big release or little known... Where as I often find myself thinking "hmm, I could play -insert game-, but I'll just mash out with a movie and go to sleep"

Then I realise said friend doesn't go out and doesn't work. I work 50+hours a week and like going out to the pub and stuff. I don't play everything that hits the shelves and I don't have time to play through a game in 2 days, this doesn't make me less of a gamer, this just makes me enjoy the time I DO spend playing games and the particular game I choose, all that much more.

Strictly speaking this would have been a totally legitimate comment when there was only one game in existance, since having not played it would be you could not call yourself a gamer. Now there has to be at least four, maybe five games in existance. So it's just a silly thing to say.

For example, saying 'If you haven't played Halo 3 you can't call yourself a gamer' to someone who has perhaps mastered the martial art of Frogger, Tetris, Jump Man, Pac-Man, [more games here] or even Barbie's Horse Adventure is fairly redundant as they are quite clearly a gamer.
