Attention, today was the anniversary of one of the first ever Viking attacks on record. The attack was on Landisfarne in June 793. I would like to think it was today since 1) I couldn't find a date, and 2) I'm making this thread today...so yeah.

...If I was a Viking I would pillage everything and go on a killing spree with my battle axe. I love battle axes.

Also, if you find the correct day and year of this attack or can discredit this as the first ever attack, please post it so I can correct myself. But, still answer the question on what you would do if you lived during these times.

You realize you can be anywhere on earth, right? For example, in the Byzantine Empire.

Vikings? I live in a landlocked country, no chance to come here with their battleships. I'd laugh at them!

EDIT: I maybe should add "a landlocked country full of Alps and other mountains to escape to if they ever should get here"

Yes this but if I had been Viking

Except the axe bit I'd probably go Skarin's route and have a sword and an axe.

...Battleships? Do you know what the Vikings were? They could travel up rivers in their ships. They went into Russia even.

I could but I like to keep things historically accurate.
Ok? That doesn't make much sense, but if it floats your boat...

I would have been killed long before reaching adulthood due to disease or violent death and would have been forgotten by my contemporaries before lunch.

wow, hahaha, thats a pretty accurate statement... least if you visit the city of York it seems to be. Museum employee's dressed up as Vikings :)
Yorkshire young-man here too :D

I don't know, i'd probably have been forced to be one of those kids who hid in the woods as they watched their village destroyed, hoping that the vikings didn't notice us. Then i could have an awesome story about training for revenge, becoming strong and powerful and then ending up getting killed by a large group of vikings because life isn't like a Movie... or a video game.
plus, i'd probably be a peasent, hand-mixing animal dung into fertilizer and spreading it on some Lord's field in order to earn my earthy turnip and slice of meat for the week. so actually, living in the viking times isn't my cup of tea really.

How come you people on the British isles seem way more obsessed with vikings than us Scandinavians? xD

Sorry, I get like that when people use viking as a noun, won't happen again.
As for what I'd do, Bernard Cornwell can probably tell you better than me, the Saxon's Chronicles show everything about that time-period in Britain that you'd have to do if you didn't want to get murdered.
