Pretty much every game these days has a multitude of difficulty settings, but a lot of people seem to really abhore playing it on easier settings for various reasons. How do you feel about playing on easier settings, and why?

Imo, It completely depends on the game in question, but in general, yes, I do sometimes feel a bit cringey for putting the difficulty down. Case in point: I had the difficulty slider in Oblivion about a centimeter and a half to the right (harder), but...Recently, I've had to turn it down to get anywhere. Argh.

So, opinions and anecdotes, guys?

No, but i only play the lower difficult once I beat it on a higher one to get achievements.

I play on normal versus easy whenever there is the option to. Then I'll turn the game's difficulty up once I've done a playthrough.

EASY MODO?

Yeah I really cant play a game on easy, since it throws all tactical choices and tense gameplay out the window in favour of moving from point to point obliterating everything with no effort at all. I can understand kids, old people, non-gamers ect use easy, but anybody who is capable of a harder difficulty and plays on easy is cutting their experience of the game significantly.

I naturally prefer difficult, arcade style games (Trials, Super meat boy, Touhou, ect) since I have a great frustration threshold, and finally completing a level you've died dozens of times on is a feeling that you can't get with a lot of games.

NO?
.
If it's a game I'm familiar with, like the various CoD games I'd play it on a hard difficulty, I'd do the same with other games. Do you know why? Because if I play it at Easy difficulty it would take me five hours to finish. FIVE.
.
When it's an open world adventure game I'd usually play it at medium. If I don't have any time at the moment due to exams and the like I'd play it at Easy and only if the game was good I'd switch to Medium or play it again with Medium difficuly.

I usually go through on the first time on the hardest, and then once I've beaten it and I want to play it again, I'll play on the easiest difficulty.

I play on whichever difficulty I find most enjoyable. Sometimes Harcore, sometimes Beginner, sometimes somewhere in between. Really all depends on the type of game or number of playthroughs.

Nope, not at all

I enjoy games like Mass Effect 2, but I die very easily. Even on easy. So yeah, no shame about playing on the lowest setting.

I ussaly don't touch Easy with a ten foot stick unless the game rapes my backside savagely on any setting above. (Yes Im looking at you, Touhou!)

I generally play for the challange, not to have my enemies bow down and expose their necks for my sword.

I almost never play on the easiest setting, because it feels like I'm cheating. I don't feel ashamed, but to me it's like breaking the rules. And if I'm not playing by the rules, why bother playing at all?

There's some games I've started on easy, like Contra 4, but at least that game punishes you for being a whimp. After you beat the third to last level, the game basically tells you to grow some balls and then kicks you back to the main menu.

Wow, that's funny, I just played Oblivion for the first time last week and I had the same problem :/

I breezed through a good amount of the game a bit above average difficulty and couldn't get past a certain part so I turned the difficulty down. I felt like I was cheating for the rest of the game.

Wow not enough try hards in this thread, Easy/Normal mode is for pussies most of the time, Ramp it up to Hard/Extreme and then we'll talk.

If there is a normal option, then I will do my first play through on that. If I replay a game, then I will move up on the difficulty. Anyways, if i was to play on easy, I certainly wouldn't feel ashamed of myself.

Depending on the game, I usually start lower, and work my way up.

For FPS's I start on medium, not even bothering with easy. But with RTS's and the like, I start on easy. Because I've had a long history of getting my ass kicked because I didn't know what to do.
